Unfortunately in this instance, the toll roads in California WERE built by a private company. They were built with all sorts of loans and incentives from the state, but it was a private company that put them in place. The Transportation Corridor Agencies is a collective group of private investors and construction companies that built and now run the toll-roads.

I say give them all the drugs they want. I want my athletes like Nintendo game characters! Who cares what happens to them after they retire. They live for the game anyway, once they retire they always complain about how dead their lives are - so let them burn themselves out with the drugs. Everyone's happy!
Is he even really a threat to society beyond living as an example of someone who murdered their wife?
I would argue - YES. He is a threat. Anyone that can violate our most basic law (don't kill another human) is a threat. I don't care who he killed and the only circumstance that I would give a killer a break in - is in self defense.
I'm not saying that I think he needs to be granted a laptop and made useful. I'm just saying that he IS a proven threat to society in that he killed another human being. If you think rehabilitation works and that giving him a laptop is the way to go - then great. I just want him removed from society so he can't snap and kill someone else.
Personally, I think that anyone who can/does kill someone else is a permanent threat to society. YMMV.
Another vote for Mobipocket. I'm running it on my Blackberry and have a good 20 books with me at any one time. Quite lovely!
I really hope Mobipocket makes a reader for the iPhone - then I'll be set!
I know that this is the geekiest thing out there... but I was impressed with the actual tech specs of the projector and all of the connection options. Still a little on the pricey side ($2900), but I LOVE all of the remote control options. And how cool is it that it's your own little RC robot as well?!?!
I have to build machines occasionally and I haven't slipstreamed all the hotfixes into my WinXP cd - so just to be able to install it without having to download 70 patches and reboot forever... PRICELESS!
Is anybody else as sick of this as I am? I've been an email architect/administrator for over seven years. This has been talked to death over and over and over ad nauseum.
Every couple of years we get some freak-out article - "Oh NOES! Admins have access to our data!"
Shut the FUCK UP!
Of course we have access to your data. We're SYSADMINS! God I'm tired of hearing this crap.
Maybe I've just gotten old and bitter, but I'm tired of hearing the n00bs in the office/exec/admin circles all upset about this.
You sure don't mind if I access your mailbox when you have a problem, now do you Luser?
Magritte is known for reusing certain imagery in his paintings. Apples, bowler hats, clouds, pipes, doves, all are common themes in his paintings. Linky:
Of course it was "forced to a formula". Lucas talks in several interviews and the commentary track about how he was thematically reusing a lot of the same story elements. He likened it to an opera that replays the main music theme subtly (or not so subtly) altered throughout the course of the whole presentation. (e.g. Anakin losing his hand as a repeat element from EpV with Luke losing his hand)
There's a reason that everyone is "sensitive" to harassment issues. In a large company environment it is all too easy to be accused by someone (male or female) for political gain.
It only takes ONE accusation to setoff the HR investigation. Your reputation is pretty much shot within the company after that. It doesn't even matter what the resolution of the complaint turns out to be. It's on your personnel record and any manager within the company can view it (if you're trying to move to a different department within the company). Forget about raises. It is a big dark stain on you. Period. Can you say, "Blackballed"?
Trust me. I know because I was accused of harassment at a VERY large pharma company (currently number 1 in sales, you figure it out) for sarcastically calling a woman "sweetheart" in a smarmy put-down. The woman was an idiot and I called her on a false statement. I should have been "politically correct" and just let it go. But I was tired of her BS.
That one comment pissed her off and she accused me of sexual harassment. I spent the next two months dealing with management "interviews" and HR wrangling. I was exonerated from the "charge" but I was definitely persona-non-grata after that.
So go ahead and be chummy with your co-workers all you want. As for me... I'm strictly work/professional and politically correct.
While I agree with everything else in your post, I do have to take exception to the statement:
"We'll have no terrorism is there is no reason for terrorists to terrorize us in the first place."
I think you misunderstand the mindset of the folks that are attacking. They hate the US. It's clear in every statement. Removing our troops would lessen the immediate anger and likely result in less terrorist incidents, but it will NOT eliminate terrorism against the US (and "allies in the War on Terror").

Truly your intellect is dizzying.

Not to downplay the joke, but I guarantee it's based on WinPE.

But this is exactly the time when I need +1 nerdy-to-the-point-of-unintentionally-funny mod.
Damn these slashdot restrictions!!

Fixed that for you.

Yeah, yeah... I know... M$oft suczors and all that.
Sheesh...all that whining and hand wringing for nothing.
As a friend of mine at work said, "Do no evil. My ass!"
Dude, these things eat WHALES. Do you really think we've got any protective gear that would stand up to that???

I've been down that path too many times. Dang it. Too many times.
You're not the only one.

Dammit! Where's my tinfoil hat?!?! Nostradamus save me! It sounds too real not to be true.
Salute... wait, you knew that already. Didn't you?
