  1. Re:Get Informed on Is An Uninformed Vote Better Than No Vote? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I can't tell you how many times my Grandmother has gotten things done simply by doing this.

One example of this was when she wrote about how the state patched the roads poorly. Around here, they only do a strip along the shoulder to try to level the road. They skip spots now and then and when it's done poorly it tends to wear on the right suspension more than your left. She drives this road on a regular basis (to and from town) and rarely travels any other roads. She wrote a letter, included a copy of the repair bill for her car and kindly asked for the road to be fixed. She explicitly stated she didn't want them to pay for her car, but included the bill so they could see how much it cost her. Less than one month later, they repaved the entire road from the corner past her house all the way into town. It desperately needed repaired, so it wasn't really a "waste" of tax dollars (except for the fact that some idiot got paid to do a poor job in the first place.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it just me or are "hybrid" kids usually much better looking (or is it much more interesting looking). This would point me to believe that through selection of "prettier" people, you are actually working toward a world of mixed races with fewer defects. This is backed by the thought of inbreading and the socially restrictive places in the world where you only ever see the offspring of a few genetic makeups. You don't have the genetic experimentation that a more social community has, but you get kids with more genetic defects (ie: webbed toes). So theoretically, if you inbred humans, you may actually produce far more interesting species.

It goes back to the evolutionary theory. If you have a pond full of tadpoles and they never mate outside that pool, your going to get mutation that may or may not result in a "better" line. You might develop a leg to push you out of the pond per say.

By only mating with those of your same line, you are promoting a change in the species, but never perfecting it.

  16. Re:Woohoo! Hold those parents accountable! on School Official Sues Over MySpace Page · · Score: 1

But in regard to that, people should not force their ideals on kids that are not their own. Sure, you can exclude said kid from any activity you are running, but to tell some kid he needs to go to church and pray to God would be wrong. There are too many laws and "controlling" parents out there now that try to force these opinions on kids. As a parent, you are to instill the knowledge of what you think proper moral code is (as long as it jibes with local laws) and educate the kid that people have different opinions. It feels like kids are being pushed to be exact clones of someone's "ideal" child.

I'm not arguing against your point, but parents should be the primary responsible party in a kids life. If the kid does something wrong, the parent of the kid should be 90% of the focus. In today's world we try to blame everything else first. If you find out your kid is listening to music that you don't like, sit them down and let them know how you feel about it. Don't blame the music.

I actually switched to be able to extend Firefox to do multiple things (including adBlock on page). The tabbed browsing was a major plus and I can't go back to non-tabbed. I also enjoy finding out how many "non-standard" websites are out there. Luckily, I have the IETab extension that lets you open IE browse sessions in a tab in Firefox. I can't say I joined up because it was "the cool thing to do", but I saw a feature set that interested me.

I have not had this memory leak everyone talks about, and it still loads blazingly fast on my machine. It makes me wonder if these people experiencing the leaks and slow loads have a particular extension or group of extensions that might be doing this instead of FF?

And yes, I did do Web Development when I switched and I can't stand looking at code or logic that thinks that IE is the major browser. Mostly due to the fact that it's easier to code W3C standard and adapt it for IE than vice versa. This is strictly my opinion though, just as your post was yours.
