PS2 is absolutely 100% compatible with PS. And PS3 will be absolutely 100% campatible with PS2 and PS. Another example? Gameboy Advance is completely compatible with old Gameboy games, and the Nintendo DS, while it's compatibility is limited to GBA games, it still plays every GBA game perfectly. So, if you want backwards compatibility, then don't buy a 360.
I won't say that you didn't make good points, AC, but when I said "cross-language" I really meant that you can communicate with people from an entirely different language. WoW has no translator, and it never will. It is not global because while everyone around the world might play, you cannot communicate effectively with those people, so it makes no difference anyway. You could translate the game into freaking Latin, but there's nothing impressive about it unless you had an English-to-Latin translator.
Good job, AC, you managed to defend World of Warcraft without sounding like a fanboy... not.
The right condones deregulation of the economy as far as government is concerned. The left condones regulating the economy with government power. If the Japanese government wanted to regulate sales, then that qualifies it as "left wing."
You, sir, are an ignorant WoW fanboy. Your response is -exactly- typical of retarded FFXI bashers.
And exactly what do you have against Japanese people? Are you some kind of bigot? I can communicate with them just fine. In fact, I find the exchange rather enjoyable. It sure as hell beats talking to little 13 year olds on WoW who spam "n e 1 wan 2 dual me? lolz" I swear to God that Blizzard must've gathered the stupidest people on the planet and gave them free copies of WoW and said "Go forth, little fanboys, and taint this perfectly good game with your immaturity and lack of grammatical or typing skills."
About latency? FFXI's servers are FAR, FAR more stable than WoW's. Besides that time almost a year ago when SE was having DDoS attacks from China (you can also thank them for most of your 6 million WoW subscribers, by the way), I have never been disconnected or had any problems unless it was on my end. I'd rather be having a 200-500ms ping and always be guarenteed a connection than have WoW ping and -still- see people warping around like they were on dial-up. I'm not even mentioning the queue problem.
FFXI is cross-nation, cross-platform, and cross-language. WoW doesn't even come close to that versatility. Maybe that's why FFXI is thought of first when one thinks "global MMO." Because all I can think about when I think about WoW are stupid fanboys.
...Gives you pause? It should enrage you beyond control! And if she gets elected, you should grab your gun and...
Wait a minute, you're a democrat. Nevermind.;)
I believe in a previous slashdot article, it stated that the porn industry would be supporting blu-ray.
If it's anything like Betamax/VHS, then HD-DVD will be pushing up daisies.
I've noticed that lately there has been a trend among/.ers.
1. Pick an evil corporation that is making billions of dollars.
2. Hate evil corporation! Say bad things about it and refuse to acknowledge any good aspects it may have!

4. Profit!
Guess what? It's possible to like all the consoles for different reasons! *Gasp!* You don't have to take sides at all! Sony isn't better than Microsoft, and vice versa. They're both companies, and it is their job to make their stockholders happy by increasing profits. Of course, the Xbox is seeming to make Microsoft LOSE money, but that's another story.
Anyway, Microsoft's Xbox Live service has many good aspects, and Sony recognizes this. They decided NOT to include an online service with the PS2 because back then they saw no need for it, but the fact is they thought about it. Now that they've seen that a centralized online service is not only feasible but also desirable, they are creating one as well. So, enough of this talk about "OMG they copied xbox! Xbox rules $ony sucks! [insert comment about rootkit or DRM]! LOLz" They contemplated a centralized online service long before Xbox live existed.
At any rate, I am interested in how Sony's online service will debut (provided it even exists). While I personally favor the PS3 to win the next-gen console war, I recognize that the 360 will have had a year-long headstart, along with a well-established online service, and that will be very dangerous footing for Sony. If they can't convince people that the PS3 will surpass the 360, then they will probably even lose to the Revolution (which, seeing the way things are going now, might win the console conflict yet). It won't be a dull war this time around, that's for certain.
The result will be Sony fanbois buy a few of them up, but most Middle-America families on a budget will go with the 360 that has a larger selection of games, online play, and half the price.
Are you stupid? Maybe some kids who only play sports games will buy the 360. Because that's all that I see on the Wal-Mart shelves. More bull-crap 50 dollar games that only have a couple months before they end up in the $20 bin.
The PS3 will be released at a minimum of twice the price of the 360 ($250 vs >$500) and will be going against Halo 3.
Am I the only one who got sick of Halo? It's an over-rated FPS. Not to say that it isn't fun, but basically, it's the only thing that MS can promise Xbox 360 owners. Just wait a litte longer, kiddies, we'll give you more Halo!
I don't know where you got your facts, but the 360 isn't doing as well as Microsoft had hoped. They failed to meet the sales they thought they would, it is filled with bugs, and it is utterly failing in Japan. The fact is, we don't know how the console wars are going to turn out yet. Once the Revolution and the PS3 debut, we'll find out who's on top.

