Not being able to "lose" would apply to ALL MMORPG's, not just WoW. If you were to "lose" the entire game then the developer would lose a subscriber, and they definitely don't want that.

Win/lose in MMORPG's is done on a much smaller scale -- i.e., each quest and each battle presenting an opportunity to win/lose.

I do like that KeePass will generate passwords for you.

Since I build a lot of websites, I prefer not to reuse passwords (I often hand-off the passwords to clients), so the slip of paper in my wallet would not be a great solution for me.

What's wrong with retro-gaming? The GBA had a ton of A-list games. A lot of those titles will be resold through the DSi store (Nintendo ALWAYS recycles old titles). So, it won't matter that you own the physical cartridge; you'll have to pay for the software again if you want to play it.

Bungie's Marathon was actually the first FPS to be story-driven, and it was a contemporary of Doom. It was one of those rare Mac-only A-list games.

The story was told through the computer terminals, since it was mostly about how the ship's AI had gone insane, and was sending you on various missions. The nice thing about it was that you didn't have to read the terminals if you didn't care about the story, you could just click through them quickly.

Since the Atari 2600 and the Apple ][+ came out, it's always been a neck-and-neck race between PC's and consoles as to which was the better gaming platform.

The 2600 had a nice library of games, but the Apple ][+'s graphics and complexity blew it away. In fact, I would say that many of the pro's & con's of PC vs console gaming from the early 1980's are largely intact to this day.

Well, not just the ability to install programs, but the availability of many programs. My previous dumbphone had various apps built-in and downloading more apps was not an idea Apple invented, and it had a SIM card that I could put a lot of music on (after I hacked it; effing Verizon locked it down). What I couldn't do was download a GPS turn-by-turn mapping app, or Skype, Pandora, eBay, and 85,000 other apps.

Also, I think a smartphone is defined by the user interface. Moving from a phone that had a simple numeric keypad for input to a touchscreen-based system was a huge leap.

And I would say the screen size. The screen on a typical dumbphone is typically not big enough to do a lot.

And an actual keyboard, whether its physical or virtual.

However, the line is very blurry. Dumbphones are taking on more and more smartphone features.

A friend of mine tried setting up a Media Center PC with the 360 to view content.

First off, just having the 360 ON is incredibly annoying -- the fans are so freaking loud. At least in a game, you're totally immersed in it so you forget about it. But, for just watching TV? Nope, it's just a lot of white noise you don't need

Second, going with all-Microsoft software is going to limit your choices, because of corporate choices regarding DRM and such.

My friend has an old XBox that he software-modded with XBMC, and of the three devices, XBMC is the one that gets all of the use.

The main thing the 360 is good for is playing games; anything else it does is a DISTANT second. If you aren't going to use it for gaming, give it away as a present or sell it on eBay.
