I rooted my phone (Droid Eris) because Verizon stopped providing updates for it -- if I wanted to upgrade the OS, I had to root it. At some point Motorola is going to drop support for the Droid 2 and people's only option if they want an updated OS will be to install it themselves.
I feel the same way about my math education. I feel I was taught the how, but not the why -- how to plug things into a formula rather than how the formula came to be and want it means.
I think the problem is that we teach "how" and not "why". We tell kids that pi = ~3.14, but we don't tell them that it is how many times the diameter of a circle will wrap around the circle. And if we do, we don't tell them why that's important. We tell them what they need to know to do the math, but not the underlying concepts they need to understand the math.
1. News Corp is in it to make money by targeting whoever will buy the product.
2. Just because News Corp is involved doesn't mean the product will be conservative. The FOX network (not FOX News) was very liberal when it started out.
3. Not everything has to have a left/right slant. Can't we have an article about gardening without any political commentary?
We have to remember to water them.
What?

Personally, I think if the carriers want you to sign a two year contract, they should make updates available for two years.
First Wikipedia begs for money. Then WikiLeaks ask for money. Soon people are going to equate "Wiki" with begging for money. (Or PBS.) :-)
1. Acquire Nintendo 3DS
2. Determine it's features
3. Hold press conference announcing even better features

5. Profit!
Early termination fees may be more than $20 million....

I thought Han shot Greedo.
Well, now I know why we never returned to the moon
If they both make money, then they both win.
There's a difference?
Greedo shot first.
Surely you can't be serious!
An "anonymous" reader writes
...for employees who leak info...
"isn't that rather a bad sign that we are not allowed to see what they pass before they pass it?"
I think it's a bad sign that they don't even read it before they pass it.
Just when you thought Congress had run out of ways to waste money
Did Putin really say "GNU/Linux" or just Linux?
Personally, I think we should be dispatching Navy Seal teams to dissuade spammers.
1. Leak secret documents
2. Rape trial
3. ?
4. Profit!

I can't re-watch the original...Netflix doesn't have it...
And they still need more?
And Obama's a former Senator pushing his liberal agenda to a national level.
