It's a gamers' chat software.. Seems like it's got a rather large user base which makes it a great place to advertise, no wonder a big firm buys it. Wikipedia article.
I don't know about that, but here's the/. article on the lawsuit. The link might have been useful enough to be included in the summary, IMO, but didn't.. naturally.

Indeed. And remember, if you'll wait for an upcoming IT release now, you're gonna wait every time (and consequently never buy anything). That's a good way to save cash..
You're both wrong and right. Scandinavia itself isn't a continent like Europe, it's "just" a region in Europe. Therefore Finland is located in both Europe and Scandinavia. And officially (according to Wikipedia anyway, which I think is wrong in this case), Finland isn't even a Scandinavian country, but merely located in "Greater Scandinavia" or "Norden", making Finland a Nordic country. Go figure.
I can't imagine there's a large group of manufacturers for 30" LCD
If I'm not mistaken, Samsung released their 30" LCD yesterday (or today). It should have similar specs, but be a bit cheaper. I didn't find any good links at samsung.com though. Does anyone have more info?
Obviously they do not replace CPU's killed by user error, regardless of whether the CPU was cracked with a waterblock or a boxed heatsink. After all, it is clear that the watercooler in TFA is designed to be as easy to install as the boxed cooler and if you are likely to crack your CPU core with it you are as likely to crack it with the boxed cooler. And frankly, warranties aside, if you (or someone else) are likely to crack your CPU core with this watercooler, you shouldn't be installing your CPU in the first place.
In this day and age of more efficient CPU's (AMD) and quiet components (Fan, PSU, HDD, etc). Water cooled will not be needed as much, and will remain a niche...with the associated danger.
Watercoolers will remain as much a niche as heavy aircoolers mainly because CPU warranties become void the moment you put on it anything else than the boxed cooler (at least it does on my AMD Athlon). Unless, of course, you are willing to lie to the retailer that you used the boxed cooler all the time. If manufacturers realised that coolers are very easy to install nowadays (the boxed cooler of my AMD was harder to install than the Waterchill I've used until a few days ago) they would forget the stupid warranty rules and people would buy watercoolers as they are silent, powerful and today as cheap as aircoolers.
As to travel, the entire 2005 budget was $17,000. For comparison purposes, Wikimedia speds roughly the same amount on office supplies. Are they using too much paper too?
Well, since some nude photos exist in Wikipedia, I'd probably say yes.
Why would anyone want to stop using the internet just for the sake of proving he's capable of it?
I can totally understand grandparent's attitude towards internet addiction. I, for one, use it nearly 8 hours a day and I don't consider myself addicted - I could stop anytime, if it suited my interests. Right now, I'm getting my money and my knowledge off the internet, so basically, when someone tells me I should quit using the net, what they're really saying is I should throw away my life as I know it. It's just not something you do for the sake of it.
If I could see some point in taking a leave from the net, I would do it. No one's given me that motivator, yet.
IRC is the ultimate IM protocol. Although at least Messenger does support multi-user conversations, IRC has always been the king of the hill of multi-user chat. Brilliant for in-office use.
And of those three you mentioned, I only know local users for Messenger (not taking into consideration that nearly all of them use MSN Messenger, not Windows Messenger). So that makes AIM and Google Talk pretty useless - no users, no chat program.
They are already making one. It will be out in 2007. Sad part is it won't feature any of the current Star Trek cast. And we don't really know what it will be about.

Hmm.. Come to think of it, yes you do! Please transfer $500 to my Paypal account immediately.
Thanks,

If it had a keyboard, I'd buy one right away. Without keyboard, what's it good for?
Anything a tablet PC is good for. Want a keyboard? Buy a laptop (or an external keyboard, for that matter...)
No shit? :)

does it get you banned in WoW? :P
So please, stop making everything about Evil Bill. It may get you quickly modded as "insightful" in Slashdot, but not much more than that.
But that's all your average Slashdotter needsWell, fire was probably invented 'by accident' and still I call it quite a technological accomplishment.
It seems like saying I should sue /. for keeping me a wake all night to try and get first posts.
And then you post and come in second.. Oh, the humanity...
That's probably a FYI for the under-19 year olds who are wondering if they should come and have a go at installing Linux.

In most optical mice, the 'eye' is on the table side ;)

Good products don't need advertisements. Bad products- or products indistinguishable from their competitors- need advertisements.
To the average user, Firefox is indistinguishable from its competitors. Hence the ads and all the hype to make it stand out.

The major issue is pricing; the 1 TB is about $1300.
Price is a concern, but a minor one.
So.. You think it's a cute looking box? I think so too. In my opinion, it's quite ugly. Very pretty, if I may say so.
iTunes Music Store.
If enough people bypass these phone systems, maybe the big companies will finally get a clue and start providing real customer service again
Or, big companies will simply introduce more sophisticated system.
Or, big companies will get rid of customer service. Would that be any better?
Who would have guessed?
