In the spanish book "Caballo de Troya" (Trojan Horse), they "solved" this problem by lifting the time machine with rockets about 100 meters above the ground.
If you had the lucky of not having contact with Disk Knight, take a quick look at this.
I was plaged by this s*it some months ago. I have at home 4 computers, 2 digital cameras, 4 MP3 players, 5 pendrives, one wife and 3 teenagers. It was almost impossible to get rid of this damn piece of software. It would replicate itself by USB flash devices and install itself into the computers when the device was inserted, without asking first. And when we tried to uninstall it, it would just erase its icons and Program Files folder, but it would keep running and replicating itself. A real annoyance.
Disk Knight author's intention might be good, but I think I prefer to take care of my computers myself.
The article is about the UK. So, that's not "trucker", but "lorrer". Er, I mean, that might be "lorrier". Or "lorryer". Damn, now I wish I didn't sleep on English classes!
I was going to point that electronics are soldered with tin (at least I was told so, my actual cup of tea is software), but I found out that it melts at 231C, while lead melts at 327C. Of course these numbers can change depending on pressure, but they are way below the 450C they expect to meet in Venus.
Not sure if it's been brought up before but...
Yes, it's been brought before, a million times every single time OLPC was mentioned.
...shouldn't developing countries be concerned with having electricity in all of their cities and towns?
I've never been to Uruguay, although I live less than 1000 Km from it, but I have friends who have been there and based on what they say, I'm pretty sure there is electricity all over the country. And (who would say that?) they even have some nice stuff like cellphones and TV sets!
Somebody has already posted this one. I even printed it and put it on the wall by my desk at work! I changed to another desk since then, but it's still there.
You forgot to mention that if you yell at a public servant you will land in jail. It's a law. And they put it in signs everywhere they work. Depressing...
A person once asked me why wouldn't I try to become a public servant. I wanted to answer that I wanted to have a productive life, even if I worked more and got less money.
Seems less risky and cheaper! Music sucks nowadays anyway... and like we saw a few days ago, listening to radio can make you get sued (even 60% of time in radio being filled with ads).
Here in Brazil, Petrobras gasoline stations have the brand BR over a green and yellow pair of stripes. And then somebody had the idea of branding their gasoline stations 13R, using a font almost impossible to tell the differrence between BR and 13R. And of course this 13R stations sell very low quality fuel...
But you don't need to believe me, you can believe your own eyes. This is the 13R station and This is a real BR station.
I know how it is... when I lived in Spain, there were 3 supermarkets within 2 blocks from home. I used to go to them by foot, even a bicycle would be an overkill. Man, I miss those times!
I do my grocery shopping for my family of 5 by bike, but I live in bike-friendly Sweden.
It must also be "lower-gravity Sweden" or you do your grocery shopping at least 5 times a week. I also have a family of 5 and every week we fill the trunk of a hatchback Renault Clio. But I live in bike-unfriendly Brazil and I also live 18 km from the nearest decent supermarket.

(what a crappy book...)

Vayámonos a barrapunto.org, hermanos!
Hehehe... just kidding, slashdot is great! (Except that it rips off the inverted exclamation marks...)
I've been reading pretty much everything at -1 because I get mod points every wednesday.
What the heck is this? It seems that almost all articles in slashdot is getting this damn post! Is someone giving him/herself all that trouble?

Let's see... 24 songs with an average of 5 megabytes each song...
That's 24*5*1024*0.002 cents, which is 245.76 cents or US$2.46. What about that?

... as long as they don't make sleeping pills out of it and don't share the profits with me!

Have you fogotten that global warming will rise the level of the oceans?
And they played music on your AM radio - that's multitasking for you!
But that was before they DRMed the AM radio, then it would use all the calculator's capacity!
I also hope they are sending you a webcam when you buy a copy/license of the game. I don't have one and I see no reason to buy one!
I'm pretty sure in most countries they'd get a court order to stop infringing on brand recognition and property rights.
Brazil included in these "most countries". But as an old saying I just made goes, "laws are to keep the good men good".

Half a G will get you way further than Mars in a week. The greatest distance between Earth and Mars is 391 million Km.
You are taking in consideration that the ship wouldn't go from Earth to Mars in a straight line, right?
Oopsy Daisy!
