It's nice to see these start getting some more attention. I've been a long fan of the works of the people over at http://www.mp3car.com/ and they use these quite extensively. Any tech savy person will love the things these people are doing. It's quite amazing. Needless to say when Im out of college this will be one of my first projects.
I can't say much about free market, but I will say that that any company that spams me is 99.9% less likely to acquire my business. Spamming is sleazy in my eyes. You can compare this to the USPS all you want, but the simple fact of the matter is that almost all spam is completely useless whereas I actually use some things I get in the mail. Not to mention the ratio of spam to actual junk mail is significantly different. I get junk mail maybe once every two or three week. I consider myself lucky only receiving 20 spam messages a day. My coworkers aren't so lucky.
Companies that direct mail ads to homes have to pay for that service and are much less likely to do so if their ads are not legitimate or will not generate a turn around in business. Spam is much more cost effective, or even free depending on the spammers computer prowess. Simply put, almost all spam is completely useless. Not to mention that spam is a gateway to all sorts of viruses and spyware.
I am connected to AIM and MSN all day every day and I have NEVER had a problem with any sort of attack. If you ask me, this falls under the same realm of thought as spyware: use caution. If the site looks/sounds the least bit untrustworthy, don't go to it. Practice safe browsing habits and you will be fine. Same goes with IM, don't accept file transfers from users you don't know. Or better yet, don't talk to users you dont know. Problem solved. I watch where I go on the internet and who I talk to and that's extremely more efficient than hoping any spyware/antivirus program will take care of it all for you. I do suppose this is pointed towards the more casual computer user, but still people, trust your instincts.
Ah yes, I remember those seminars. They put us through them when they rolled out the mind numbing 9 (or however many) step process. Basically it amounted to employees not interacting with customers and asking the same questions in the same order every time. If you ask me, that's horrible customer service. I'd rather have the employee casually talk to me than sound like a robot. Blast them...
This is definately a personal quarrel I have with BB, but I feel it is a valid one. I've worked for two different divisions of Blockbuster (at an actual store and now at the corp. office of a subsidiary of thiers) for four years total and I'd use Netflix any day. BB is an extremely deceptive company. "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain" is how they like to present their motives to employees and customers when we know we're gonna get railed ( No Late Fees? Please... who didnt see that it was a load of BS? ). Sucks that I'm in college or I'd leave in a heartbeat. Needless to say I won't work for any part of their company after I graduate. Don't be surprised if their online initiative falls through completely. I don't think they're ready for it in the least. I know they're throwing a lot of money at it, but it seems like they're rushing to catch up to the market and that's never a good thing.
Homestar Runner, Maddox, David Firth, and soundboards. I work as an IT Admin at Rhino Video Games and we have an awesome time just messing around on the forums and video sites. It helps us "bond" as a department and we feel like family. We have many inside jokes and sayings that keep us in good spirits all the time. Oh, and sure we get a lot of work done;) hah!
I'm not sure who is more reliable, but on NPR they announced he was cooperating fully with doctors. Not sure which source is more reliable. Probebly BBC as he is in fact British. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind wouldn't help the scientific community out with such a amazing event. Kind of odd to me.
We use Dell GX280's here at Rhino Video Games for our store computers and they're dropping like flies. We've already had to replace 5 motherboards just at our headquarters and now they're starting to go out company wide at the stores. Five might not sound like too much but when you're only a 100 store company it's quite a few. Needless to say when a store's main computer goes out that's not a good thing for business. Creates a lot more work and frustration for us in IT as well as for our customers.
I sent this article over to the product guys here at Rhino Video Games and it seems they sent out a memo to all of our stores, oops. Hope that doesn't generate any bad press... I typically don't have much of a problem with Microsoft as most people on here do, but when something this deceptive occurs I can't help but feel angry. Just another reason why I won't buy an X-Box 360.
I agree with the point that enjoying games that aren't always serious is a refreshing way to have fun. It's nice not to worry about whats around the next corner and just concentrate on what's all around you. Many people were tossing around Fear and SS2 as contenders, I've been playing SS2 as well as Fear side by side and I don't believe they are two games that can be really be compared to one another. Although they are both FPSes, one is meant to entertain while the other is meant to scare and get your heart rate going. In my opinion neither really offer much when it comes to a story line, but I think SS2 is more justified with not having one since it's a game that is known for it's corny jokes and cutscenes. Fears story line has been watered down from the beginning. Catch Fettle at all costs is all I've gotten out of the storyline so far. I still don't know how they got the guy who looks like fat bastard(http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/20 05/285/reviews/920744_20051013_screen023.jpg) in the story line, the world may never know.
