Consider CSS. It was lousy encryption, sure, but it was standardized across an entire medium. DVD's are rippable (and viewable on non-sanctioned players and operating systems) as a result.
Now, consider what would happen if this Microsoft DRM becomes industry standard. If it's the standard, it's everywhere. If it gets cracked, it's cracked for everything that uses MS' DRM.
Given the legendary quality and security we've come to expect from Microsoft's software offerings, well, you can figure out the rest.
This story is nothing but a blatant troll. It has no content other than "the Firefox community are immature". The only proof the author offers to support his claim is that "the number of total Firefox downloads is misleading". I can't really tell what one has to do with the other, as the author has sort of jumped to the conclusion...nay, not even that. He's first come up with the idea that the members of the Firefox community are immature, and only then tried to come up with "arguments" to prove this.
Sure he has proof. The Firefox community is immature because they're the most immature bunch of immatures to ever immature. Duh.
Great minds think alike. However, as a True Linux User (TM) I've resorted to converting all my media into ASCII so I could view it in GNU nano by keeping my fingers on ^V. True, it's mostly porn and it takes a lot of my time but i feel my self-respect is worth it !!!
After a while, I don't even see the code. Just blonde, brunette, redhead.
Of course, this could also be used as a mass weapon against a professor who insists on lecturing until the very last minute of class, and _then_ giving out the assignment for next class.
"Good afternoon, class. Today we will be voting with laser pointers. As I am not fond of blindness, I will be delivering today's lecture with my eyes closed."
I've seen a few responses here suggesting that before you take your computer in for repair you should encrypt your files, move them to to a removable drive, etc. (or should be doing so as a matter of course). My only question: if you know how to do that, why are you taking your computer to Gateway to get it repaired?
Amongst the Slashdot commentariat, one often hears that information wants to be free, almost as a catchcry of the open source, copyfight and related info-libertarian movements. OTOH, these same Slashdot readers stridently guard their privacy, so presumably information about their shopping preferences or websurfing does not 'want to be free'. How does the intelligent and functional Slashdot crowd reconcile the liberty of other people's information with the privacy of their own?"
They need DC electrical power, but what the car engine produces is mechanical power! The car's alternator produces AC at a loss, which is rectified to DC, which then goes to the lossy Peltier chips. Assuming "ebay chips" are, say, 5% efficiency, we're looking at an overall system efficiency of 1-2%. Yeah, great way to save gas.
I'm gonna trademark me the word "terrorist". That ought to make me a mint!
But people have already started using the more succinct "terrist".

Uh, copyright is automatic.
Uh, copyright is automatic now. You used to have to register. Not only that, you had to put copyright notices on your stuff, and renew your copyright after a number of years if you wanted it to remain copyrighted. Some things are in the public domain by virtue of neglecting to put (c) on the title card.
Furthermore, stuff created for the government is (or at least was) automatically in the public domain.
They stated that this doesn't nothing to prevent states from legislating limits on eminent domain seizures by municipal government
If this is indeed the case, all is not lost; this just needs to be fought locally, 50 times over.
If state legislatures don't listen, there are local municipalities which can also limit themselves with regard to eminent domain via local ordinances.
There's also constitutional amendments, if you want to go uphill.
Look up law in your state with regard to referenda.
You, as a citizen, can still fix this. If you don't want your land being part of a Wal-Mart or Home Depot or a dog track, There exist ways of preventing it.
So in the three years it takes to develop, the price will slowly rise to $300. And it will, of course, run Windows Vista.
Probably noticed that it had a terrible pain in all the diodes down its left side.

Microsoft wins yet again:
FTFA: So, to Microsoft: never mind. You don't need to lift a finger.
They don't win. There's still work to be done. Breaking compatibility takes effort.
Well, I know I completely trust what this administration says about who funds terrorism.
They have such a great track record.

Just not at the same time.
go planet.
I wonder if this will pursuant to their normal utterly stellar returns policy.
Still no love for the Charlie in the Box.
Dear Everyone On The Internet,
What an odd word.
Signed,

The official answer to that is "shut up."
If the fix their CSS bugs they'll break web sites that is heavilly dependant on IE CSS.
As an Opera(and often Firefox) user who has had to put up with braindead detection scripts and heinously bad frontpage turds, I say:
Good.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Isn't that an absolute?
