After reading only a few posts I was finally motivated to dedupe my SkyDrive. Using FastDuplicateFileFinder I found many dupes and sorted through them. My number of files was a mere fraction of the OP's files, but this worked for me. I was surprised to find some I no longer needed and some I barely remembered from back in 1993.
Let's look at this from a cost benefit perspective.
California spends about $10k/student/year. They are ranked 47th on the science test.
Utah spends about $6k/student/year. They are ranked 4th on the science test.
It seems obvious to me 'more money' does not mean 'better educations'.
I am a retired public school teacher and I have to agree with your characterization of public schools as "gigantic and expensive fail-whales"
The whole point of high tech is to make something look easy that is hard for most people to understand . Else why do it?
That almost always brings with it a high price unless you're MacGyver. I think the OP is barking mad if s/he thinks it can be done on the cheap.
From TFA:
"With the evaporative cooling method employed in the data centre, cold water is brought into the facility, where it’s used to cool the hot air from the servers. Some of it evaporates into the air via cooling towers, while the rest remains as a liquid." There, I've spoiled the fun. Sue me.
The statute is particularly dangerous because it has no temporal or geographic limitations, and can be used by this and future presidents to militarily detain people captured far from any battlefield. - Anthony D. Romero, ACLU executive director.
"ignores due process" ? I'm sure the white house would never allow that. Except in the NDAA when detaining American citizens indefinitely without.... No, wait...
Gloom and frickin doom. I wish they'd stuff that stupid clock where the sun don't shine. I'm sick of all this fear mongering. Why don't they do something to help people for once?
There, I feel better now.
If the amount of forwarded misinformation I receive from some of my otherwise intelligent friends is any indication, I'm inclined to disagree. Too many of these forwards are total fabrication and I can't for the life of me understand why they get passed on, but they do.
"Customer service sucks with all cell phone carriers. I've tried them all and have stories for each."
My experience differs sharply. I have had Verizon wireless service for years and every time I have had a need to contact their customer service I spoke to a real human that I could understand. I got my issues solved.
AT&T on the other hand, jerked me around squarely. I detest them.
YMMV
The best time to look for a job is when you have a job. You can be selective and the wolf isn't at your door. So if the choice is job or no job, I'd choose job. From there I'd keep looking if it wasn't what I wanted.
This is sad. Where I used to teach there was absolutely NO verification of income for the free lunch program. In fact, it was expressly forbidden to even question the qualification of any application, no matter how obviously egregious the situation. There were strong incentives for the school to qualify as many students as possible, linked to additional federal funding going directly to the school. Somehow I doubt this will be any better supervised.
There are many for sale on Ebay. I am presently using one I purchased at a very good price from a merchant there. One must exercise caution to avoid stolen phones.
There are a few 'off site' nuclear waste storage facilities in the USA. I have seen the one near Morris, Illinois. It's like a huge swimming pool in a steel sided barn. It's quite deep and constantly glows with a blue light. The building has no other heat source and is warm all winter.
"childish, immature people" ?
C'mon, this is Slashdot.

So you're telling me there's wrinkles outside Uranus ?
What could possibly go wrong??

old light bulbs because those curly ones are too hard to understand.
.
I understand how they work. I dislike them because I find them to be unreliable.
When I saw "The New York Times examines" I knew we had a very reputable source.
Bullwinkle, was that you?

Military applications coming in 3...2...1...

One similarity of both systems is the efficient delivery of viruses.
Pogo seems to be doing swimmingly by appealing to women.

The usual technique for discouraging whistle blowing has not been abandoned. Some FOIA requests are being blocked and we just rarely hear about it. http://js10131979.new.newsvine.com/_news/2011/03/17/6288196-top-lawmaker-takes-issue-with-dhs-whistle-blower-demotion
