Two of the patents were withdrawn, however, and four others were invalidated by the judge, before a May trial that was limited to the trade secrets claims.
Now they have less ammunition to use against competitors which is good for everyone. #patentlybullshitpatents
On the web, interstitials are web pages displayed before or after an expected content page, often to display advertisements or confirm the user's age (prior to showing age-restricted material). Most interstitial advertisements are delivered by an ad server. - wikipedia
Everyone but advertisers would prefer if sites with lame adverts before the content were punished. I hope to see this feature added to DuckDuckGo.
If only we had some sort of national agency that would find weaknesses in security and ensure we were protected. A "national security agency" if you will... oh wait. -_-
And here is the real danger of a surveillance-state: They can send anybody, any time to prison for as long as they desire, and there is no possibility to defend yourself unless they screwed up massively (as they did in the case at hand).
seems like reason enough to start using open source software and open hardware. it won't be perfect but it can't be any worse than windows on an intel chip.
If you want to number of guns to be reduced, you need to crack down on black market suppliers and have a no-questions-asked firearm buyback program. If a kid steals a gun from his gangster brother, give that kid the money. It's not a total solution but will reduce the number of people getting shot which will give victims of violence a better chance at survival and more importantly, reporting their attackers.
No, seriously, thanks, developers. For always being "evergreen," for deciding that end users should no longer have the right to accept or refuse individual "upgrades," and for always being agile.
developers aren't the one's that decide shit like this, this has "management" written all over it.
facebook has done a good job of destroying user trust, so i don't think people are looking to become more entwined with them than they already are. it's one thing to betray users when you have a leading platform and people are being to driven to rely on you but it's quite another to be known as betraying users when you are trying to build a new platform.
I don't really see anything funny or positive in the fact that one of your main intelligence services is under attack by a hostile power. And this attack is not clandestine, hidden from unwanted eyes, but it is made in public,
it's not the NSA that is under attack, it's the entire world. when you create an exploit, you create a weapon but when you submit a fix, you make that weapon ineffective. so now instead of have the world's best armor, we have an absurd cache of weapons and those weapons have been stolen. the moral isn't to protect your weapons better, it's that you should be making better armor.
The truth of the matter is that Twitch pissed off a gypsy and has now been cursed. Now the users on Twitch are so annoying that it will make your eyes bleed. THE CURSE IS REAL!
I'd actually be happier if Ford ended up doing this first instead of Google. I love the idea of a self-driving car, but don't really like the idea of Google having full access to yet another facet of everyone's lives.
Google and Ford will create a joint venture to build self-driving vehicles with Google’s technology, a huge step by both companies toward a new business of automated ride sharing,
When companies begin cheating the system by hiding their dirty secrets in the ECU's (Engine Control Unit's) binary, it seems like the proper response to this is to begin mandating that binary in the ECU be 100% open source and able to be built with open source tools. This way, the binaries can be verified as being representative of the source code and the source code can be inspected by anyone.
Continuing on like we have will only yield the same result because the best predictor of future actions are past actions.
which part of "theoretical dangers" do you not understand? the fact that you can take control of it remotely and have it do your bidding is the point being made.
too much blue light can trick your brain into thinking it's daytime. the result of this is it requires more time for your brain to enter sleep mode leading to reduced amount of sleep overall.
what about people with bipolar disorder? well, we already know that not getting enough sleep also results in increased emotional volatility in people with bipolar disorder.
so yes, blocking blue light can help people that have sleep issue but then again, sources of blue light are completely artificial, so you're doing it to yourself.
The old media companies are infamous for their inflexibility, so this comes as no surprise. The only way to break them is to actually start taking sizable portions of their market by producing well received content but when you get to that point, you might as well tell them to fuck off because you don't actually need them anymore.
. [The fact that] ULA has provided support for this effort again suggests that the leadership of Bruno is reshaping the company into a much more innovative and competitive company.
No, what it means is that they are getting their asses beaten so badly by SpaceX that they have moved to desperation and PR tactics.

no job is safe, no future entirely secure
When was the last time you heard of an H-1B worker taking a politician's job?

With "only" 16MB of flash memory, how do you get Systemd on it?! ;)
ok seriously, does anyone else know of any shell that not only needs an entire framework install but also has 44MB of shit in it's source code?

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones... and buy some damn shades because seriously, nobody wants to see that!

Well, I'm delighted to inform you that I have some bad news for you!

It's not Ford doing this, it's Google and Ford. ;)
does anyone else think all the "smart" devices are really just stupid ways of solving a previously solved problem?

it's finally happening!
What in god's name possessed you to create this monstrosity?

so who is being held accountable for this? nobody? seems blocking ads is not only justifiable but also a moral imperative too.

The only ones who refuse to compromise are dictators or useless blowhards.
I see you're already familiar with the US congress. ;)
