The right to bear arms only really means anything if you had the ability to protect your self from your government- and you can be sure the government won't let you have anything powerful enough to do that.

Then there is the whole screwed up political system. Supposedly you have power with your vote but your choices are all the same. It's like bringing a vegetarian to a restaurant and telling him he can have chicken or steak. You basically have a choice of two bloated corrupt political parties who don't give a flying f#^$ about your interests (just your vote). Sure maybe you can vote someone out of office, but all you'll get back at the end of the day is the same entity with a different face.

Many would be of the opinion that the last GREAT season of the simpsons was either seasons 6 or 7, and season 8 was still pretty good. But then from seasons 9-11 things went wrong.... horribly wrong. Homer turned into a complete idiot, the plots had no ties to reality, entire characters were re-defined from what we know and love. There has been a slight improvement in the past few years... but not anything to make the Simpsons must-see-TV.

I wouldn't mind stripping out a monitor if I knew it was going to be easy... but I've read plenty of horror stories of how they can be hard to disassemble. I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with writing open source software for windows. At the same time, It bugs me to see open source projects for Windows. Here is the reason why.

Linux simply does not have as many (or in some cases) as good apps as there are for Windows. Now you can come up with list of hundreds... possibly thousands of applications for Linux. But when you trim out all the alphaware, abandonwhere, or software that requires a geek to compile and install... the remaining selection is pretty sparse. Tell me, what is an easy way to remove red eye from photo's on Linux. There is a way to do it with Gimp, but I can do it in a couple of clicks with my photo suite on Windows. That's just one small example, I'm sure there are many others. Lets not even mention games... it's hard to get excited about early 80's clone games. I'm a bit nostalic myself, but when I'm in that kind of mood I fire up mame and play the originals.

Anyway, before I stray too far from my point... simply said I'm jealous of the manpower being wasted on an operating system that already has too many apps. If someone is going to donate their efforts for free, shouldn't they contribute to an OS that can really use the additional apps?

Well I've seen alot of what is considered evidence for evolution, but nothing good enough to sell me on the idea. Sure, there's plenty of monkey bones out there (along with artists depictions), but lots of speculation and imagination goes into turning that into a real story of human evolution. Now what i've seen is this; nature is very fragile... there used to be much more biodiversity than there is today. hardship creates a thinning out and extinction, not an explosion of new species. Also, studying the symbiotic relationships in nature makes much more sense when you consider they were designed to complement each other. For evolution that just presents more problems. Not only did one species have to survive incomprehensible odds to be what it is, the dependant species had to do the same and at the same time.

Now if you ask me, it takes much less "faith" to accept what's in the Bible. People in the past deserve much more credit than we give them. Much of the bible is historically verifiable- but many choose to discredit it because they don't what to accept that miracles just might have happened.

There are many things that can be taken as proof... personal experiences, written history (the Bible for example), considering humanity and it's traits. It seemed to work the first time, but then when applying other updates the 3D driver stopped working mysteriously. After 3 later installation attempts, I was completely unable to get 3D to work under Suse again.

Then I found multi-media to be seriously impaired. I couln't even play mp3's... that really bugged me. Of course, another update to take care of that (after I selected the proper non-US mirror).

One thing that Suse did get right was automounting my SD card ... hooray! I'm using mandrake again and that doesn't support SD cards automatically (although with some tweaking I can get it to see it)

The real nail in Suse's coffin for me was that it was butt slow... I mean dreadfully awefully slow. It took literally twice as long as my Mandrake installation to boot even after shutting down what I consider unnecessary services. Even when running, everything just seemed to drag. I don't know why... maybe it's compiled to still be 386 compatible. In any case, that more than all else ended my relationship with Suse.
