fair enough... I'll admit I didn't read the article. Just wanted to make sure the distinction was made that the trading of real-life kiddie porn shouldn't be defended. The virtual stuff... well, I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it's "thoughtcrimey"... on the other, I'll go ahead and draw a line in the sand to assert that it's sick. I'll stop just short of passing judgment and suggesting a resolution to the issue.
Good points all around... the question is, does anyone who lives near there have the gonads to stand up and fight for this kid? go to the media! write paper editorials! talk to local politicians! bring it up @ PTA meetings!
you hit the nail on the head. At least in the software industry, I think people are starting to realize that the technical content you can get at a conference is readily available from the web... and the networking (which had always been the real value in the first place), is easily trumped by simply going to local user groups and getting some recognition by having a good website/blog and posting good content.
They tried that at a GDC a few years back where they ended up giving a good number of the attendees free HD tvs. Do a google search for Greg Costikyan's GDC rant for a bit of what that resulted in.
that being said, I'm pretty durn excited about XNA. I think that may change things going forward
I absolutely love the voiceover. His little comments and quips are very entertaining and well spoken.

I love it when he yells at you for running over citizens:-P

It's not windows that's misbehaving (or at least who initiates the misbehaving)... it's the little bastard that comes over after school to play, convinces windows to light his parent's curtains on fire, then convinces his parents to blame windows for the fire.
dude, you're such a fud-spreading hoser, you intentionally added emphasis on the wrong part:
... What I think is going to be important to the future of this business, in addition to better graphics and better sound and smoother animation, is that we have to be better storytellers and that we start to create characters that people care about. I think that, longer term, (it will) help to broaden the demographics where we get more women into the demographic and even broaden the age demographic.
For what it's worth, I was on the superman tools team for a short while (few months). At no time was the vision for the game a "Beat'Em Up with snazzy graphics"... That's just unfortunately how it turned out after they cut feature after feature for time and technical reasons.
because it's slashdot and I can :-P

what part of "trading real-world child porn in SL" is a thought crime?
Maybe that just means that any documents like that don't actually exist, and that the RIAA isn't actually a corrupt organization. How's that ;-)

well said sid0 ... like I tell my coworkers ... UAC annoyance can and will only go down in frequency once app developers get their act together

Nice! I would definitely buy this along with the inevitable star wars sabre simulator ... let's just hope it's better than red steel.
What ever happened to their indy developer program? seems like this would have been the perfect audience to mention something to
Just think, clippy could bust out with, "It's a meeee Clipppyyy!"

yes, well said. People don't realize that half of windows' problems are caused by the programs that run on windows, not windows itself
