    Which begs the question, why aren't the gas-saving tires much more available than they are, on both hybrids and non-hybrids?

    Gas saving tires have a lower rolling friction. That also means that along with getting better gas mileage, the also reduce the effectiveness of your brakes and reduce your ability to make emergency evasive maneuvers. Pretty shitty trade off if you ask me.

    They are available aftermarket. I checked tire rack and they have 3 choices available in the OE size for a 03 civic hybrid.

    USB and Bluetooth to serial converters are at best, a hack. Windows up through XP also does not handle them in a way that anyone familiar with could consider graceful. They may have fixed it in Vista or 7, so I will refrain from judgment there. Linux support for them is spotty, although some do work fairly well.

    I realize that in this room, defending the redneck is probably about as fruitless as pissing up a rope, but here goes. My next door neighbor is one of the biggest rednecks you will ever meet, and he will tell you the same. He works a blue collar Union job, loves NASCAR, drives a pickup truck, smokes dope, and swills more cheap beer than you can imagine. He also has been married to the same woman for 25+ years, put both his daughters through College, Worked for the same company for 20+ years and is now a shop foreman, isn't a racist, and is generally the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

    I think the pejorative most of you are looking for is "White trash"

    I doubt very seriously that it's incendiary. I would guess that it is electrical in nature. I built an anti tamper device before and used a 300v photo flash cap run down the ground rail. VERY effective. Actually blew some SMB components off of the board and set several tantalum capacitors on fire.

    Although I guess that could be considered incendiary....

    I am by no means an expert, but according to my friend who is a FBI agent, her service piece has the safety built into the trigger. So there isn't really a switch that has to be flipped.

    If you need to use a e-brake to start on a hill, then the lesson you need to learn is definitely about how to drive a manual transmission. I can't even conceive of how I would use the e-brake to start on a hill in my truck, where the e-brake pedal is on the floor and the release is under the dash.

    Actualy, I think the small town local newspaper has a decent chance of attracting pay subscriptions. There are hundereds of sites I can go to if I want to read about President Obamas state of the union address, but there aren't many places I can go to to find coverage of the Mayoral race in Annapolis Md. If I want to know the scores in the NFL, thats easy, but what happened in local High School football?

    If I put a CFL into my recycling bin, it is just as likely to end up crushed in the street as it is to end up properly disposed up. The sort of people employed to pick my trash up are not exactly careful. You aren't likely to get the average person to do much more than to put it in the correct bin.

    Disposed of properly is a bit optimistic.
