  1. Why limit these things? on Microsoft, Accenture Team Up On Blockchain-based Digital ID Network (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

"The project aims to help individuals such as refugees prove who they are in order to gain access to basic services such as education and healthcare."

Why limit these things to people who prove who they are instead of just letting everyone at all have access?

  8. But no games on Microsoft Unveils The Smallest Xbox Ever -- The Xbox One X (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

All that fuss over new hardware but not a single unveiling of a new game IP out of any Microsoft studios.

That and the lack of comparison between Xbox One and Xbox One X at their presentation leads me to believe stuff will look just as good if you don't have a 4k TV, and by 2018 only 1/8 US households will even have 4k.

Spending $500 this close to the PS5 when I find I wouldn't benefit much from PS4 Pro seems like a bad decision.

  9. People have been ignoring logos and branding for eons now, why is it suddenly a concern? I don't know what networks TV shows "belong" to and I don't know what production house makes any films I watch either... Logos and crap are automatically tuned out by most people because they're not the main content, lots of people skip credits and theme songs as well.

  10. Wouldn't that make the government vulnerable? on British PM Seeks Ban On Encryption After Terror Attack (boingboing.net) · · Score: 1

Not exactly, what I had in mind was using the video to copy a model that would persist beyond key frames and even be retrieved later on if there was a close enough match, something much less linear than current offerings

  14. Very interesting on Ask Slashdot: What Is Your View On Sloot Compression? (youtube.com) · · Score: 1

I had a similar idea to develop an algorithm that would follow through and propagate successive frames of motion in a video, first analyzing it to create certain required textures and meshes, then applying it to various meshes that would be created by tracking the individual characters, objects, and sets in a video. I always believed it could work but it's a huge undertaking.

  19. I like plenty of movies that were badly rated on Movie Studios Are Blaming Rotten Tomatoes For Killing Movies No One Wants To See (qz.com) · · Score: 1

So I don't put much stock into rotten tomatoes. I've looked up movies that I love and many have crap ratings even though I was entertained. To me if it receives a low rating I just consider it more niche and with less wide appeal. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad movie.

I've also hated plenty of movies with high ratings.

If rotten tomatoes does have an effect maybe they should blame this on something more fundamental such as lack of critical thinking and independent thinking.

That may only be secondary to their intention, Facebook does a lot of weird stuff behind the scenes to create feeds and it's not always explicit as to what is the catalyst, and it may nor be the intention of the person, and may not be understood, that by using that function it will enact some other peripheral 'features'
