Good post. All I really have to say in reply is this: stupid freaking softwood lumber! How long does it really take to figure out how much you're going to charge for (dead) trees?!??!??
Living in B.C., I hear a lot about this softwood lumber dealie. It's retarded. Neither side wants to back down. By now I'm pretty sure most people in these parts assosiate the words "softwood lumber dispute" with "bunch of morons" ( or at least I do ).
The reason you get to listen for things on the radio for free is because the radio station got a license to play that music ( which they pay for with all those ads you hear ).
When I see parents who have to know every single little detail about where their children are, and what they are doing, every single moment.... I get a little freaked out. The type of parent who rushes their kid(s) inside for a big 'ol dose of antiseptic because the kid scratched their knee while they were playing outside. I wonder how that kid is going to handle living in the real world, when mommy and daddy aren't around to fend off every boo-boo and bad thing that comes their way.
Actually, come to think of it, I think I know a couple of people who were likely raised that way. One of them ( my girlfriends roommate ), doesn't know how to manage her money, so every time the rent is due, is either asking my girlfriend for a small loan, or begging her parents for some more money. Why her parents keep giving her money I don't know ( especially after paying for her school, her residency, and several months of her rent previously ), but it really annoys the hell out of my girlfriend.
I guess I'm trying to say that I'm just not sure I want people that were either over-coddeled or over-protected by their parents in any positions of power in the future.
Fido is owned by Rogers, and I completly forgot about Bell. Although in the Lower Mainland, from what I can tell, Bell doesn't seem to be as big as Telus and Rogers.
My mother is a doctor ( an anesthesiologist, to be exact ), and she regularly watches shows like ER and House. She only watches them for the drama, because watching a show like ER to learn how to do medicine is like watching Hackers to learn how to be a system administrator.
Ah, St. Patty's day. The most hallowed of holidays. The day where everyone gets to be Irish. In other words, taking all your unhappy feelings, turning it into a small dark ball, forcing it deep down inside, and pouring alcohol on it to make the hurt go away. =D
The only thing I find funnier than this comment is that it's currently sitting at "3, Insightful". Indeed, that is truly some deep wisdom that should be preserved for further generations.
Just out of curiosity, how many different carriers do you have access to? I have the feeling that most of the people on this thread ( or at least, most of the ones replying to you ) live in the US.
I live in Canada ( British Columbia to be exact ), and I only have access to two mobile providers, Telus and Rogers Wireless. I'm currently with Rogers, but I want to switch over to Telus. At the moment though, this would mean ditching my $300 phone ( the Sony Ericson s710a ). The reason? Telus doesn't want to touch phone with SIM cards with a thousand foot pole. I could probably get the phone unlocked, but I've heard that really only works for Telus->Rogers switching, and not the other way around.
I'd have to say that either you don't live in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, or you do and haven't met many of the right people. I've met tons of friendly and outgoing people here ( and have lived here practially since birth, so I've met a lot of BC-ians ). But of course, YMMV.
I think I'm going to try using your tactics from now on, and just tell the moderators how to mod me.
[moderators: this is supposed to be insightful.]

My thoughts exactly.
