    This is not e-voting software. No votes were counted and applied to the results of elections.

    This is voter registration and list software that keeps track of voter registrations tallies voter histories.

    The voter _histories_ have miscounts.

    Yeah.

    Also, generalizing here, most cats have no concept of how to use whitespace to present their code in a more easily read format.

    I think it has to do with the way they type on the laptop. With their back to the screen, using it as a backrest.

    My cats do all my shell scripting (bash mainly, some tcsh).

    They don't like C++ or Objective C at all.

    Don't even ask about Ruby.

    If you watch the D8 podcast (or the stream) of Steve's interview with Walt Mossberg (nearly two hours long), he explains why the enterprise market is not of interest to Apple. And you get the impression the disinterest is long term.

    Even if you don't like Steve Job's or Apple, it is fascinating to seen the man think and respond.

    Watch that, then watch the interview with Steve Ballmer (and Ray Ozzie). The contrast between Jobs (and Ozzie) to Ballmer is.....definitive.

    If the intent is to aim for computer science/engineering degrees and you have bright energetic kids, start your track with a "ground up" sequence.

    Dump anything having to do with the IT department. This is not a class sequence for learning Photoshop. The kids should have full access to the boxes. With the understanding that they will be periodically wiped. No networking (no wireless, ethernet).

    Load the OS on the bare box. Load development system, etc.

    Don't worry about teaching "Mac" programming, "Windows" programming, "Unix" programming. Larn em up so it won't matter.

    Nice list of basic skills (I'll just start with one):
          - be able to take an object code file and reproduce the C code it was compiled from, manually

    IT departments and their "customers" are partners in accomplishing the tasks the company must perform to be successful (or simply stay in business).

    When the "customer" is able to contort IT to their wishes to make their job easier, or when IT is able to contort their customers to their wishes to make _their_ jobs easier, the more the corporate mechanism falls apart.
