You didnt watch those messages while you were installing windows, did you?
Windows runs hot
Now, with this latest version of Microsoft's Windows Operating system, save money on your gas bill. Our team of engineers has developed new ActiveX components that allow your computer to produce additional heat. By increasing the temperature of your CPU, your energy costs are cut by about 13%. We've also made it look like Windows is doing more.
I still can't understand why people always are interpreting Microsoft's features as bugs. Doesnt anyone realize that they only care about the consumer?
This is great news! When this is in full force, grammar nazis will be worthless. Anyone who uses english incorrectly will blue screen before clicking submit.
There are two huge concerns in a typical data center enviornment: Heat and Power. These two areas are key because of the density of servers today. We're cramming so much processing and storage into 48U that people 10 years ago couldnt have even dreamed of even existing. Delivering enough power to run 48 servers can be difficult if each server is pulling 4 amps each (thats 192 amps). Considering most circuits are 20 or 30amps, thats alot of circuits to fit in one rack.
This was always the biggest reason why Dell servers were not as popular with the companies that I have worked with. Quite simply, AMD was kicking Intel's ass with heat and power. I heard many people say they'd start ordering Dell servers by the pallet if they sold AMD processors (looks like they finally listened).
Isn't it obvious that we need to have more people betting on horses and playing inter-state lotteries? If we had more lottery balls and horses running through The Internets (TM) then we wouldnt be as slow.
I really don't understand why Microsoft doesnt just use their marketing power and explain how executing code from another machine is actually a feature. There is really no need to purchase applications such as pcAnywhere. Thank God for Microsoft saving us all that money!
Until Google does something to betray my trust, I would much rather have Google getting into these other markets than MS beating them to it. Sure, it's a concern that Google is infiltrating everything but I have this simple thought: If Google doesnt do it, someone else will and right now, I trust Google more than any other company.
Actually, Geico is one of the few companies that their ads meet the company. I have actually never found a company with greater customer service -- not to mention they are the cheapest (at least in my case).
When it comes to ads I really wish there was some kind of law that kept the ads equal to the product and service a company offers -- or better yet, why dont companies just spend their money on customer service and skip advertising all together. To me, word of mouth is so much better than any ad I have ever seen. Throw a TV commercial at me and if its good, maybe I'll enjoy it but its not going to get me to buy that product unless I ask someone else about it first.
Actually, I believe that the lack of a BSOD is a missing feature. It is internationally known that when your machine blue screens, you have no choice but to reboot. With my Windows Mobile device, it just stops... but every now and then gives me a glimer of hope that it is still alive. As a result, the lack of a BSOD feature in my cell phone wastes hours of precious time per month.
Granted, there are privacy concerns to some users but there is a huge difference between Google Desktop and Spyware Applications. From wikipedia:.....spyware refers to a broad category of malicious software designed to intercept or take partial control of a computer's operation without the informed consent of that machine's owner or legitimate user.....
Everything that Google does with Google Desktop is fully disclosed. Additionally, the concerns of Google Desktop are legitimate features that offer an experience to the user that is desired. Spyware concerns offer nothing of any benefit to the person using the infected computer.
The reason is doesnt affect grammar is because there is no option. Last time someone told me a joke in person, I wasnt really sure what to do since LOL just doesnt sound right when you say it.
Being a sysadmin, I deal with end-users. About 6 months ago I got an email that said "Bob, I forgot to save an unedited copy of this form and overwrote the file with my data. Is there a way to retrieve the old file?"... It happens and this previous version feature could be a great tool for us sysadmins if it's deployed correctly.
OTOH, I can definately understand the privacy issues -- especially if the user doesnt realize this is going on. A home user types their credit card data into a word document to save it temporarily and then deletes it when they are done with it and they think its gone, but its not.
What I dont understand is why Windows doesnt ask some of these questions on install (or on windows setup when you buy a name-brand computer and plug it in for the first time). It would seem that asking whether the user wants windows to do this for them would be a great compromise.
I was really starting to get worried that my printed works would never benefit from the powers of DRM. I'm so glad we have Sony to protect us all.
All this time I thought seeing "iad" in server host names meant it was physically located in Washington DC / Northern VA...
and an amazing 0% of Political Science students!
Actually, their results are included in another degree. Would admit to being a poli-sci student?

. . . All actions one can perform will land you in jail. Also, even those actions that you do not perform you will pay a fine or fee of some sort for.
Really... I never knew it until I moved here!

Well, at least if you are in a data center.

Us old farts (those of us over 25) just dont have the eyes that these young whipper snappers have.

Obviously you have never been here in Northern Virginia.
I've had webcams in bathr.....
Nevermind, nothing to see here.
Walt Disney apparently had this knowledge years ago. I dont think I ever saw Mickey depressed.

I have to ask... If satan is releasing windows media for linux, why is he shocked?
This is absolutely garbage journalism . . .
You must be new here

6. PROFIT!
Oh.. wait
In my opinion it's like saying I am a risk because I have arms. Potentially I could strangle someone with them
You dont take those on airlines do you?!
