I've been waiting for the next 3DLabs chip for a long time! The last experience with Permedia 2 = Rock *solid* drivers + 100% OpenGL compliance + low power consumption....
If Creative makes a card with them with OSS Linux drivers and *NO FAN* then I'm sold!
oh, this too;) but if you have a good enough debugger, strace is not necessary - and, you know, I'm not going to let a program just run if I don't know what it will do...stopping the proggie when you see something bad happening on strace's output is probably too late...
Reverse engineering binaries sounds difficult, but in fact it is just a fancy name for "analyze program with debugger", i.e. tracing, stepping, examining memory etc.
There are many tools for Unix and Windows, on unix we have nm, file, strings, gdb, perl, etc. (basically everything in the GNU binutils!!) On Windows the choice is a bit limited but they are also the best - softice, boundschecker, windbg, debug, regmon, filemon, IDA pro, w32dasm.
I learned reverse engineering in the Apple ][ era, but it is equally fun to learn it now!
Yup. I'm about to suggest VMWare / FreeMware...it should be the safest - however, stepping through the program with gdb is not such an unsafe idea as it seems.
You're correct. I bet MS knows this too - but do you think they're bringing it up to the court, and say, "Yeah, IE is tied to the Explorer shell, and our shell is just like KDE - it can be replaced by 3rd-party shells like LiteStep".
Interesting - in this case the crayfish is dead (no brain) but your friend managed to control the rest of its nervous system with electrodes? Wanna learn more about it - more details PLEASE!!
I agree - any math can be investigated deep enough to become serious enough for research purposes if you look at it hard enough.
However for algorithms like Quicksort, if we just want to use it, and prove that the algorithm works, its complexity, etc. The math can be "trivial" to a lot of people - that is, when we assume a lot of axioms and theorems and don't look at the proofs of them. (most of these assumptions are compatible if they're from the same system - and for most problems we can ignore Godel's (in)completeness)
If we insist on doing everything from scratch, even things like multiplication would require pretty "serious" math.:)
it says "serious" math. It depends on your definition of seriousness. For me Quicksort only uses trivial math. Nothing worth being called "serious" at all.
(OT) I'm doing almost identical stuffs as you do - I bet you have found that good ACE documentations is even harder to come by than good STL documentations....
I used to use patches from various 'rogue programmers', or 'rogue groups', until I learned how to do it myself.

It's LAW that we're talking about here - not what you think other people KNOW. Can you *prove* that people KNOW the price as a mistake? Or is it just a guess, however educated it is?
With your reasoning, I can also say the store KNOW the price is wrong, they just put it there anyway to lure potential buyers. The store gambles and lost. What's the difference?
People who stick lower price tags on products are criminals - but if the people *from the store* put the price there at the first place, it's a totally different story.
Talking about Karateka for the Apple II, I remember seeing a mod that sort of looks like a walk-thru of the game in form of a movie.
The fights in the movie are so funny you actually see enemies killed by the lowering gate and a lot of blood...the shoot-down-the-bird part is funny too. Anyone remember that?
Global warming accelerated by CPU heat as weather enthusiasts simulate climate with computer. Temperature for the next 2 years will rise by 2 degrees
I guess he wanted to say acceleration is independent of mass...

Should read "not-so-honorable" instead
Don't boycott, just PROTEST.
Set up some Mic**y M**se parody web pages that spread the message, and let the whole Internet mirror them, until it shows up first on Google.

Hehe, I have an article there too ;) Wow, never thought it'd be mirrored so widely. It's sad that www.fravia.org went away, though.
Fellow reversers, wanna join force cracking up this honeypot thing?

Good point. How do we make FSF a member of the BSA?
Yeah.

Serious competition to The GIMP, no?
Is there some law that makes you a criminal if you miseducate the public about laws?

Does your license allow me to resell some of the 92 degrees? Not enough space in my room to put all of them...

What if you work for a company and your day job requires you to read MS docs?
Not all OSS develepers are as lucky as those who program OSS software as a day job you know...
