Parents should imply implement OpenDNS....they can block DNS Requests to Pr0n, violence, etc...
There just needs to be more education and less legislation
This thing would be perfect for emergency situations....for example:
During the fires last year in San Diego the emergency personnel used cell phones, but had trouble getting reception. These balloons could help with that issue.
The main problem about that situation was the Wind. You would have to tether the balloon to keep it in the area where you need it to be.
If this were combined with a "Clean Coal" power plant and the gasification process, they could reduce a step. one of the by products of a clean coal power plant is carbon monoxide...
That is dangerous thing to say...It's that kind of thinking that stifles innovation...There may be an easy fix that Nasa has not thought of....like maybe covering it up the Solar panel with a blanket. who knows...
Since when is it a problem for someone to gain access to the source code for something that is open source anyway? Is there any reason for Ubuntu to worry about how well guarded the code is?
I got comcast a few months ago and ran into problems trying to activate it using my ubuntu laptop. Whne I plugged in and tried to go to a website I was redirected to an activation page which told me that my OS was not supported. When I callled comcast they asked me what Operating System I was running, and I told them Linux....the persons repsonse was "What?" "Is that new?" "I have never heard of it..."
I had to get transfered three times before I got someone who could do the remote activation.
Comcast has been fast and solid for me. Really my only bad experience was getting my internet going for the first time.
You are on a bus traveling at the speed of light. The person in the back of the bus stands up and runs ot the front of the bus.....are they not traveling at a speed greater than the speed of light?
Realative to their surroundings their moving at a few feet per second, but realative to outside the bus they would be moving at the speed of light + a few feet per second
Is there anything about this model that would not work?
IT's really not that hard, all you have to do is have a few computers and do a little heating with electricity and it goes through the roof....if you have a 1500 watt heater that you run all the time in the winter at 10 cents per kilowatt hour that is
10 cents * 1.5 kilowatts *24 hours a day * 30 days/month = $108/month
that is one 1500 watt space heater, if you have much else in your house that is power hungry it can get ridiculous fast.
you could do this, but if you ran vmware under linux you could reduce your base OS significantly (Windows is too bloated to be the host OS in my opinion....the time to boot to the host os would be like 20-30 seconds under linux, and for the VM's you could store the image locally and just have a backup to the server every night. If an employee had an issue with their computer they could simply move to another computer and the VM that was backed up the night before could be loaded across the gigabit connection. If you keep your images small you would not have to worry about insane loading times.....of course if you are recovering from a failure I think that waiting 5 minutes to load the image would probably be acceptable.
The nice thing about VM's is the time to backup is rather quick...you can use something like drive snapshot [http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/] (I know this program is for windows, but there has to be a linux version out there). And if you keep the undo features turned on you can recover from almost any software issue within a matter of minutes simply by telling it to roll back and then restarting the machine....I have only used VMware and MS Virtual server 2005, but both of them have this feature...I personally am a big fan of virtualization if you havnt noticed.
I dont really like ragging on people too much....but I am not really all that suprised about this article. I have had a few friends who showed up one day all cheary because they landed a job at geek squad....of these people I know, I would never want them working on my computer.
Does anyone consider that there are state taxes on gasoline and diesel that help to cover the cost of the highway maintainance? Those who burn more gas will pay more tax. Typically those burning more gas are either using a heavier vehicle, or driving more miles.....sounds like they already charge those who use the highways more than those who barely use them.....why do we need GPS to do this? Not to mention that the large trucks on the road pay additional highway use taxes.
They could switch back to the way they used to do it...send a confirmation to a cell phone via a text message when you are signing up.

I really like the third point you mentioned. Why should we pay congress to go out and campaign....
The other difference between the two is that the apple with the SSD is over $3k....this is actually cheaper for what you get.
But then we are still dependant on the Middle East for Energy :(

Didn't you ever see the articles about the computers submerged in oil?...Thats a liquid

I think he got an extra zero in there somewhere

What about this analogy:

I tottally agree, its unbeleivable how many Frags I have lost due to that key....I ripped it off all my keyboards, well except the laptop :)
This article is like hardcore true....I always play female caharacters for this very reason :) I like to get free stuff and get ganked like .02% less.
I dont really like ragging on people too much....but I am not really all that suprised about this article. I have had a few friends who showed up one day all cheary because they landed a job at geek squad....of these people I know, I would never want them working on my computer.
glad you caught my drift :)
that doesnt make any sense....why are you talking about a wookie?
why would you do FP on a thin client?

so when are they going to get strong enough to take over the enterprise?
Hey, Ive seen this movie!....or that southpark :)
