This is a perfect bragging elitist post, you're just too much of a pussy to take credit. Perhaps the reason you don't participate in social interaction is because you're a douche bag?
It most certainly does not survive a full flash over odin on a Samsung device. I'm not a thief, but if I was, I'd always wipe/flash stolen devices fully before ever attempting to power them up.
I can't help but guess that you are very poor at judging people. Really, you may gain some insight by stalking their smartphone, but a 10 minute conversation would probably be a huge upgrade.
Renting also has cost me stability. I switched to ownership after being kicked out of my rental due to the landlord selling the property. I had trouble with a previous rental because the landlord decided they wanted to live in the property again. In another previous situation I was forced to move due to building renovations.
I loathe moving and also lacking control, so renting is much less attractive.
This is vastly overstated and then served as cool aid.
Check out this article which debunks some myths.
Misconception: Most of what Americans spend their money on is made in China.
Fact: Just 2.7% of personal consumption expenditures go to Chinese-made goods and services. 88.5% of U.S. consumer spending is on American-made goods and services
Why not launch rsync from the laptop? That way the desktop never needs to know the laptop's hostname for the sync to occur.
The other option would be to maintain some kind of tunnel from the laptop to keep it on the lan. You could setup OpenVPN or even SSH server in the home, and setup the desktop to maintain a connection and drop all other routes.
Final option would be to start from scratch and figure out a less awkward workflow.
Overall point well taken.
One nitpick though, producing a video is typically rather time consuming and usually the person speaking will be reading the words they had written previously or reciting them from memory.
The proper thing to do in this case to satisfy your (and many other's) preferences would be to post the video and the transcript.
Personally I like reading and watching learning material, I feel like each helps in a different way.
"The USPS has exclusive access to letter boxes marked "U.S. Mail" and personal letterboxes in the United States, but still competes against private package delivery services, such as UPS and FedEx."
"Due to the postal monopoly, they are not allowed to deliver non-urgent letters and may not directly ship to U.S. Mail boxes at residential and commercial destinations. However both companies have transit agreements with the USPS in which an item can be dropped off with either FedEx or UPS who will then provide shipment up to the destination post office serving the intended recipient where it will be transferred for delivery to the U.S. Mail destination, including Post Office Box destinations."
"Many of the thousands of courier companies focus on same-day delivery, for example, by bicycle messenger."
There are certain things that aren't possible on IOS/Android/WebOS whatever, but all of these OS's work fine as a thin client to some other OS. Given a fast and fully functional remote desktop application, mouse, keyboard, and large display there's a full environment.. The drawbacks are bandwidth/latency and quality of remote application.
I live in New Hampshire, so our heat waves are shorter and less intense. That said it can get hot and has been into the mid 90's a few times this summer.
I like to cool off in a 10'x30" Easy Set Pool setup inside a screen shelter.
So you surf around with ad-block disabled and then blacklist any sites that have annoying ads? Seems like extra work and you still see the worst ads on your first visit. If you're not buying anything, a buck is quite optimistic for your impression.
This will probably work similarly well with significantly fewer than 40k clicks:
http://www.xnconvert.com/
"XnConvert is a cross-platform batch image-converter and resizer with a powerful and ease of use experience. All common picture and graphics formats are supported (i.e. JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, Camera RAW, JPEG2000, WebP, OpenEXR) as well as supporting over 500 other image formats.
Also available within the batch operations include rotating, adding of watermarks, adding of text along with many image-adjustment features such as brightness, shadows and more.
XnConvert is free for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Both 32-bit and 64-bit editions are available"
Agree about Wired, there was an article not too long ago about something I have inside personal knowledge of. Their story was factually incorrect and downright fabricated in places.
VNC is very easy to configure and get running on mac, but that's where the fun ended for me. I find it crashes the GUI if I try to login before mac is ready after a reboot. Also, it seems to randomly get "stuck" and the process needs to be killed before the interface becomes responsive.
Also running headless, the resolution options are very limited with only 4:3 options, and no workaround.
A couple cheap desktops ($500 each), raid 1 nas storage device (~$500), single drive backup for the NAS (~$200), and 2 gbps switches (~$30 each) you could have the bones for a low budget ha environment.
This is how I do it on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I have a universal charger that handles phone and camera batteries.
I specifically refused iphone and some motorola model of android phone last time around due to non-replaceable battery. I have a little mobile power station too, but it's way less convenient vs. just having an extra battery.
Also the battery does pop out pretty much every single time I drop it and same on my wife's Samsung Fascinate, it may be a Samsung thing. I had no problem with my Moto Droid 2's battery.
It's not something I like in this case, but freedom for everyone means freedom for some criminals too. It's delusional to pretend that there's any way to actually stop this kind of thing. The technological cat is out of the bag. If they get TOR, the criminals will move to whatever other technology, and they'll have to go for that, and we get stuck in and endless loop of cat and mouse.

1/5 scale Cessna with a smart phone? This comes nowhere near describing the type of setup one can purchase or build. A quick search found me The Cinestar 8 quadrocopter will carry a 10 pound payload (like a 4k camera) and has GPS waypoint capabilities. It could obviously also be loaded with 10# of c4, more than enough to take out 1/2 the neighborhood.
It most certainly does not survive a full flash over odin on a Samsung device. I'm not a thief, but if I was, I'd always wipe/flash stolen devices fully before ever attempting to power them up.
With a modern phone and decent coverage you can use Ustream or Bambuser
Either of these will re-broadcast your video live and also create an archive for watching in the future.
The proper time to suggest a Linux Desktop is when people ask you for free Windows OS license keys.
I can't help but guess that you are very poor at judging people. Really, you may gain some insight by stalking their smartphone, but a 10 minute conversation would probably be a huge upgrade.
I categorically refuse to view ads that can easily be blocked and have no remorse for using ABP, vpn, etc.

You can't go to a apple.com, download the iso for free, and install a full, legal version of the OS on the hardware of your choice.
