    The default behavior can be annoying. But that's why you stop bitching about it, install whichever extension reverts the behavior, or even better, the Configuration Mania extension and go under "Location Bar" and set to "Match only websites you've typed previously" - also, learn to use bookmarks in a temporary fashion as well as permanent fashion, so that instead of leaving the browser open all day to accumulate memory leak buildup, you can close the browser and go back to the page...

    Problem solved...

    Because those are the idiots that have never thought of using the Debian network installation cd. This makes even normal Debian look "bloated". Also, they forget that even as good as pure Debian 4.0 was for me, Ubuntu tends to have the drivers you need for a laptop on the install disc...

    Speaking of which, I hadn't known Debian 5.0 was out, but might not matter as much since my use of Debian starting with 4.0 ended up being Sid

    He's not saying anybody should ask Google anything. The point of the man-in-the-middle network attack he's talking about would be something like messing with their dns or live editing the data to redirect their mapping application to look at a counter-intelligence map repository with misleading information...

    If abused, yes, it'd still be a violation of privacy, but it's not forcing a corporation along with it.

    Are they inherently dullsville, or has the space science community done a lousy job selling itself to the public?

    Maybe we should just give NASA to the likes of Namco and Square-Enix, then at least whatever comes after the ISS will look like the Arkbird (Ace Combat 5) or the Ragnarok (Final Fantasy 8). Maybe we'd just ditch the whole booster concept and go with a Single Stage To Orbit design like the SSTO in AC5 with a rail launch assisting sled or the equivalent from FF8, with a revolving chamber for fast follow up launches...

    Well, at least it'd all look damned cool, never mind it may not even work...

    I don't care what gender or race you are, you can try to act like a geek, but won't ever be one if you aren't already (in which case it's not acting) - that only puts you up against people who really are geeks/nerds/tech heads/etc and shows just how much fail you really are...

    Because Asus basically gave their original target audience the finger.

    Asus's Eee is a large cause for the attention netbooks have received, and was originally meant to run GNU/Linux only. The trouble started when they saw they were getting so much attention, they would make a Windows version, beefing up the machine and going from hardware that had great Linux driver support to mediocre.

    The Eee was supposed to be so cheap and yet so good, and then they started making announcements that, "No, it will not only no longer come with a 4GiB internal SSD, it will be 2GiB AND cost more."</rant>

    Simple, they should use a "first launch" type applet that when Joe Sixpack clicks "Intarwebs" the applet comes up, displays a default list of browsers and a download link, or if possible, update from a central server list with the newest choices.

    In practice, make it close to KDE's "Get Hot New Stuff" feature...

    Because it's called Scalable Vector Graphics for a reason.

    Widgets are popular right now, and having a graphics format that you can generally enlarge as much as you want without loosing much quality tends to help there, especially on large screens...

    Isn't that the point of using a DSP? So you can use a slower CPU to run the firmware and the DSP do that grunt work of decoding, thus letting you save power with the low voltage CPU?

    My question is, if it's just as well to use a DSP, why not just use a damned DSP?

    I do, and hell, it still did nothing - because it was proxy-cached on their server, and then resent to you. So /. wasn't even on the list of blockable noscript items, only their site. Further, even if /. really had that, it'd probly just reference the code on the ad-server, ala google-ads, thus allowing to block the ads, but not /. scripts...

    As everybody else stated, even then, why would that need to be on a GoDaddy server? The DoD has no shortage of servers or bandwidth, even for testing some project that could flunk, so why?

    It's not even about SSL certs - tons of them are literally just a copy and past of your banking site (or what it looked like at one time) into MS word, saving it as HTML, not looking remotely in the same layout as the real thing, having a form dump your info to a plain-text file on their server, and they grab that every so often... and yet so many people still fall for it...

    Anybody else think the weapon statistics were complete bullshit?

    Choose between an AK47 or a Makarov 9mm handgun - choose the handgun because it actually jams less, more accurate, and you can find so much ammo you can snipe people by unloading 3 clips.

    Shotguns do next to zero damage unless you're point-blank and even then half the time when its the Striker semi-auto.

    An M79 grenade launcher classifies as a pistol? So you mean I can take a grenade launcher, M249 LMG, and whatever else? Those annoying ass cars that keep running you down? It's ok, just jump outta your car and blow 'em to hell, not with your 100rnd LMG, but with a pocket sized rocket launcher!

    Which brings another point - choose from M79, Bulldog cylinder grenade launcher, RPG7, or Carl Gustave rocket launcher? Again, the M79 - the RPG misfires, breaks, or veers off, the Gustave is even worse, and the MGL is pointless since being it's supposedly the most powerful weapon in the game, yet it jams every 2 shots and is better to take an LMG or even striker.

    Choose between the already shitty AK or the even worse CAR-15 knockoff that's too underpowered to do anything.

    Multiplayer was 4x times worse because it's just spray and pray tactics, unless you're playing on a map where people are using sniper rifles...

    That'd actually be a kickass map system - you could even have the camp location change, so you're looking left, and its to the right... or have his memory get hazy if say it's been a while through that area,or is force-fed drugs (max payne 1 style)...

    True, but there are prepaid POS phones that are $10USD, such as Virgin Mobile (Sprint), coupled with a 1000 minute card for $50USD, compared to the $45ish monthly for my 400 minute + 200 text Verizon plan...

    OTOH, you get what you pay for with a lot of those prepaids...

    While the "article" is an utter failure since it's not even a dual-boot system, or far better, many dual-boot systems - if somebody were to do this properly, Linux *should* be the faster of the 2 aside from driver any driver issues.

    For the people that aren't aware, Windows does limit the number of simultaneous network connections depending on what version (Home, Pro, Server) that you are running - however, I've just gotten home from work, and am not going to my car to get my old MSCE book...

    You don't seem to understand - it's not about just having one less USB port... It's about not wanting to carry and insert some damned dongle, adding to the extra crap you carry along with a mouse.

    On the other hand, the couple of times I've setup bluetooth devices with phones, its still not instantly re-paired, so in that respect even a wired or wireless USB mouse might be more convenient

    My general conclusion is that for now bluetooth devices are a pain to use, though I'd read the next version is supposedly easier to use...
