  1. Difficult to answer on How Do You Decide Which Framework to Use? · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is almost as bad as asking "What programming language to use for a project" It all depends on the needs and experience of those involved. Sometimes it means rolling your own, other times it is better to get one that has been fully tested in the field for some time. Either way it is a silly question to ask.

  2. Here is the problem on Intel and HP Commit $10 billion to Boost Itanium · · Score: 4, Insightful

The chip was made to compete with "Big Iron" servers - the only problem is that it is marketed to the windows consumer market, and that is who looks at it when making purchasing decisions. AMD has really started to eat up this space, and if Intel does not start to turn this boat around fast they could really get hurt when 64bit CPUs are commonplace.

  3. Myth TV is the way to go for HTPC on The Year of the HTPC · · Score: 5, Insightful

Any discussion of home theater PCs needs to start with the open source solution Myth TV It works with open standards - unlike the Media PC from Microsoft that keeps you from doing just about anything with your recorded shows.

  4. No G4 laptops or desktops - that is my prediction on Macworld to Bring Updates to Laptop Lines? · · Score: 3, Interesting

The article suggests that they will introduce new G4 based models. I find this highly unlikely. They will need to push their new Intel Line. I suspect they will reveal new Intel Based laptops, and as always a surprise that rocks the world from Mr Jobs himself

  7. What did the student say? on Dental School Blogger Punishment Reduced · · Score: 5, Informative

If anyone is wondering what the student wrote that got the school so pissed off. Here it is: "[He is a] cockmaster of a teacher. I don't even gratify him by calling him a professor. He is one who teaches, as in should teach infants and children." The rest of his blog was about video games, drinking and other typical stuff. His blog is now currently offline. Ironically, Marquette University encourages students to post public comments about their professors, and these comments can be very negative.

  8. This makes total sense on HD-DVD Confirmed For Xbox 360 · · Score: 2, Insightful

This makes total sense. Many people are using their current box as a Windows Media extender. Personally I hate the Windows Media box since it locks you in, but this will feed right into the wants and desires of those users. And on the format war side of things. I think Microsoft is going to brute force the format they want, and this is just one of the ways they are going to try to do it.

  9. How can they keep doing this? on SCO Amends Novell Complaint · · Score: 5, Interesting

It is amazing to me that SCO can continue this long without totally running out of lawyer money. I really wonder if some third parties are funding them under the table.

Tell me this -> How are they making a profit today?

No. I really want to know.

It is amazing the number of companies I have done consultation for where the person that is responsible for the tapes has no idea how much information is on them. 17. Cracks are starting to show on Intel's New Slogan Clarified · · Score: 4, Insightful

Obviously they are still a powerhouse in processors, but still one must wonder how they could have lost the number 1 position to AMD when it comes to 64 bit processors. A company only makes moves like this when they feel they need to make a change.

Its new Office Live online software suite for small businesses, now in testing, will offer a domain name, Web site and e-mail accounts free. Yes, you'll see ads on the screen (unless you pay for the adless version) - but plenty of people won't mind viewing them in exchange for a free, professional-looking Web presence."
