This is true for Crystal Reports as well. We export PDFs all the time via Crystal and have never had to install Adobe Standard to be able to do so. Although if you're willing to pay the outrageous amount of money for Crystal, they may as well give you the ability to export as a PDF since you've already been raped.

  4. Not surprised on Science Ability Down in U.S. High Schools · · Score: 1

I graduated from a US high school three years ago and this should be no surprise to anyone. Education in general is declining sharply. Standarized testing is killing the education system. When I was in school they focused all their effort on "preparing" us for the FCAT. This amounted to teachers only teaching for us to pass that test, not to learn. I barely ever went a day without doing some pointless FCAT exercise. What's even worse is that teachers have no choice over what they teach. Either they prepare their students for the FCAT or risk their reputation, salary, and I'm sure even their job when a student scores badly. From what I understand, since I've graduated teachers are now paid depending on their students FCAT scores. This is a horrible system and many children are doomed for failure. No longer is free thinking embraced. We need a change, fast...

Also on the flip side, if you're going to spend the 200$-300$ as I did, do your research first. I made the stuipd mistake of buying a 200$ Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB before realizing that it was actually a Sapphire made card that runs on a 128 bit bus instead of a 256 bit bus. So while I have a "Radeon 9800 Pro with 256 MB of video memory" (booming voice!), it's actually a piece. Of course it plays all of the newest games but there is much room for improvement. Moral of the story... do your homework before buying ANY video card (high, mid, or low end), don't listen to the name.

There will always be room for more broadband (and cowbell). They said this about hard drive capacities way back when. "You'll never need more than X MB's." This is especially true with large movie downloads on the horizon (or right now in your face for some of us). I know there's nothing I hate more than streaming a movie from cinemanow.com and having to let it buffer. It's just as bad as a DVD skipping. Maybe this is just one remote example of a need for more broadband, but imagine if HD-DVDs start to get offered online not to mention I'm sure there's a plethora of other services I'm forgetting that could most likely benefit from this.

I don't trust that this is a testament to MS's "good nature" to prove that this is a security issue. Most likely there is another motive behind the research. Perhaps this doesn't justify a switch all in itself, but compiled with a lot of other news I've read there seems to be impending doom for anyone in the way of this train wreck we call MS. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe we're all wrong, who knows but I've been thinking of it more often due to things like this.

Personally, I started programming with just using markup languages like HTML (which isn't programming if you ask me) but then progressed to javascript which ultimately lead me into VB. I can honestly say that I do regret the path I took as I sometimes have trouble wrapping my mind around some concepts that are foreign to IDE driven languages. I do feel more in tune now that I have pushed those languages aside and took the time to learn real coding languages like c/c++. I almost feel a sense of shame for taking the easy way back then and using those IDE's, but what the hell, I was like 15 when I started and didn't know any better. Ohh, so young and ignorant...