You would think that fanboys would be disheartened by the fact that, well, the Xbox kind of blew. You would think that a console that maxed itself out in a year compared to the still improving yet considerably older PS2 would lose its fanbase. But no - they just keep chugging along, proudly displaying their white and green flag, singing the same old song. They once said that the Xbox was better than the PS2 because it had better specs. Now, since the PS3 will debut with superior specs - that the 360 is better because, well, they have Xbox Live!
Microsoft has proven to us that they can't be trusted as a console manufacturer, much like Sega did. Who cares if the Dreamcast was good? They blew it too many times in the past with the lackluster game gear, Sega CD and 32x add-ons, and Saturn (Master System and Genesis were relative successes). These consoles had some REAL potential, and yet, each console failed after about a year or two after release. Now look where Sega is - producing games.
While Sony has made some silly decisions, each of their entries into the console world were pretty much complete successes, the PSP to a lesser extent due to its short time on the market and high cost. PS1 crushed the N64, and the PS2 crushed both the Gamecube and the Xbox, much to Microsoft's surprise. See a pattern here? People are ALREADY fed up with MS, and they haven't even been in the game very long. Their only claim to fame is the Live service, which is admittedly a good thing. Too bad they don't have (hardly) any good games to play online to begin with.
Many people shrug off FFXI as a dead or dying MMO, but Square is soon to be releasing a new expansion for the game, which includes the popular old-school FF figure, the Blue Mage.
Square would not be releasing a new expansion for a dying game. Certainly, it is more successful in Japan than in America, but just because an over-rated MMO came along and snatched up a large number of MMORPG players doesn't mean that the game has died. There is a good storyline and an immersive world, and a lot of room for expansion.
I predict that we will be seeing a lot more of FFXI. You can probably expect to see a port of it for the PS3, which will be more successful than the PS2 version of the game. I personally own the PS2 HDD and FFXI, and I know several others who do as well. With a more "standard" hard drive, unlike the PS2's hdd, FFXI for the PS3 and 360 will see much more success.
Any game, no matter what genre or style, which forces the gamer to think and act quickly is going to increase one's ability to think quicker, if not actually make the gamer more intelligent. In strategy games, they force a problem on you, and you must take a course of action to solve it.
An excellent example is Chess. I doubt there are many out there that will tell you that Chess will make you dumber if you play it.
This sounds very similar to the Soul Calibur III bug, in which data might become corrupted and you lose not only your SC3 data, but quite possibly everything on your memory card as well.
It leads one to ponder... why can't they discover these problems -before- the game is released?
My wife play video games, just as much as I do (We're both 19 and 20). We own all the current generation systems. We both play FPS, fighters, RPGs, MMORPGs, etc. If you suggested "girlier" games like puzzles and cutesier platformers, she would look at you in disgust and say "I play REAL games."
I think it is pointless to attempt to appeal to the non-gaming female crowd. Most of the moms I know refuse to buy a game system for their kids if it has violent games on it. If you dumb down games and make them cutesy, you're going to risk losing your hardcore crowd of REAL gamers. And if you make cute little puzzle or platform games, there's no guarentee that the demographic you're aiming for will buy into it. There's really no pleasing everyone, so why jeapordize your integrity to try?
Besides, Nintendo has already monopolized on cute and quirky games.
You miss the days?

I believe that Xfire accomplishes the tastk of an in-game messenger that can used not only during WoW, but virtually any other PC game under the sun.
