Would you want the same person in charge if it happens again? Do you think the same person could prevent it from happening again?
Good questions, but incomplete. The question is whether Kerry would represent an improvement on those fronts, as he is the only realistic alternative to W. I'm not a fan of the current prez, but Kerry is a whoppingly poor candidate who is hard to pin down on any issue. This will be my 5th presidential election to vote in, and I couldn't be more disappointed with the choices!
Both opinions are pretty worthless, assuming that the first person voted a straight Disney ticket; after all, there's more than just the presidency at stake. Now, if they throw in some Warner Brothers (Senator Foghorn Leghorn sounds good to me), that's another story...
Oh you can certainly complain if you don't vote, but it undermines your credibility. Why should anyone care about the political opinion of someone who can't even be bothered to vote?
For some, perhaps - my current desktop, purchased over a year ago, doesn't have a floppy, nor does my work laptop or my Tablet PC, and I haven't missed it yet. That's well over a year of everyday use in a variety of settings, without ever needing a floppy...
Income distribution is a tricky thing to measure, but when costs are lowered in a corporation, obviously the shareholders gain. The first thing to note there is that stock ownership is becoming more widespread every day, thanks to increasing participation in 401K and other workplace savings programs. It has become easier and easier for Joe Sixpack to participate in these kinds of gains.
Also, however, there are savings to the consumer. Look at the gadgets and gizmos that are commonplace in most US homes these days (PC's, DVD's, cell phones, a zillion cable/satellite channels) and I have a hard time saying things are tougher than they were in decades past. While there is always something to complain about (rising health care costs, for example), most people fail to recognize the progress that an economy makes over the course of time...
Unemployment rates really aren't that bad (under 6%), and improving productivity (doing the same work with less people) is a net positive for the economy. Those tax dollars could be put to better use, i.e. infrastructure maintenance, social services, tax cuts.
Over the long term, increasing productivity is the strongest factor in determining a country's overall wealth.
You'd think they would have instead used one of the all-time classic computer games instead. Yes, it has drawn elements from prior games, but the depth, creativity, and endless playability of Nethack makes it stand out whether considering open or closed-source games...
After saying that Linux doesn't exist, O'Shaughnessy then ran around the room with his fingers in his ears, yelling "lalalalalalalalalalalala... I can't hear you!"
Afterwards, he went on to discuss SCO's legal strategy of, "I am rubber, you are glue, what bounces off me sticks to you".
I'm sure they will, and based on Microsoft's new venture with Fiat, we can guess how good they'll be! Instead of installing malware by dragging the scrollbar, merely lowering the windows will let the bugs in (both literally and figuratively)...
Remember that we need to put this in terms that not just the average PC user, but most of the sub-average ones, will understand. Perhaps a car metaphor, such as a "driving around" mode for general use, and an "under the hood" mode that relates to Administrator priveleges...
With tobacco, the interesting part is the "choice" involved. Personally, I don't have a problem with the fact that cigarettes are harmful to one's health, but rather the addictive power of nicotine. That's a legitimate avenue to pursue, in my opinion, as opposed to the ridiculous restrictions on advertising and other means by which government is trying to eliminate smoking.
You would have to hide in a cave to avoid a story like this - it's already on CNN and (presumably) a zillion other news outlets...

Serious damage and Slashdot karma just don't belong in the same sentence...

Hey, for most gamers, that's probably the best offer they've had in years!
not that I was ever a gamer at all, no, not at all...
It's a friggin' joke, ya pointy-eared, green blooded freak...
How's about "Cold Fusion warmed over" instead?
see... it is a cover-up!!!

If anything, the cap gives both parties a point at which they can simply throw in the towel and pretend they're saving some face...

Wow, that's quite a lot of nonsense thrown into one tiny post. Care to elaborate as to how supply-side economics relates to these reports?
Or are you just venting since the GOP convention is going on now...
Many around here think Microsoft has been a big pile of Number Two for quite a while now...
Then you need to sell on Thinkgeek, that seems to work...
Forget that, just imagine what you could with porn on a big screen like that!
Oh, I guess they've done that already...

The internet may well go down, but AOL will be OK, right???
And can you explain just why you seem to know so much about this show???
Guards!!!
Maybe so, but at least when it's time to part ways, she doesn't get the house, the car, the kids...
yeah, we're getting offtopic, but...
