I'm not sure if there's a lesson in there somewhere,
Errr.. Yes, I believe you. IMHO helpdesk 'Techs' are a breed of their own. I'm generalizing here so I don't mean all helpdesk jockeys, and most of them can follow the bouncing ball by running through troubleshooting trees on a screen in front of them. A lesser though significant portion of them can talk on the phone at the same time. I know a few who have been frontline for Dell, MS, and HP and if you take them away from their comfort zone, they have remarkably little knowledge. It's when you get to Supervisor help that your problem gets 'escalated' to proper Tech support where the guy/gal actually knows what they're talking about.
Clearly popups don't work in an effective way, yet programmers continue to use them for the wrong purposes.... What would make more sense is for programmers to design their pop up use better so that it is more meaningful for the user.

I know that NASA are a bunch of good people, and I know that there are very good reasons for why they do things the way they do. But PLEASE!!! 2 years to go 11 km? I know that the Rover will stop every now and then to check out soil samples etc, but 2 years??? I'm thinking of a radio controlled 4wd you can get from a serious hobby shop that'll do at least 1km between charges! I suppose what I'm saying is that future rovers should be designed for as many possible contingencies (like long distant travel for example). Maybe they could even take pics of Martian landscapes set for human vision too. That would be nice.
http://www.graysonline.com.au/ is a standard auction house that went live. They use everything that you mention. There are ebay clones out there as well that also use the same methods. Grays online doesn't use a 'buy it now', principally because it's a real auction site. In other news, Ebay is trying to promote buy it now much more than auctions, trying to turn itself into an on-line retailer using shopfronts for stock and drop offs. They hold no stock, don't involve themselves in distribution. They just list and make profit.
There are severe technical difficulties securing most OS against USB based drives. There are complicated registry hacks in Windows to try and prevent thumb drive access (R/W) as there doesn't seem to be a group policy to govern this. Some computers have USB disconnected and/or plugged up to prevent access. So there is no easy technical solution.
So what about Deletionpedia http://deletionpedia.dbatley.com/w/index.php?title=Main_Page They claim that they store all deleted Wikipedia pages. IF this is so, wouldn't they also be subject to the DCMA notice? Or does Nielsen have to give them a separate one as well?
The distance to the vertical antenna determines the pitch, whereas the distance to the horizontal circular antenna controls the volume.
I once built one in the late 60's from an electronics mag. It had 2 aluminium plates about 10 cm2 for antennas. Sometime years later I dusted it off and managed to set the sensitivity so that if anyone came into the room it would start to 'click' and then howl as they approached. Also, some episodes of the original Lost in Space used Theremins for controls. A neat idea. I wonder if motion detectors work on the same principle?
but a moth without balls is called a female moth. I take your point. At the time I wrote that, I was thinking of Ned Nederlander in 3 Amigos when a Tiger Moth flies overhead. [Dusty Bottoms and Lucky Day thinks Ned Nederlander is saying "mail" plane]
Dusty Bottoms: What is it doing here? Ned Nederlander: I think it's a male plane. Dusty Bottoms: How can you tell? Ned Nederlander: Didn't you notice its little balls?
And in case this needs explaining, the little balls he was referring to was the undercarriage of the Tiger Moth.
How about DOS? That's what I thought. DOS 6+ or some type of free Dos would be the fastest and easiest way. I used an old 386 with a dot matrix for stuff like invoices and text but got sick of re-inking the ribbons. There's some gui text editors around too. I have an Apple//e with a HD that boots very fast as well into native 80 column mode. The trick here is to use fast old hardware and stripped down OS.
Agree. There are quite a few historical articles that have been argued over by non-admin. These are differences of opinions and differences in interpretation of sources. I always go to the discussion pages to see what the debate is all about. If it wasn't for these pages, Wikipedia would only have half its value for me.
I thought it was Canadian. At least I think so. Maybe it was the distribution company. I checked IMDB and although it was filmed in many places, I couldn't determine the production company.

Here is a forum link for one poor unfortunate who managed to get a new non-Asus laptop: http://apcmag.com/Forum.htm?g=posts&t=504
Here is a screenshot of the config folder: http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/4320/8192008120604amaw4.png
So if you've got an affected Asus laptop with a few months of warranty left, you may be able to get a new non-Asus laptop for nix.
What does a microwave do to a motherboard?

Is that an empirical statement? I suppose you have hands on experience about that?

Mothballs are exciting only to moths.
A moth without balls is a eunuch.
I would say that mothballs are extremely important to moths.
Silicone based lifeforms in ST.org is a bit different.
ST2 had intelligent microbial lifeforms.
Which ST are you talking about?
That looks too good to be true!
Thanks for the link.

Where are you going to find an additional 7 seats?
Even if you can pilot a rescue shuttle with 2, where's the standing room?
Honestly, isn't stuff like this why we all went into computer science
I went into computer science for the girls........
Great!
There is also this: http://lickbyneck.com/ - a bit jazzy though but *free*

Pity.

Forget Rhode Island or Texas... always use Wales.

Wow, what a boring science mission.
At least they don't need a camera. No more fuzzy b/w images for us to worry about.
