Three words: Mod Parent Up. This behavior, and the backlash to big box stores, have been pretty obvious to the observer since the advent of the supermarket. As an aside though, Jeff Bezo is probably paying his employees fairly and paying a whackload of taxes to boot.
Disclaimer: As a Canucklehead I know extremely little about American corporate law other than someone will eventually get screwed when a CEO siphons off a billion dollars of company money to buy ridiculous crap.
Nobody in Western countries has to work multiple jobs unless they are doing something seriously wrong (in which I'd incluide living in expensive small-town American and/or getting married and having kids).
Getting married and having kids is seriously wrong? Gimme a break! Who's going to be posting dumb crap like that on Slashdot in thirty years if some of us don't?
Not everyone is of that opinion. I have shirts from every tour (Rush) since 1986. They're making their money off of someone (me) and that's not about to change soon.:wq
FF is becoming shockingly similar to IE, with the only significant advantage of FF being the lack of OS integration.
You're kidding, right? I'm out in the big wide world posting from a windows box that doesn't have firefox installed, nor am I allowed to install it. IEs rendering speed is hideous, and rendering itself seems to be broken. I haven't used IE in a couple of years now, and I know why everytime I'm forced to use it.
Mod parent up! Elementary schools in Canada still use old PCs and Mac G3s to teach beginners about the wonderful world of computing, and Floppies are still pretty essential in this environment. They have a pretty short lifespan so haveing extras around is a must.
I've since abandoned them for live shows at bars and concerts (in small venues). It's a little more expensive, but they treat their customers with more respect. And there's beer.
As an adult, live nudity is almost always better than nudity on a screen, especially since the price of a movie ticket will get me two of those beers (three on tuesdays). Also, with money the wife and I have saved by not going to the movies over the last three years we have gotten out to see a live theater play of Peter Pan with the kids which frankly was better than the last big screen creation of the same story, plus many others.
I have a copy of a couple of movies on my hard drive, but I ripped those from my neighbors DVD collection. He comes over to my place to catch a flick once in awhile too, and I see no illegality about that.
If Yahoo were willing to give MS two million dollars to be the default, and MS decides to ignore their offer and sets the default to MSN, they've just lost a potential two million dollars.
It's not free for Microsoft to set their own defaults any more than it is for a shop owner to close up shop for a day. That's what economists call opportunity cost, and it's very real.
Interesting! So why wouldn't Microsoft sell the opportunity, or at least present it, to several potential buyers? What do they gain by placing their own search engine as default instead of another?
When it comes to sales and marketing, I consider Microsoft to be practically of genius level, so can that be construed as a mistake on their marketing department behalf?
I did quite a bit of work with NWN 1 and ran a server for awhile. The module a friend of mine and I created is available for download at http://www.thain.org./ That said, I've heard little good about NWN II, with complaints running the gamut from performance issues to camera issues to menu issues (no more right-click->bash for objects), and really dislike the fact that Linux support has been dropped. After hearing all I've heard about NWNII from associates I trust in the area, my work with games is done.
the binary driver issue and the world's most popular desktop disto's handling of the matter, is crucial. We need to pressure the hardware companies to release drivers, and Ubuntu may soon brutally undermine those efforts.
NVidia, the folks with the currently best closed binary driver, is considering releasing the source after seeing what market there is. Getting others to release a binary driver may open their eyes too by just introducing them to the market. Inclusion is good thing.
Besides, releasing binary only is their choice.
If you get tired of playing with a video game system, it just sits in the closet. Chances are, if people get tired of that puppy, it'll be sent to a shelter to be slaughtered.
If someone doesn't adopt the pup, it doesn't mean the pup somehow doesn't get born. Is it better to not take a chance and let the poor thing get euthanised or tossed out in the street? Gimme a break! Take a chance! Get a pet! People with pets live longer and better lives, and no, some Tamagochi style computerized thing doesn't cut it.
Religion is, for some, just a very highly developed confirmation bias.

In Soviet Slashdot...

Boosting the price that 'Evil' will have to pay to compete isn't evil. It's fighting evil.
(Cue comic book style superhero in cape posing)
Because the moment someone asks me for the root password I stop doing business with them until i know them. Give it about two years or so.
Then they'll get a restricted sudo if I like them...
The whore. The virgin bites your head off _before_ you get laid...
I think Math Rock was labeled Prog Rock. Listen to Rush or Yes and enjoy.
Whereas the Microsoft folk look at it the other way around...
As much as I would love to jab at MS, mod parent UP!
Firefox is nothing like IE.
Us independants like being independant.

Yeah, but after taxes death is just a tired feeling...

Who did MSN pay to be the default search engine in IE7?
Hence the name: Monopoly.
The thain module is sitting around 60 meg right now. By that math it would be a 20 GB module.
Oh come on that _cant_ be right. Do you have a PW filesize calculator or something you're using to work this out?

Okay, well, anything Atari has a hand in anyways.
He did. ish. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mac+pc +linux+TrueNuff&search=Search
