I'm sure we're all familiar with Dugg's dsniff package which contains the tools to do an SSL MITM attack... getting it to work for a client would, in my untested opinion, require remote penetration of the client computer and uploading of a root certificate which the attacker owns. Alternativly, buying a certificate from Verisign or some other online-certificate signer with the appropriate host name should be more than enough to get a certificate that is useful to the attacker.

Perhaps there are other aspects of HBA that I am ignoring (probably is considering how early it is in the land of Oz) but that should be enough... perhaps some ARP spoofing if you can get to a LAN or router hijacking if you can not.

    Anyone else have a suggestion/opinion?

And why exactly was an embassy *allowing* tor out... seems like sloppy security on their behalf.

The second a kid comes to school with a blue tooth enabled, viral infected phone is the second they crack down on this too.

It's not about teaching the kids to be sheeples, it is about making the sysadmin's life easier. I remember when I was in school and wreaking havoc on the network, a policy was put into place and I was suddenly in trouble. Most of the other kids stopped doing what they were doing because of this policy. I did not, and ended up being an un-official assistant to the sysadmin in my senior years... those who stopped have since moved on into other jobs (like beancounting!) yet here I am working as a SysAdmin.

The policy's purpose was to weed out the part time computer users and have a backup if the full time users (myself) got to 'dangerous'. Kids will always find ways around things, they were doing it years before computers were in schools and they will be doing it years after we all get in-skin's.

If you were watching at the time (and I mean looking for it) from the time I registered to the time we broke the 1,000,000 mark was rather large. Sometime around the end of this time /. started to get a lot of registrations happening and quickly - I believe /. has breached the 1,100,000 mark already? Less than 1/2 the time it took to get to the million) and the postings that I have come across for any UID that size have been of the sort of person that if I were to meet them I would expect to be around 13 to 15 years old (this is obviously by no means accurate, but is my personal view of the situation). There are exceptions, and I have seen users who were previously in your range of UID (~700000) whom have somehow lost control of their account registered in the million+ range, as well as someone who claims to have been surfing longer than myself and provides some very good comments.

So my regards for pointing that out, but I will leave the signature as is for the time being as it is more of a blanket rule than anything else. When I find an intelligent comment from ANY user I will mod it up, and if I feel the need to comment then I will do so.

I have two points that can be made on this: at my previous job the IT team were predominately male (myself included). We had two female members of a ~20 strong team, both of whom dealt with what we did and conformed to the majority. Now I am in a predominately female team and it is I who must conform to the majority. We never asked our 2 female members to change, and looking back I can see that even we changed somewhat to ensure a smooth interaction. Now that I am in this job I have not been asked to conform, but I know that if I don't it will cause tension and harm.

The biggest issue, as I see it, is that the female psyche (especially in an IT job) tends to think that maybe the team are biased against her and then end up in HR. I would imagine male [insert female industry here] have similar issues.

It is damned hard for me not to be an asshole, and I'm sure it is damned hard for the female to be an asshole, but neither is necessary if you just look and remove that small-penis syndrome[1] from your every action.
