Exactly. I saw the title and I thought, how is this going to be any different than the new Samson USB mics that have been out for the last year or so? How is it going to be more hi def than a Shure SM57, which are pretty accurate mics? Or is it going to be like a Neumann with a digital output? This read like a press release.

I wish I had mod points to give because from the discussion here it seems very few people here uses guitartab. Most tabs are just as you wrote with maybe three or four words used show where the chords fall. It is just a few cues for people who already know a song, but just need a hint at how to play some semblance of it.

  5. Re:How is that different than my book review examp on Guitartabs.com Suspends Under Legal Pressure · · Score: 1

This analogy is flawed anyway. In a book review you are using notation (words)to describe words. Tab is using notation to visually describe a piece of work that is experienced audibly. If I were to describe a book perfectly I would essentially re-write the entire book, or at least an abridgement of it. There is no way to describe a piece of music perfectly using musical notation, tablature or some new method of writing. It still needs to be translated by a musician or band (I.E. mentally). And then they need to perform the piece so that it is presented audibly. I know this sounds obvious, but by comparing book reviews to tabs it seems that some are missing the difference.

Shopping is not important to me. Data transfers are not important to me. Let me share it wirelessly with my friends that have a Zune and let me listen to their music. Period. I hate DRM, but even with DRM you can stream your music to another deveice. Why can't I do it on the Zune? It would be no different than carrying around a boombox, except only my friends could hear it and I wouldn't disturb anyone who didn't want to hear.

  13. Re:Why woudn't they want their work cataloged on Students Sue Anti-Plagiarism Service · · Score: 1

Then why doesn't the RIAA have the right to sue Gracenote or FreeDB (maybe they do)? When you put a CD into your computer iTunes (or whatever you use) finds a unique identifier on the CD (based on song length, number of tracks and, presumably, other production information)and compares that to the tag information in their database. I am assuming that the recording companies have a right to not have another company profit off of information on their CDs. I am not defending the RIAA, nor am I saying these students don't have the right to defend their work, but your rephrasing the question made me think of some broader ramifications.
