You are right and that probably is Googles idea. Make the phone work with all the Google services is a smart move. It might be useful to me as i have a Gmail account but not much use for businesses. That is why it will be a smart phone but not one competing with the existing smartphones.
M$ and Apple and Nokia and now Google are all going to be in the mobile phone business. It doesn't matter as are their target markets are all different. On the one hand you have the fashion/ordinary (Nokia) phones and on the other the business (M$) smart phones. Somewhere in the middle you have the iPhone. Unless Android is skinnable I can't see it appealing to the fashion brigade and unless it syncs with Exchange I can't see it going down well with businesses. It would have proprietry e-mail and a few search map apps.
Anyway a phone with the Google "look" about it would be so fugly that no one would buy it.
If nothing else, you could plug it into some sort of solar powered charger. That would reduce the need for coal powered electricity a bit, but probably not entirely.
We have multi processors and sh!t hot graphics and network play. Can't think of what else they could add. The Xbox 360 on sale in 3 years time won't look a bit like the one on sale now though. It will have a new set of outputs for whatever standards they have then as well as a much bigger hard drive and (possibly) a compulsory HD-DVD drive for bigger games. It hasn't even lasted 2 years without that black one coming out with a few extra features. Possibly like the PC, the future will be incremental rather than major leaps.
Isn't it really just for the hardcore modders out there who pimp their rigs up with fans and lights and watercooling, etc? They are the only ones who want this sort of control over a PCs internals.
I assume at some point the BBC website will become a paid for (by the license fee) service. In which case the demographic wil be reduced to UK users. I wonder what % of them are linux users?
I am just saying that the problem isn't really a lack of freedom in the US and more a case of sour grapes on the original posters behalf that his team lost the election.
While its a good idea Google are only doing it for one reason. All that time you spend on Facebook and MySpace is time that could be better spent looking at ads. If they come up with the facility for you to do your social stuff without leaving their site or gmail or whatever thats more money for them.
Correct me if i'm wrong but you can actually vote a new leader into power can't you? Whether or not it makes much difference is beside the point, you have the power. And how many/. accounts are now dormant as the US government has made the user 'disappear'? Not that many.
I would be curious to see how then radically improved JavaScript while at the same time kept it backward compatible with the old version. If it is that different then it might as well be another language. Dual code paths for browsers with the new version installed and those without.
M$ probably want something a bit like C# which they have some control over while the others want to keep the old name but put it on something a bit less clunky. Perhaps we could have the VBScript v Javascript battle all over again.

I remember that. That was fun. Why can't then do that for XBLA instead of all those lame arcade rewrites.

what apple users did for backups before version 10.5 of their operating system? I just drag my important files onto an external drive.
Cue Michael Jackson jokes.
If only 12% of the people who brought it made up 60% if the actual income then how is that good?
Fact!

there is such a thing as bad publicity.
Should be interesting as tablet PCs are usually used in industrial places, not an area Apple has touched in the past.
oops! thats gmail.

Tell that to M$. On the 360s system blade, the tab you use for clearing out your hard disk is called Memory.
Yes, I have vowed never to buy a sony gadget again after seeing the quality of my PS2, hi fi and DVD player. All rubbish.

Never has this been more apt.
It must be desperate.
I can't help thinking we are giving the game a bit more publicity than it really deserves.
WrinklyFaceBook? Shudder!
they are all on there chatting to and "grooming" all those young 30 year olds. We should inform the police.
