    Gentoo is not necessarly 'bleeding edge'. You can use basic CFLAGS and use x86 instead of ~x86 as your ARCH...

    Who can remember picking up a beetle with like 3 other people and moving it? They weigh nothing. Try going over it in like a Ford F350 dually and ill be more impressed......

    ...and I would have to agree that the quality of the show went down. I went on Wednesday, the second day, and it seemed the people there were all pissed off. I just went as a linux enthuiast. There seemed to be much more crack headed salesmen and woman than usual. There was this guy from Motorola who was showing off the phone they made that has linux and they had a DDRish game running off of it and he was going up to everyone jumping around like he was on coke begging them to play. There seemed much less of just nice people there, although I have to say the Splunk people wre cool (stayed there and t alked with them for a bit) and the gnome people and a few others. But in general people were less 'nice' and shit. I was quite impressed with the SUSE Enterprise Linux that the suse guy showed me. He was one of the few 'cool' people whom I chatted up for a bit.
     



    In all, was still worth it, just wasent as fun as it was in previous years.

    I have been blocking outgoing standard IRC ports for years as well on my home network, 6660-6669, 31337, and 5555 at least. I know a bot or person can connect on any port but my blocks have worked in the past. Am I wasting my time?

    Yes. Although stupid botnet 'herders' may have their botnet ircds listening on the default port (6667), anyone who is even a half wit is smart enough to change that to something utterly random.

    Besides, why block IRC - IRC is so fun :)

Besides, why use a annon proxy? Who knows, it could be a honey pot or someone just running a packet sniffer. Bad idea to use anon proxies. Rather, order a unix shell from a hosting co (mines on a friends 100mbit server), and run a proxy from there. Its fast, and your privacy is protected :)

    I dont think thats what people are saying, what people are saying is that they just do not like Windows. I dont personally, but I will admit that Vista is pretty - but thats all it has going for it.

    e And that KDE theme, has nice window decorations, but thats it - I like my xfce more :)

    Sure they can look threw my files, assuming they are proficient with gnu user land tools, lol. Besides, if asked I would log them on to something where no real data is stored, such as my ircd account with all of my irc servers.

    For some reason I highly doubt the customs people would know how to use my laptop, as first, they would need to get past BIOS password. Second, they would need user password. Then they would be at a nice console. Have a nice day :)

    The Debian project confirms December 2006 as the date for the next release of its distribution [CC] which will be named Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias 'etch'. This will be the first official release to include the AMD64 architecture.
    dark-br writes to tell us TechWorld is reporting that the next Debian release will be able to run native on AMD64 [CC] processors for the first time. From the article: "The GNU/Linux 4.0 operating system, also known as "Etch," is planned for release in December, the group said. It will also have new security features, including encryption and digital signatures to ensure that downloaded packages are validated."
