I think it under serves the student in question. These are children. When I was a kid, my best friend's Dad was the high school vice principal. He has explained to me that his job was to provide some additional structure to help kids who otherwise could not make it through high school. I still know this guy as an adult and he regularly gets former students approaching him around town and thanking him for helping them through that tough time in their lives.
As a parent today, I'd much rather have the school do some detention or a parent conference. My kid would have a chance to stay in the school with those options. Throwing the kid right into the maws of the legal system is a bad idea until the more reasonable options are exhausted.
When I was in High School, disruptive kids got sent to the Vice Principal for this kind of thing. Why did this get charged as a real crime? Don't schools have any discretion or judgment left to them anymore?
Why don't you stop complaining and simply start your own social network with more user friendly TOS. After all, if Facebook's TOS are as bad as you say, then it should be a walk in the park to get your own social network going where the basis of your differentiation is friendly TOS. You'll be as rich and famous as Zuckerberg. What's stopping you?
At my place of employment, we're still using un-networked Apple II computers so we can utilize a rocket thrust calculator written in BASIC by our founder. He's been promising us 64K Macs for the past 20 years but I'm not holding my breath.

Here is my argument: Censorship is morally wrong. I condemn China for censorship. I condemn all Iranian dictators (supported by the US or not) for censorship. I condemn any censorship that might be going on in the USA.

Imagine the applications of this if we had a sizable fleet of electric cars in use.
Place chargers near congested intersections in big cities. Cars would be getting charged while waiting at red lights.
Parking garages for large office buildings would charge all of the cars parked in them for the day.
