  11. Too many buttons on Is the Xbox 360 Really Mom Friendly? · · Score: 1

Sorry to disappoint, but the learning curve for today's generation of games, especially if you hadn't been keeping up with the gradual build-up (each generation having more action buttons than the last), is too much for your typical mom. They're more likely to throw the controller down in frustration because they can't grasp how to use it. I know many smart older people who said they tried playing an Xbox, only to give up because of all the buttons.

That's where the Wii will come in. Hardly any buttons to worry about there. I wager you'll see moms slashing and swiping at television screens with the wii-mote more than you'll see them playing a sports game on either the 360 or PS3.

I'm not saying that all moms won't be able to play the 360, but the majority of them have no love for gaming, or any interest to start gaming. If anything changes that, it'll be the Wii, not the 360.

Eventually, the WoW bubble will pop. People are reaching end-game and running out of things to do. Maybe not anytime soon, but in the next year or two the numbers will begin to drop.

Super Smash Brothers Melee became a greatest hits game, and only dropped to $30 as opposed to $20. I believe it has now dropped to $20, but for a while, though considered a "Player's Choice" game by Nintendo, they kept the price up because they knew (most) people with gamecubes would buy it.

Yes, it was an over-generalization on my part.

So, if this came up as a vote for the Oklahoma people to decide... well, I'm sure it would pass by an overwhelming majority, a majority who wouldn't have even bothered to read the law. They would see "no violent video games" and check "Yes!"

City of Heroes/Villains has TERRIBLE mapserver disconnects... it was far worse than any problems I ever had with WoW. I'm talking being disconnected every 20-30 minutes for seemingly no reason, though I suspect the game didn't like my ping (I've heard cable modems have comparably high latency). The most stable game I've played has been FFXI. Honestly though, and this is coming from someone who played WoW about 5-6 months ago, I didn't really have much trouble with it. Sure, there were a few times, but (for me) the vast majority of the time was smooth sailing. Maybe it's because I was in a low-population server or I didn't play at the right times, but WoW didn't give me problems.

A PS3 port for FFXI is necessary because, while the PS3 can play PS2 games, the PS2 version has severe graphical limitations. With the PS3, you could put the graphics back on par with the 360 and PC versions, and actually make it look nice on an HDTV (FFXI on PS2 on my HD looks really blocky).

It might interest some people who think that this game is "dying" to know that the new expansion has (in my area) completely sold out in every store, forcing me to possibly buy it online and wait to get it shipped. Everyone complains about the console wars one way or the other: M$ is greedy, $ony $ucks, Revolution controller is dumb, etc. But as for myself and a few other people I know, we've already made our decision.

Whatever console has the best games, we're going to buy.

I've made this statement before, and I'll make it again: whichever console has the best/most RPGs wins. That single statement has been true for the past 4 console wars (NES won, SNES won, PS won, PS2 won. All of them had more RPGs than the competing systems; granted, that's not to say that the other systems didn't have good games or good RPGs, but the opposing system simply had more). I'm willing to bet that the 360 has no RPGs to speak of (Oblivion doesn't count), and therefore I'm not going to buy it. Now, that of course is my own opinion and personal experience, but I'm not the only one who feels this way. Mark my words: whichever console has the most and/or best RPGs WILL win. Four other systems can't be wrong.

And just as an after-thought, 360s are currently sitting on my local Wal-Mart and Hastings shelves gathering dust.

It is entirely feasible to have not just many games, but many good games. Because if you flood the market with nothing but crap, that's how consumers are going to remember you: "Oh yeah, that console has nothing but crummy sports games."

What Nintendo really needs is to get strong 3rd party support. They had a lot of problems with that in the past and if they want to survive the next-gen war, cool controller or not, they NEED more 3rd party developers working with them.

The Sega Genesis had a much faster CPU than the SNES (the CPU could do 3.78 MHz, that's half of what the Genesis could do), but in terms of graphics and sound, the SNES could mop the floor with the Genesis. Not to mention that all the really good games (RPGs) came out for SNES.* Also, when a game would come out for both systems, the SNES one almost always looked better.

That being said, Genesis did extremely well, and I while I prefer the SNES to the Genesis, I cannot argue their success.

    * - I'm not counting the Sega CD, which released some of my favorite RPGs of all time, just the core Genesis system.
