We can be meat eaters and still be alarmed about the health and quality of the food supply. Being a vegetarian/vegan has nothing to do with it. There are serious concerns about our grain, vegetable and fruit supplies as well between pesticides, GMOs and processed foods. Quit sticking your nose to the sky and actually look at the whole problem.

The problem with this theory is that organizations that support privacy and corporate vs. consumer balance, such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), tend to oppose such tactics and are loathe to use them.

The big problem is that the people who would have to approve this change are the very same people that benefit from the current system.

ICE has had a HUGE expansion of mission parameters in the last year. What makes this such a problem is that ICE is one of the few government enforcement agencies that has a large legal leeway that usually does not require warrants. This makes sense when they are patrolling the border as things happen really quickly and they have to react accordingly. But, as of earlier this year, their mandate has been vastly expanded to include things such as domain seizures and domestic law enforcement actions. Earlier this year, ICE's range was expanded to 200! miles inside the border and the media was silent. This covers a large portion of the country where a government law enforcement agency can act without a court order and detain you without cause. Now, the US Senate has passed a bill that will let them ship your ass strait to GITMO and leave you there to rot. It hasn't passed the house yet and Obama has issued a veto 'threat' but, don't hold your breath. In California, we had a recent series of of federal raids against medical marijuana growers and sellers that were legal by state standards (they went after the most clearly legal and above board operations first). The federal agency? Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in northern California, against organizations and people that were local and had nothing to do with cross-border drug smuggling verified by law enforcement agencies. They're being used as a back door way of avoiding law enforcement annoyances such as laws, due process, courts and citizen oversight. At this rate, by the time most people realize what is happening, we will be living in a fascist military state where big brother is watching. I guess Hunter Thompson was right :(

Although Android is not a true open source project, they normally release the source code with one major exception. A lot of the argument about that was because Google refused to release the 3.x Honeycomb source code. Google themselves said that the reason they never released it was that it was a 'hack' to get Android on tablets and was not up to their quality standards and they didn't want it spread any further than necessary. They promised that they would release 4.0, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, which would meld the phone and tablet code and they have done so, leading to the CyanogenMod 9 release.

As far as responses people give about PETA, few, if any, of them are serious. When people see a statement from someone they view as batshit crazy, they either feel the need to offset the crazy (with their own form of crazy) or just find it fun to mock them. Some people are feeling this desire for change and are looking for other answers and these type of robots might be one of them. Either way, we're in the beginning of a new era where there are far more people to do labor than there is need for labor. Our next great challenge will be how we address all the people who are jobless due to their labor not being needed anymore. Though there is a lot of talk of retraining for higher skilled jobs, it will not be long until robots can replace doctors, engineers, scientists, programmers and other high skilled jobs and not all of the people will be able to make that leap in the first place. Right now, things are not looking so good for us as a society.

  19. Comparing the two is disingenuous on Apple To Require Sandboxing For Mac App Store Apps · · Score: 1

A toaster is a single function device, a computer is not. To compare the two is disingenuous. Each time you add a function, you have to make a choice and the more functions you have, the more choices you have to make. The reason that Photoshop is so damn complicated is that it has thousands of functions that can fluctuate depending on the number of plugins you have. That makes thousands of choices available to the user and that makes it complicated. If you want simpler photo software, you use one with less functions and there are vendors that cater to that market. Now, could the interface be cleaned up and made more intuitive? Probably, but, since there are so many choices, you ask 10 users what would be the most intuitive, you will get 10 different answers that depend on what functions they use and what their personal preferences are. Trying to make software that complicated that all advanced users can live with is a monumental task that I don't envy them for. To also ask them to make the software accessible to casual (better term than idiot for parent posters) users is when you end up with software such as Final Cut Pro X and we know how that turned out.
