This is no different from questioning whether any data source might be influenced by some factor extraneous to the phenomenon being studied.

Just as people's faith often colors their ideas about nature of the physical world (6K year-old earth, etc.), and blinds them to obvious contradictory evidence, so your notions about marriage might largely be informed by faith rather than experience. Where's the evidence for this? If someone were to post the opposite view with as little evidence to support it as yours contains (aside from anecdotes), it would get torn apart. Why should we be less critical of assertions that are more popular than those that are less so?

Stereotypes clearly can be useful. There was a study cited in The Economist recently in which people could with statistically significant accuracy predict an individual's likelihood of repaying a loan based on only the photo posted on Prosper.com (and this was of using pictures of people all of the same race).

Dividends are not tax deductible, whereas interest payments are. therefore it makes sense to raise some money from bond markets rather than selling equity. There's an article in the May 02 edition of The Economist that discusses corporate debt, and even mentions Microsoft. Apparently large companies with powerful founders are less likely to take on more debt than is justifiable for tax reasons, whereas companies in thrall to shareholders do so more often, as a means of leverage to increase profits.

racism, n 1: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races

That definition hardly supports your case. First of all, as far as you know, the OP has been teaching classes for 30 years, has developed this opinion of black culture over that time, and come to his conclusions with great reluctance. He may be wrong, but that is hardly the same thing as prejudging, and the correct response is to ask him why he believes what he does, not to wag one's finger.

Second of all, he did not state that blacks are intrinsically inferior, but that their culture is inferior. Such inferiority, if it were to exist, might well be the result of centuries of servitude and second-class citizenship, and thus not arise from any racial difference.

I do not think it is going to far to say that responses like yours, which opt for charges of racism over dialogue with someone who might well have provided you with reasons (however misguided) for his beliefs had you but asked, serve only to retard rational discussion of the topic.
