The Right put Obama on Joe's front lawn? Interesting. Yes connected to Charles Keating , oh wait, that story was actually found out to be false. From your favorite website:

Robert M. Wurzelbacher, son-in-law of Keating, was 37 years old in 1991 when federal charges were filed against Keating. It appears that he has addresses in Phoenix and Coronado, CA. The Robert M. Wurzelbacher of Milford, OH, a heavy donor to GOP candidates, is 83 years old and retired. They're not the same person. Digging to see if this guy is a plant or a hypocrite is a good idea. But I think it's equally important to know the link before idle speculation.

I know you normally don't let the truth get in the way when you are trying to destroy the credibility of someone who disagrees with you, but this one is patently false. I understand it is hard to find the retractions when the media is in full on frothing-at-the-mouth mode, but seek and ye shall find.

As far as McCain and Keating, Obama has far more nefarious connections with people of questionable backgrounds than that. I'm not sure that would be the best argument to make. Doesn't matter, he got elected by hook or by crook.

Yes, no one goes by their middle name, he must be fraud. He actually is a plumber, just not a union plumber. He has a less than $1,500 tax lien not a criminal offense. It shouldn't have been about "Joe the Plumber" and about the question and response. Barack and the media just did a damn good job of deflecting, you are an obvious example that it worked. The DailyKos appreciates you regurgitating their misinformation for them.

The UAW has successfully sucked itself dry. I'm sorry, but we do not have children in factories or horrendous conditions anymore thanks to unions, but they do not have a purpose here anymore. Look at the industries that are heavily unionized, American automakers, American steel and construction. How are those doing right about now?

When you retire you don't withdraw all of your assets, at least you are not supposed to. If they have been saving for 40 years, they are way, way, way up. The DOW is down 25% from its peak of last October, but still up over 40% from 10 years ago, 400% from 20 years ago and 1200% from 30 years ago. By dollar cost averaging and reinvesting dividends, you would be up pretty good. Also, by retirement age, you should be in a good mix of approximately 50% bonds which actually benefit from a bear market. The same rate of return can not be had with gold or real estate.

But the only reason they are in this problem is because of the government. The whole idea of mark to market is partially the cause of this. Short term price depreciation is causing otherwise stable companies to fail, since they have to count the losses of an unsold asset before it is sold. The other half of the problem is the removal of the uptick rule, allowing hedge funds to hammer the price of companies down without having to wait for a buyer. The combination of these two things have forced a recession out of a slowdown.

I agree with your post in the domain of phone contracts. They are too long and too legally written to be understood by a lay person. But as far as mortgages go, a large percentage of the problem is/was people who simply thought that they were going to get rich off of it. When you are making $50,000 a year you should know you shouldn't take out a 100% mortgage on a $400,000 house regardless of whether or not someone would offer the loan. Some of the onus falls on the lender, but a lot of it falls on the borrower. Personally I don't mind the bank lending since that is what drives this country, what they shouldn't have done is offer the 80/20 loans with no PMI. The situation we are in is exactly what PMI was designed for and they somehow managed to fuck that up as well.
