Then how about sell a subscription service where you can stream any song you want anytime you want from Antiguan servers? The songs are stored there, so you're not making a copy. Unless, of course, you copy the stream, or "circumvent" their stringent protections against copying songs directly. Wink wink, nod nod. Isn't streaming it in effect making a copy though? In RAM if nothing else? I'm not saying that's right or that all streams leave a "copy" on your PC but I can see it being spun that way.

When I was in driver's ed, one of the instructors was reading from the textbook (this was in the 80s, and the textbook was probably 25 years old at that point) where it said to give quick beeps on your horn to signal to other drivers as you are passing them, and at some other innocuous times. He then told us that he had tried this, and even when he also smiled and waved, the reaction from other drivers was... well, less than friendly.

My drivers ed manual said to flash the high beams at people to signal this as well. People react to that about the same as the horn technique you described...

The check marks simply mean that PM has a source link to provide with info on the candidates stance in that category. The check mark is the link. If there is no check mark it means PM doesn't have reliable source to point you to.

Granted it's certainly not "easy to follow" but after figuring it out and actually following the links I found it to be pretty informative.

It doesn't matter what other OS makers do in this case. It's not about whether or not an OS should come bundled with a browser, a media player or several choices of each.

It's about a convicted monopolist leveraging their market dominence to force people to use their software. When a company does something that is good for their business (ship a browser with their OS) we can not compare it to what a monopolist in the market place does. By definition such actions by a monopolist cause harm to competing businesses and the marketplace in general.

We could argue the merits of whether or not MS deserve to be called a monopolist. But as it stands now the EU and the US have ruled that they are and therefore the typical regulations that apply to businesses don't necessarily apply to them. Earning this title has put them into a postion where they will be regulated differently, even uniquely, in an attempt to curb their absolute control over the desktop PC market.

I always figured that that type of spam are more probes then anything else. Stick a web bug in a GIF, which is itself a picture of text, and see if it's getting through to people.

I'm sure some of it is just a mistake but there is more to it then that for most spam I think. Another reason behind it might just be to raise "product awareness". Like if you assault people with enough Viagra ads then eventually they will seek out Viagra or respond to that spam that finally has some contact info.

On top of that what recourse does local law enforcement have if the spammer is outside their jurisdiction? IANAL and I know extradition and international law are complicated subjects but I figure that's why local law enforcement doesn't try to follow up on a lot of online crime, simply because it is complicated and probably a hassle for them to deal with.
