Well the slashdot C.S. major at a liberal arts school with courses in A.I. thinks that this is a good definition but is hard to pragmatically create in a computer. There are ways to do this, but the problem it in the descriptions you would use you are building in a set idea, which limits the system. Recursive logic is used often, especially in LISP, which along with ProLog is used for AI work. This idea is interesting but it would take years of work to get anything near working that actually did something more than detect it's own output, and detect the output of that detection.

  2. Re:But where's the problem? on Xbox Modders Charged Under DMCA · · Score: 1

I dislike the DMCA also, but there are appropriate uses. Here is an analogy; a man buys a stock gun and then hacks/mods/upgrades it to get around laws. He now has an illegal item. Or here is another analogy, a criminal mods a home console to play pirated software... oh wait, that's what happened! The problem with the DMCA is that it has no clause for malice or intent to circumvent other laws. Simply modding to add legal features should not be a crime, what they did should be. The DMCA has serious flaws, which can be abused. Cars can kill people, something that the DMCA has yet to do. Why not stop driving cars? The law should be amended, not repealed.

true, they are doing a horrible job in the programming department, but if they had done a better job as G4 and Techtv separately in that department they wouldn't be in this situation in the first place
don't get me wrong, I loved techtv, especially "call for help" and "the screensavers" but obviously they whole thing was a wash financially, my point was the market for slashdot tv just isn't big enough, if it was, we'd be watching right here

seriously... they do what makes them money, just like any other network, no point in complaining... have you seen the drible they show on the learning channel... and if I see one more shark week on discovery! It's the way tv works, unless they can make a premium(ads free) cable tech channel work, they're going to have to give us what the advertisers want, not what we want

No, it was their fault. They thought the industry wasn't ready for 3d, neither did Nintendo... who actually gave Sony their gaming ambitions in the first place. Sega screwed up with the 32x and then again with the Saturn, although a good system, development was horrible.

I just bought a new RF unit for my system last week. The dreamcast was the best all around console ever. It gave excellent graphics for the time at a fare price. The games were innovative and the online play was fun! With some great launch titles they easily had one of the best launches ever. If only they hadn't had such a hard time with the Saturn Sega would still be an industry leader instead of a digital pimp for a pachinko company!
