I'm hoping for research into (I forgot what they're called) "honeycomb" networks that are basically internets without a backbone. Sort of an amateur radio internet. I don't really care if I can stream video. I just want to be sure I can get wikileaks and Slashdot.
Mesh. Mesh networks. Basically, your personal device becomes a node and a router. Traffic is distributed and routed by the members of the network itself.
I'm surprised nobody has put a virus on the graphics card. If the PCI is multi-mastered (not uncommon on higher-end machines), then the card could control all the other devices without going through the OS at all, giving a virus that could inhabit that space ABSOLUTE power over the machine.
It's already been done. A lot. Just that no one realizes it yet.
The drawings take on certain characteristics based on the spam - I'd be curious if this could be used in future spam filtering. You could get your daily filtering reports in pretty pictures instead of bar graphs!
There are two basic types of fonts - screen fonts and print fonts. Arial was designed as a screen font. Times Roman was designed as a print font - it looks much better printed than on screen.
Instead of banning cameras, then memory sticks (as one poster said, they can be potentially hidden to look like just about anything), then iPods...remove the capability from the computer itself! Make them more of a "dumb terminal", no floppy, no CD writer, no accessible USB.
It's about putting out of business channels that do anything outside the mainstream.
At first, I thought this FCC interest was good. Then I thought "I wonder what their alterior motives are". Your post reflected just about all my thoughts on the issue.
But, I'd like to address this one statement. This is good and bad. Do you think people are widely going to pay for the religious fanatacism and / or sterile programming? It would be great to see the mainstream buy and hence, select, all the programming that the FCC despises on their facade of a crusade for decency.
Supposedly, so does the Saleen S7. The undercarriage of the car is designed to raise downforce the faster the car goes, so theoretically, if the car goes fast enough it can be driven upside-down. If I recall, 180mph is the magic number.
No existing Windows app will run on it? Office, as demonstrated at CES, isn't a Windows application?

ADAS system will beep every 10 seconds to make sure you're paying attention
You've got to be kidding. Who is going to drive (and I use the term loosely per the subject) a car that beeps at them every ten seconds?
Microsoft needs to acknowledge the problem, issue a statement on it, and offer to replace any affected X-box 360s *and games* with a minimum of fuss.
They're too busy running around trying to fix their WMF's.
If by AE, you meant AU, then 1 AU is closer to 93 million miles (92 955 887.6 miles, to be more exact).

Minidisc superior to the CD? In what way? surely not in sound quality.
The needle won't necessarily sink. I recall experiments floating a needle on top of water because it wasn't heavy enough to break the surface tension.

Apparently, Microsoft is preparing an emergency patch for this.
Reuters has a bit on this as well: Intel working with companies in entertainment push
The AP is reporting on this as well.

Wow - I got to the site before it was /.'ed, but can't read it! Black text on a dark blue background doesn't cut it.
Odd - didn't pop up on Trillian over here. Yet...
The bots themselves: potentially useful The bots installing automatically: spam Simple as that.
If that's the case, then why is RedHat dipping following analyst downgrades?
