You can also get banned by refreshing the front page obsessively too. The RSS file probably gets hit more because it's automated by many newsfeed readers. I think what SHOULD be done is a line in each feed that sets the refresh rate for that channel automagically for you and specifies if the user can change it. This would solve it as you could not set it. Like it or not, Slashdot has finte bandwidth too. It's up to them to decided policy and not us. If you don't like it, you can download slashcode and try to do the same.

It's like someone trying to compare Passion of the Christ to the movie where some guy sadistically kills 500 people just to do it. It just doesn't work.

That said, there must be some people willing to play it...otherwise, why would they make it if people didn't buy the first one. We are (well, the majority of Slashdot) in the USA and if someone wants to play a sadistic video game, then they have every right to.

Kids don't kill people because they play video games. They kill people wen they have 7 shotguns under their bed and the parent does not inspect the room every once in a while. PARENTS everyone. You are supposed to raise your kids, not Gamecube, Playstation, the internet, the tv.....

Refreshing your feed every 10 minutes....even every 30 minutes is just too much. This is why they have the autoban set up this way. Also, when you hit this feed, you use part of the bandwidth they need for the regular web page. Again, thats why the autoban is setup. You have no idea what Slashdots net admins see. Even less then you did 3 years ago as GIS is pretty much all done and they used to say things like that in the show especially if alot of folks asked. I bet one month the RSS file was in the top percentage of files accessed and that had to be cut down. I know, it's not a large file, but if you grabe it 20 bazillion times a day, it ADDS UP! In closing, if you grab the feed more then once per two hours, that is way too much. Set it to refresh 4-5 times perday and you will be fair to Slashdot and NOT eat their bandwidth.

I don't think they will have a G5 Powerbook anytime soon. Maybe next year or the end of this year, but not this spring. The G5 is as much of a change as the move to PowerPC was way back when. It's different. When IBM was developing the G5, they did not have the same concern that Intel and AMD did....that concern was make it so it works with both 32 and 63 bit OS's and to make it so it did not cost ASUS and others a bunch of bucks to make a MB. IBM did not have to do this. Granted, much of the commmand set is the same, but there are obviously things physical wise (MORE then power consumption) that need to be implemented on a much smaller scale before the G5 can move to a Powerbook. Also, my G4 1GHz 12 inch power book runs rings around my big monster P4 @.53 GHz machien I also have. The 1 GHz G4 handles video just fine. I don't have alot of games because thats not what I bought a Powerbook for. If I wanted games, I'd have bought a PS2, XBox or GameCube. I bought my Powerbookas a SMALL, fast work platform taht can also edit videos. It EXCELS at this! I think what we will see soon is G5 iMac's. I see even professionals (a pastor at church works in a graphics arts shop and uses a 17 inch iMac) using iMacs because the look cool. Just saying wow 47 people died because of helicopters being shot by small arms, crashing, failing.....MEANS SQUAT unless you compare it to how many missions they ran and then returned from.

No argument thet helicopters in a crossfire are not a good thing. An attack helicopter sent in against a tank and other mechanized infantry is going to get shot to pieces with out a GREAT pilot. The Army is 100 percent correct to kill the Comanche as an attack helicopter. THe project SHOULD be resurrected in a new role. The helicopters the army and navy use are getting older as we speek and a new aircraft is needed. Comanche's research should live on in the troop transport and recon duties.

The Longbow in that list of 47 fatalities was only involded in about 5 of those. The units I see more of in that list are the older chinooks, super cobras and blackhawks. The apache longbow must be doign the job if the Comanche was cut.

The A-10 sure as heck is not totally dead either. There may not be any A-10's being made now, but the current airframes are supposed to be in use until 2028. 12,000 hours airtime on each airframe before retirement. That does not sound like they are dead to me, Sure, there may be some in the ANG, but the ANG is a reserve. The A-10's in the ANG can be called to active duty whenever it's deemed necessary. The A-10 ins an anomaly for teh Air Force. Now that things are changing, maybe the Air Force and Navy may either give up the Key West accords or listen to the Army commanders when they request A-10 support.

Did you read about Apache's just all of a sudden failing and crashing? Getting shot down by primative weaponry is not a matter of performance. It IS a matter of survivability. I had read somewhere (not about the Comanche) that the Navies F/A-18 can take a SAM hit in the wing, get back to base and be repaired and on the flight line on the next sortie. Something like this would probably not be possible with a helicopter as to take out a copter, all it takes is a well placed hit in the tail rotor or main rotor and your done.

I DID buy a travel kit (which came with a bag that I needed at the time as well as voltage convertors) and I use the battery that came with it. If you look, it's just made out of standard AA NiMH batteries. Nothing really proprietary about it other then the stupid clip they are held in. What I DID notice about this clip....it does seem to press a switch when it goes in. Not sure what that does exactly but I bet it changes the camera's circuit to work better with the Kodak battery. In any case, regular AA's do work. The AA's that work even better are the newer Lithium batteries like these e2 Lithiums. These are designed to last longer in digital cameras. Sure, they are not rechargable, but when you rechargable pack is out, they work.

If Kodak was really out to make money on their NiMH Pack for Easyshare cameras, then, how come I can't find them?? I have not been able to find this battery pack anywhere.
