    Yeah, I beat Megaman. Long time ago. I'm not really sure how you beat Yoshi (yes, the puzzle game with falling enemies and eggshell parts). I just figured it was like Tetris.

    Hey, be fair. I'm in my 20s, and I remember playing all of those games. My local laundromat had a Pac-man and a Space Invaders machine. Man, I sank a lot of quarters into those things. Wish that laundromat was still there. :(

    My grandparents own a handheld Donkey Kong game from who knows what year (even I can't remember). It's a big, bulky thing, it looks like a big wedge of cheese (30 degree angle) on its side, with a joystick and a button. Man, I loved that thing.

    I hear ya! Here's a story along those lines. A few years back, I was sitting out on my front porch playing The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on my original Game Boy (yes, it still works, God bless it). Some local kids were roving around in the street on their bikes. One of them saw me sitting there playing what appeared to be a handheld game of some sort, so they approached and asked what I was playing. I told them. They'd never heard of it. They also wanted to know what the strange, bulky handheld system I was using was, and where I got it. I told them. They laughed, and called me a liar right to my face. "That's not a Gameboy!", Kid One said. "This is!" Kid One pulled out a Gameboy Advance (I noted with amusement that a Pokemon cartridge was stuck in it).

    I went on to explain that the Gameboy originated in 1989. They didn't believe me. I said, "Wait here." Went inside, got my Gameboy case and all my games (not very many: Zelda, Tetris, Yoshi, Megaman...just the essentials to keep me amused during roadtrips as a child). They were in shock.

    Imagine the looks on their faces when I went on to show them a few of my Tiger handhelds. ;)

    ....wow, a Sega game amongst the "classics" list? Those are maybe the "modern" classics. I'd say the real classics are as follows:

    • Pong
    • Pac-man
    • Donkey Kong
    • Asteroids
    • Space Invaders
    At least, those were the most popular as I remember them. And that doesn't dig into like, Colecovision and whatnot. I could mention Adventure!, Pitfall, and several others. And with the exception of Pong, I still love all of them.

    No, I get what you're saying, but I haven't run into a game yet that needed more than 1 GB of RAM to function at 100%. More important would be the the RAM modules on the video card itself.

    As for video editing, bring on the memory. You can never have enough.

    What I don't get is why everyone seems to think that systems should be OCed just for the sake of being OCed. Seriously. I'm running an Athlon64 X2 3800 with 1GB PC3200 and a GeForce 6800GS. Thus far, it's laughed at every game I've thrown at it. It does video editing reasonably well (again, limited by it's memory). And I haven't even considered OCing it. I mean, why would I? It doesn't need it, so why should I reduce the lifespan of my hardware and generate more heat? I just don't understand why some people see a perfectly good stock system, and the first thing they think is "0MG 0VERCL0CK L0L!!1!!111!!"

    I don't know. I guess "overclock" is just a buzzword for wannabe techies. It sells, I guess. For some amusement, though, try explaining the concept of "underclocking" to one of these guys. Their reactions are priceless.

    Next thing you know, there'll be rumors flying around about how you can listen to the music in every one of Blizzard's games by plugging Bliz's *.mpq files into the Qtrax player.

    FTFA: At one stage, I turned to eBay (EBAY) to buy a used PowerBook G3 with OS 8.1 installed, just so I could play Mac C&C.

    So THIS is the guy that ended up with the P-P-Powerbook!

    I'll bet it still managed to run C&C, though....

    This seems to be a double-edged sword though. Unless I'm looking at this wrong, doesn't this also prevent the little guys from gaining an advantage on the "playground bully," as it were? Maybe that's the point, though.

    Dump 19 generic mana and remaining 1 green mana into Fireball.
    Burninate opponent for 20.

    The Modern Turn 1 Kill

    Turn 1: Swamp.
    Tap swamp, cast 3 Dark Rituals.
    Cast Nether Shadow (1/1, haste).
    Cast Hatred, sac 19 life to give Nether Shadow +19/+0.

    Really? I thought this was the next project. The i-levator.

    And there was nothing wrong with it. The doors getting stuck were part of their "Think Different" design. I mean, everyone has elevators with doors that open!

    Plus, I hear it's not actually a glass elevator...the walls were considered an "optional, non-essential" component that had to be purchased seperately.

    It's sad to see that the term "gamer" no longer has any meaning in an actually gaming context. With maybe the exception of the Dragon, not one of those cases is suitable for true gaming, and there's a very good reason for that...they simply aren't easily portable. Yes, the Dragon did appear to have a handle of sorts on the top, which might make it easier to lug it around, but the others had nothing going for them. Unfortunately, people respond well to shiny, expensive things. How, precisely, is a case supposed to be suitable for gaming if you can't easily take it to LAN parties?

    Let me throw another case into the mix: Aspire Q-Pack

    Now THIS is a gaming case. Don't let the MicroATX form factor fool you. This case serves me well as my personal gaming machine, and it is quite the beast. It's very portable, has a simple, non-complex temperature monitor built into the front, and yes...plenty of windows for those of you that need shiny stuff to stare at. The provided PSU has given me no grief thus far. Frontal USB 2.0 and audio are a giant plus. The only drawback I've seen so far is that it only comes with 1 fan slot (a 120mm in the back, over the CPU mount). But it was a fairly simple matter to mod in another 120mm fan on the side. And let me tell you, one intake 120mm and one exhaust 120mm has kept that case incredibly cool. It's not hard at all to move fresh air through that case, given it's small size.

    A lot of the Newegg reviews cite that the handle on the case is flimsy. Don't listen to them. It's rock solid. I trust this case with my best hardware, and I've never once been afraid of the handle breaking.

    You know, it's funny, but I seem to recall mentioning that judicial precident is what matters in this case. And let me point out once again the major point of my argument, which you seem to have completely missed. I'll use your example:

    No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

    Last I checked, the public school system had not the authority to make laws. You're right, though. The "Nationalization fo the Constitution" did force the states to uphold many federal laws. Problem being is that the burden of maintaining the public education system is no longer on the shoulders of the state governments.

    Don't mistake my argument for agreeing with the school's decision. I think it's ridiculous that any school should meddle in the personal affairs of its students. But to blindly point to the Constitution and scream "OMG 1ST AMENDMENT LOL!!!1!111!!" every time this same issue comes back up is just ignorant.

    I think this mentality is a byproduct of the public school system being placed under the federal government's jurisdiction. It should be returned to the state governments.

    Thank you very much for saving me a few minutes of typing. This is a very accurate description of what the semantic web is intended to be. I thought for a minute that I was actually gonna have to dig up that buried knowledge from college, when I actually took a class based on the principles of the semantic web. Our final project was a website (using our own personally created ontology) that searched a database of Magic: The Gathering cards and could infer from even the most rudimentary search query which card(s) you were looking for with a surprisingly high success rate.

    Sigh......no, they are not. Read the 1st Amendment one more time (since there have been plenty issues on /. of this nature before):

    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    I think I've made the important part perfectly clear. Government institution or not, public schools are not bound by the 1st amendment when it comes to deciding what is a punishable offense and what is freedom of speech. There are, however, several judicial precidents regarding how long the arm of the school can get. I believe it was posted somewhere else under this topic, but here it is again: Tinker vs. Des Moines and others

    Wow.....I wish I could see the world of software development through your eyes. In my experience, you're lucky to have "all bugs" worked out ever. Perhaps you meant all "known" bugs? If that be the case, we're all well aware of how prompt Microsoft is about fixing known bugs.

    Besides, in this case, I don't think they'll ever get all the bugs worked out. There's still a major one they have yet to address. It's called Vista.
