There's a virtual cornucopia of information on finding cheap DVD's on the 'net.
First, check out The DVD Talk Forums for listings of cheap DVD's everywhere. My favorite is the thread on Columbia House, and how to purchase 7 DVD's from them for less than $10 each.
Then there's another personal favorite, deepdiscountdvd.com which routinely has the best prices on the 'net - and they challenge you to find cheaper prices, and they'll beat them.
For other bargains, I check TechBargains.Com several times a day. Often they'll have insane bargains you could easily miss. Like the two Handspring Visors I picked up - for free after rebate, I might add - because they were posted on this site.

One word: don't. 40,000 people aren't going to care about open souce. Period. Of course, some of them are, and that's great. Stick to popular tactics, and ONCE YOU'RE VOTED INTO OFFICE start making the changes from within.
There are versions available that you don't need Wine for. I've got a copy somewhere, but I don't type documents that often, and I'm sure it's been archived.
I live in Vermont, so there is a per-minute charge on all phone calls, even local ones, to a monthly cap. The cap is different areas, but for here in Brattleboro, VT, it's about $20.
Add that to the monthly dial-up service (another $20) and you've got $40. Adelphia's got decent service for $49.99 a month. That's only $10 a month more than I was paying, I've got superior DL speeds, and it frees up my phone line.
As you might know, Slashdot runs on Greenwich Mean Time. That means that you're reading the last story posted in 2001, in which we've gathered some more year-end submissions.
Uh-uh! THIS was the last story posted in 2001. Posted by timothy on 21:19 Monday 31 December 2001, to be precise, as opposed to 18:59 Monday 31 December 2001 for this story.
See, this is precisely my point. All these laptops come from manufacturers like Sony, Toshiba, etc that make them specifically to their own spec.
Same thing goes with cars. Now, obviously, we're not going to get standardized cars, but that's comparing apples & oranges.
We already have standardized PC components. Your 21" CRT, at least I assume, plugs into a standard VGA port. Your flatscreen probably plugs into a DVI connector. These are the standards I'm talking about. I can buy an Inwin case, an Asus motherboard, my choice of processor, RAM. Presto! a PC.
There are proprietary PC's, obviously. And, of course, there are proprietary notebooks. But there's no reason we couldn't have both. If a lot of manufacurers made them, they would even be reasonably priced, due to competition factor.
I am curious...by why aren't laptop's standardized like desktop PC's are?
I mean, I can hop on to just about any computer show, and walk out in 10 minutes with the parts for a PC. It seems like this wouldn't be too difficult. A case/power supply, different LCD's to fit inside said case, components, etc...
For those who don't know about the site Techbargains.Com is a cornucopia of deals online. Do a search on Kensington, there's a code that knocks $39 off the price. If it's still valid, that is.
I'm constantly amazed by the way people are 'frightened' of cameras in the streets, busways, busses, and other public places. Emphasis on the word 'public.' Like somehow, a camera on the street is going to take that away from me.
Frankly, if someone is monitoring said camera while I'm walking down the street, and I get mugged, hit by a car, or have a heart attack, I'll be thankful that (hopefully) they'll do something about it. The real worry should be if they want to start placing said devices in homes. Where privacy _should_ be.
I can appreciate previews ruining the plot to movies.
Anyone see The Bone Collector? With Denzel Washington & Angelina Jolie? I hadn't seen this, and rented it on DVD. Usually the first thing I do is check out some of the extras. I don't go deeply into the disk b/c of the risk of spoiler content. So, I usually watch the trailer, b/c they're not going to have spoiler info in there, right?
Wrong; the killer starts spouting off, just a few seconds into the preview. He's got an extremely distinctive voice, so immediately, it's quite apparent who's who. I spent the rest of the film cursing.
You may not need to clip it. It would take a good eye, but you should be able to coat the pin in something non-conductive, perhaps clear nail polish. That would serve the purpose, AFAIK. Any one else have anything to say on that?
Intel has spent oodles of money pushing their new processor, the Pentium 4. As opposed to the Pentium IV, which no one has heard of. Trademark, trademark, trademark!!!
Buy local, pay cash.

It's been stated above, but it's about time a megaplayer got their hands dirty.

Tried submitting this to /. last night, got rejected (naturally).
Naturally.
Does anyone else think that when they turn 18, and are no longer 'cute,' will go into pr0n?
Nope, no sir. I'm sticking with 2.4.11.
Why does it always have to be about UPS vs. FedEx? Can't we just drop it?
It seems to me that UPS _DID_ drop it, several times, by the looks of the pictures.
Oh, wait...I think that was a joke. Never mind.

Use v.1.7. I'm still using it, no prawblems here.
I know about this one. I bought one.

Tin Foil helmet. TIN FOIL. The lead ones don't do any good, and they're heavy.

Geeze, I had forgotten all about the 'Naked & Petrified' posts. Has it's time come again?

And just WHAT is wrong with Def Leppard?
If I could get to it, I'd post a mirror at my usual http://home.adelphia.net/~vengnce/slashmirror/
That sounds spicy. I'm sure there are quite a few people that'd like to see you put up a page on it.
Incidentally, what were the power requirements?
And, off topic, does anyone have any info on and old RCA camcoder, the CC011?
