Just to get this straight -- you really think that someone who are sexually drawn to children are criminals, even though they never did anything inapropriate?
And if you think that, then am I a criminal if I once wanted to steal something, but didnt?
The solution to this problem is to use your own user account, or your own Firefox profile, or to clear your history, if you want your browser history to be private.
If you, every day, drive by the bank, and asks if anyone needs a lift, are you liable if you, with no (reasonable) way of knowing, help some robbers get away?
There is no reasonable way of knowing if your.torrent tracker "help" others in illegaly sharing and obtaining copyrighted material.
The seeds might have permission to distribute, and the leeches might have permission to have a digital copy of the work in question. There is also no way of knowing if the name of the torrent is accurate, but that's less of a defense for TPB, because they ask downloaders to report bad torrent names.
Seconded.
On public pages I use javascript only for 2 things:
1. Non-essential visual effects (most of which are part of current web standard drafts)
2. Slideshows (with a "manual" fallack, of course)
I don't own Vista myself, but I have to manage it for some of my grandmother. Here are some tripping points that I've had to fix for her, things that would not have been an issue if I had just installed Ubuntu on the machines:
Time-limited, nagging antivirus. My poor grandmother did not know what to do with this.
Time-limited office trial. Solution: install open office. Voila, no more complaints.
Loads of 3rd party crap, nagging about updates and registration on every startup. This is not MSs fault, but it would not have been a problem with Ubuntu or similar
Missing codecs. Solution: installing CCCP. This is not actually any more difficult in windows, if you know that you ought to get CCCP. Just hunting on the 'net for windows codecs is a good way to pick up virii. There is less risk of picking up virus if you hunt for a Ubuntu repo with codecs and decss (not illegal here, btw).
The initial setup of Windows took me a _lot_ longer than installing and setting up Ubuntu would have - mainly because of time-consuming uninstalls. And the end result is still not easier to use for my grandmother than a Ubuntu setup would be - she browses the web, organizes photos (with picasa), sends/receives email (with gmail) and reads PDFs and.docs (with OpenOffice).
The _only_ reason for using Windows is the poor state of mplayer-plugin. On the video sites my family might send links to, it only works about 50% of the time. The rest of the time it just fails silently (it doesn't even show up).
If you really hate the new "awsome bar" that much, turn it off!
Firefox 3 is both faster and has a lighter footprint than ff2. I used opera as my main browser before, but with ff3, I could finally use it day-to-day on my ancient computer.
The userland API is pretty stable -- and changes are pretty trivial to work around. It's the in-kernel linux API that is constantly getting slammed for not being set in stone.
Btw, the linux analog to graphics is X11. X11R7 is from 2005, and is backwards-compatible with X11R6, from 1994.
The FSF could let the TIVO hole work _for_ them --
Require all plugins to link against a small (512 byte or so?) GPL'ed blob, and check for it at load time.
There is no file manager functionality removed from Konqueror in KDE4 -- Konqueror is still a simple shell that can host most any KDE application - including the file manager. The default toolbars and buttons are more tweaked towards being a browser, and Dolphin is tweaked towards being a file manager. But you can still use Konqueror for your files, if you want to.
Asking a bank employee what they think you should do as their customer, is different from getting "my computer is slow, can you fix it?" from your aunts neighbour =)
Not to mention how much of Tolkien was derived from actual myths.
Que cheap shots at Bush =)

Funny point, but not completely correct. 20 years ago, a lot of terrorism was commited by vehemently anti-religous groups (communists and similar).
How about leaving these apps on an internal IPv4 net?
You ended up with an 8086? Most have moved on by now I gather =)
It seems you don't know the meaning of the word pornographic.
I quote the third meaning of the word:
I also feel the world to be a better place after I spank some kids.
I always thought it was just me!
Make sure you use dash. Bash is dog slow.
That's just stupid, and I suspect that you know it.
VLC works on all those platforms, and plays these files fine.

I would have to say, honestly, that the answer to that question depends on the type of job.
But if you are just a coding monkey, then most likely a resounding YES.

I disagree.
The problem with javascript is still browser incompabilities, and that would not lessen with other scriping languages.
It's also not funny to be a socialist in some US-backed regimes like for example Colombia [1]

I agree.
The extension could even be installed and enabled by default, if you want to appear cuddly.

You're right. The one above us is waaay bigger than ours. And our universe is constantly expanding at the same rate as their data center.

Why your own bindings for QT? I mean, there is already EMCA scripting in Qt4...
