I started linux with fedora, and then it was formatted in a weeks time with windoze on it (my uncle, a windoze sys admin, thought I should use it, and not linux), and from what I saw of it, fedora was Ok, and the packet manager is kinda cool.
The problem with it is that it isn't universal, and the same problem exsists with apt -get install, which I would love to be put into slackware (which i was dragged into - fist full time distro+slackware= PAIN+steep_learning_curve), and am even thinking of getting Debiean purely for the apt command... it would make life a LOT easyer.
I am a games development student, and have actually talked to one of the main developers for EA, and a lot of the development DOES NOT go on graphics.
It goes on things like:
bounding boxes (the way the characters hit each other and what parts actually collide) - in the first EA NFL game, the players were one big bounding box - 6 sides, collisions even if you were hitting thin air, whereas now they are FAR more complicated
AI - This is a massive money pit at the moment, especially in sports games, where each player MUST interact with their team in a way that THE REAL PLAYER would (otherwise there are complaints - and no, I'm not joking), never mind the replayability of these games by the teams using different strategies
Physics - although you may not think it, you put a LOT of importance on physics, such as if a car starts sinking into the ground, or how a ball bounces on the ground. That can cost MILLIONS to develop.
other games - for every 3 games that are produced, only one comes out to retail, even if they were part of a series (such as dungeon keeper 3)
Market Research - a lot of money goes into making sure the game is what the market want, and although we sigh at ANOTHER NHL game, it sells BIG
cross continent development - although this technically should be in the market research area, I think it deserves an area on its own. This is the development of a game to suit different cultures, where there are many different stereotypes and links for different objects (i.e. certain flowers mean death in some cultures), and as once happened to Ford in Greece, if you call a car a turd, its not going to sell very well
Grass roots Development - helping people like me get INTO the industry and learn about the software, such as sponsorships through Uni and giving us access to software (which can cost thousands)
Marketing - this can account for a lot of money (in some cases around a third of a games total cost)
Initial testing - this stops REALLY stupid bugs existing in games (unlike in certain OS')
Patching - although this comes a looooong way after the game comes out, there needs to be money for the later patching and development of a game (World Of Warcraft costs $3mill each YEAR to develop further- and that's just the main game without the add on packs!)
so, if you think the games developments company's only think about the graphics, think again!
I am an interested party, from Nigeria, who would like to invest some capital in your project, but due to Nigerian law, I will require a small payment of $2000 to be made to this acount first, before the transaction of $6,000,000 can be made.
although this is the UK, I was discriminated against, and almost sued the school, when the head of discipline (yes, our school actually had one), dragged me down to the main office and proceeded to tell me "the school is above the law", while my head of house tried to keep his face straight.
The only reason I didn't, was that it would possibly cause problems for my brother who was coming up in a years time to the same high school.
If your school systems are similar, I would hope that you would take them to Court.
It may cause the entire polar oposite, a load of targeted search engines designed to fileter out this kind of thing... I sure know thats what I'm about to use it for.
First thing, its not a disease, its a gift, a genetic difference that gives us an agility to think in ways that you don't. a difference that means we don't discriminate because of race, religion or creed automatically because they are 'different' because we don't see people that way.
Yes, we find it hard to find friends, but I have plenty, and i was in no way 'pimping' anything to get more friends, I just believe that if someone has Autism it is often best to get information from people who are in a similar boat, people who have been through the stone-throwing, the gangs beating you up, the threatenings with broken glass bottles when you are a mear 100m outside the school gates, and I went to a NICE school.
Its people like you that we have to cure of ignorance, because we are not attention seeking, in fact in the majority of cases, we would by far prefer to be on our own. I know people that have been the same, and some will never change. I hope one day that someone in your family is diagnosed Autistic, but I hope for the sake of the child that its not your son or daughter, because I'm sure you would be one of the parents desperately trying to make your child 'normal' through eletro-shocks (while awake for doing 'bad things'), cleation to remove heavy metals with needles every day (proven not to work, yet is still done regularly) and many other things that parents try to do to make their child more normal. If you don't believe me, email me and I will send you the links.
its not that it has been taken to be too broad, its more that there are a lot of people in certan areas of socity that don't work in the same way, or in any way near what neurologicaly typical people work, to the extent that the brain is designed in a very different way.
