Our Government should not be choosing in what Americans have savvy. Focus on economic growth, maintaining the infrastructure, and keeping us safe. We will focus on what we want to be 'savvy' in, thanks.
Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs was very public in his condemnation of Flash as a tool for rich-content playback, denigrating it in an April 2010 letter posted on Apple's Website as flawed with regard to battery life, security, reliability and performance.
That was just PR to keep the masses thinking Apple was on their side. The real reason they ddin't support Flash was because it was a code interpreter. i.e. It let you run external code. That meant if iOS supported Flash, you could use it to run apps on your iOS device without having gotten them via the App Store.
At the time, Apple had a very strict policy against code interpreters. They've loosened their stance somewhat since then, but it's still pretty restrictive. It's their garden, and they want to keep it walled off. On the one hand this does improve the security of their devices somewhat. On the other it means all executables which are bought and sold for the device have to go through their App Store and 30% cut.
Battery life, reliability, and performance were all red herrings because in most Android browsers, the Flash plugin wouldn't play by default. If you went to a web page with embedded Flash, an image of a stylized F would show up in its place, and you had to click on it before the Flash would actually play. No hit to the device's performance unless you specifically wanted the Flash to play.
Don't think you understand how these technologies work.
Apple has adopted HTML5 capabilities such as local storage, offline caching, and web workers as fast as anyone. You can make fantastic mobile web apps on top of HTML5 completely bypassing the app store.
Flash is an abomination and needed to go. There was no ulterior motive here. It was a terrible technology that needed to be put down.
No one cares about the #1 and #2 highest selling phones in the world last quarter??
The Windows camp used to make the same argument about Windows95. It was a lame counterpoint then. It's still a lame counterpoint now.
And Windows is still, by a wide margin, the most used desktop operating system in the world. Sounds like people cared about Windows 15 years ago and still do today.
The taxes are pushed off to the employees and it is there problem. What bothers me about income tax is when people Ike Steve Jobs got paid $1/year on the books and lived off their stock (I'll honestly admit I don't know how that works). So I'm for shifting away from just taxing income to taxing more in sales tax because the rich tend to have fine tastes.
As a shareholder, I would rather the execs get paid through stock options rather than cash. If the execs don't have skin in the game it worries me.
The article states several times that this applies to paid-for apps, but what about free ones?
Downloading a free app does not transmit this information to the developer.
Problem is Google Checkout was rigged on top of Google Play. Was rushed out to follow the App Store. It has never been optimized for digital purchases.
To make a tablet that can be easily repairable and upgradable, you are making concessions on the size and weight of the product.
Fact is the majority of consumers couldn't repair their tablet even if it scored '10 of 10'. Given the choice, they would choose the thinner and lighter product every time.
Will buy anything they put out. Who needs useful features? iOS is behind in features compared to Android and even WP yet touted as the "most advanced". And people will defend that to their death. Apple is just moving closer and closer to what they have always been: A jewelry/fashion company. Doesn't matter WHAT it does. It'll make millions 'cuz its shiny.
Shiny stuff that is consistently higher performing than competitor products. The ease of use, aluminum (rather than plastic) build quality, and higher stability are just bonuses.
Without the iPhone or iPad, Apple would still be very profitable
...no it wouldn't what a load of rubbish, its profits would take a massive dive instantly. Most of their profits come from the iPhone. Secondly without the iPhone/iPad is Apple relevant.
Oh, come on. The new chip will be slightly more powerful than the old chip, which itself is about as powerful as the previous chip, which manages to compete with high end tablets from 2 years ago in terms of processing power.
Aren't you excited to have the most powerful iPad yet? This evolutionary tiptoe ahead in the leaping and bounding table marketspace?
Think you need to do your homework. The A6X puts everything else in the mobile industry to shame.
Now we can wait for the hardware repetition of the Google Maps fiasco. Whose head is going to roll this time when the shit hits the fan?
Apple has already moved production (either partly or completely) away from Samsung for retina displays and RAM.
Don't forget that Apple designs the A6 and retina display, they simply outsource the production. This makes it extremely easy to change suppliers. The only question would be if TSMC can meet demand.
Seems to me like the focus of those quotes were the impacts of removing God from the education system, not necessarily the impacts of violent video games on the youth.
Disclaimer: I am not religious, however I have no issue with those who do believe.
I agree with Judge Koh that the limited infringement doesn't warrant banning Samsung's products. OTOH, Both parties were time constrained, and Samsung didn't get some evidence of prior art submitted, and of course they weren't able to make detailed checks of the jurors. That seems unfair, particularly when the Juror in question seemed to pretty much be boasting about how he manipulated the other jurors.
Samsung and Apple had the same deadlines for submitting evidence. Laziness isn't an excuse to change a verdict.
Sad this judge should set a retrial as to how bad the jury screwed up not just with the foreman but as in terms of all the prior art they didn't even bother to look at that instructions said they had to. AN appeal will come from samsung, so as with cases like this its never over for years.
Sigh, this again.
The jury ignored prior art only for patents where they found no infringement. It there is no patent infringement, the 'prior art' argument is moot.
So if Google stood up and said "we're not playing the patent game anymore", and got rid of all of their patents, what do you think would happen? Until the system changes, it would be kind of stupid to just sit back and get destroyed by everyone else's patent litigation. Participation doesn't mean that their primary goal isn't changing the system.
Most believed Google would be using the Motorola patents defensively. Instead they are using the Motorola Mobility patent portfolio to ban everything from smartphones, to tablets, to the Xbox 360.
Currently Google is pre-selected as the search engine for iOS devices. We all know Google hardly makes a dime from Android directly - they are an advertising company. Google ironically makes more money from iOS due to the higher usage of iOS devices around the world (and, in turn, more ad impressions).
Are you smoking fucking rock?
— Android (Google Inc.) — 104.8 million units, 68.1 percent share (46.9 percent a year earlier)
— iOS (Apple Inc.'s iPhone) — 26.0 million units, 16.9 percent share (18.8 percent a year earlier)
Get your facts straight, jesus christ.
I said usage marketshare, which has nothing to do with device marketshare.
Our Government should not be choosing in what Americans have savvy. Focus on economic growth, maintaining the infrastructure, and keeping us safe. We will focus on what we want to be 'savvy' in, thanks.
Yeah, because Apple is exactly the opposite.
Apple doesn't license iOS to other hardware partners, so it really is the opposite.
If HTC could make an iOS device, but they couldn't install a competing product to buy music/movies, it would be similar.

literally every single person that's ever sold at least one app on the app store since the beginning of the app store has "discovered" this
The problem is literally (almost) every single person that has ever purchased an app doesn't know this, and those people outnumber the developers.

iCloud will absolutely sync documents.

Look at Netflix - a very tiny minority of users subscribe to Netflix through AppleTV using their iTunes account.
Very few people would also subscribe to Office365 through an iDevice. Most will subscribe through other means and download the app for free.
I call hogwash.

You are confusing profit margin with profit.
Apple has serious competition now. Back when they were the only game in town they could do as they pleased
The iPhone marketshare right now is highest in Apple history with >53% of the US market. They were never the 'only game in town'.

You think Google lost here?
The only reason they completely overpaid for Motorola Mobility was for their patent portfolio. You could argue they have lost $12.5 billion.
Oh, come on. The new chip will be slightly more powerful than the old chip, which itself is about as powerful as the previous chip, which manages to compete with high end tablets from 2 years ago in terms of processing power.

Engadget is another site that looks much better at the mobile media query. Shrink the browser horizontally to get rid of the tangential junk.
I'll also be a contrarian here. Diablo 3 has improved greatly since release. Problem is the current patch (1.06) is what should have been at launch.