Because people get 'labled' with a form of autism, it means that methods of helping them in daily life can be found, and that they can meet up with people with similar minds, who tend to get on well and work well together.
I don't think it has been taken too far, I think there are a lot of people who could benifit with help that can be provided in schools and socity in general.
and bare in mind that what people call 'mild Autism' isn't very mild at all...
I, personaly have Autism, Aspergers Syndrome to be exact.
Many of us whach TV to try to understand the world, since as far as we can see, its a deeply f**ked up place, where people kill for fun, where people wage wars because they can and where people do jobs they don't want to do and then moan about it, yet refuse to do anything about it.
TV helps us understand the insane world around us, help us learn how people respond, what fatial movements mean, what body language as a whole means. We don't know thease things almost from birth like the majority of people. We have to learn them like somebody would learn quantum mecanics, except feelings don't have finite rules.
one fact for you, they tested all the enterants for Oxford Uni in the UK one year, and found that somewhere in the reagon of 75% had an "autistic spectrum disorder", and I would be interested to see about how many people on/. do too. maybe we could do an experiment some time.
anybody interested in more info, email me or message me on gmail (badspyro@)
I'm afraid something similar to that almost happened.
in the moscow olympics, they almost decided to let the swimmers swim without a costume, as that was the way the designers were going.
before this happened though, most swim suits were made out of an extra fine silk, that when wet, made bettter viewing than that of a wet t-shirt. They combated that by brightly coulouring the suits and putting on fancy designs.
its amazing what you learn in textiles and from reading Swimsuit design books...
not all of ous are like that, but quite a number of us can be very abrupt, as all the empathy we have is learnt empathy, which is far harder to gain, and many of us also have no tact what so ever.
I, presonaly, used to be the same, and it took me a loooong time to improve, and some would say I'm still not there.
It's not simple at all.
I second the previous post, as I too have aspergers, and have struggled with this kind of thing for the majority of my life, so as far as I'm concerned, WOO WHOOO!!!!
for any of you interested in finding out more, check out the aspies for freedom website
Yes, I do!
nothing better than sandles.
am thinking of getting a pink wig from cradlefalls.tk too, after all the jesus comments.
maybe then they will come up with something inventive... (or maybe just shut up!)
I thought the entire idea of being smart was that you were smart enough not to care about dress sence or such?
oh, well...
Some of us, even when we were 15 cared more about what the government was doing than the majority of adults, certanly here in the UK!
I spend a lot of time trying to get people go give a f*** about what the government are doing, or to rty and do something about it, and they just don't care.
I took my mum to and underground bookshop place yesterday, and she thought it was too "contravertial" for her, even though thease are the exact people fighting for HER rights.
and adults say we don't understand

Hi,
Sadly, I'm olny 17, so I have (allas) only ever realy experienced Windoze and OSX at collage, although there are a fiew things that the students use in Windoze to their advantage....
I learnt infinite patents when all our family had as a computer wasa 10 yr old Pentium 2 running XP. You soon learn that there is nothing you can do. no tricks to stop it crashing, just sit and PRAY. Now I have a P4, and it still crashes as often. Shows its not the hardware at least...
Yes, they can in the US. It was all done very quietly, but I know some inside men, and all the new mobile phones in the US can be whached by the big bad state.
I know because I know of the guys selling the kit to the phone companys to do it, and that was over 2 yrs ago now. nobody is safe from it (except if you use a GPS blocker).
I think my idea for a fradey cage in my bedroom with a mesh of about 4/5 of an inch (or 2cm for us brits and non imperial people), as they are going to put up a phone mast outside my house and my mum didn't tell me... well, it should stop the GPS now as well!
Well, soz to dissapoint all the bosses of the music industry at RIAA HQ (on the dark side of the mountain, past the lake of running acid, the erupting volcanos and the syrens with a bad voice known as atomic kittens), but Jobs has already laughed this one out not going to happen sorry NO I'M NOT! MWA HA HA HA! JOB'S RULES!
I have herd that larger corps licences (i.e. for someone like Unilever) cost around £25 or less.
home users realy are ripped off

I'm sory to say, Madden is sold here in large numbers, and is popular in many other countrys due to the american influence through TV.
It goes on things like:
