The StarCraft brand is among the strongest game brands in the world in terms of a PC game and certainly for RTS games. That recognition was forged with a great game, great support (BNET, patches) and most importantly, adaptation as one of, if not the first game to be played on a wide-spread competitive level. StarCraft has enjoyed a vast amount of press based on these accomplishments and almost all have been positive over the years.
That being said, Blizzards time to cash in on the StarCraft name has got to be running out. Clamoring about the release of a second installment has been already been plentiful online for years. Blizzard has yet to say anything except that they hope to revisit the StarCraft world in the future. With the announcement, hype, and eventual termination of StarCraft: Ghost, Blizzard has yet to realize that in the way of a official release.
Time could now against Blizzard to cash in on the StarCraft brand. For many of us who played the game, we are fans forever, but for groves of people that know what a zerg rush is, but have never played, these peoples memory of the brand has got to be nearing its end. The StarCraft name means less and less everyday that goes on and new gamers are being introduced to the market who know nothing of its legacy.
Now on the other hand, Blizzard carries a brand as a publisher that is second to none in the PC World so it may not matter at all. They seem to break there own sales records with each game they release, so who knows:) - I am certainly routing for them.
... that all the free online resources offer? Is it merely organized data? Is it the examples? I find all of that readily available for many web technologies and even more so for PHP and CSS. Numerous sites exist that cover everything in several ways too. Is this book simply a consolidation of information that is otherwise free via a google search?
After much being made of Google slipping from doing a few things very well to doing many things up to par, they seem to be focusing again on their existing network. No surprise that it their major investment that is receiving much of the focus.
I for one, am happy to see Google working to improve existing modules instead of rolling out a new beta module from Google Labs every few months.
Though you may find yourself dependent on your morning ritual. Often times the ritual is held over your head so your lady can perform various acts of blackmail in order to secure funds for shopping. To qualify for sex in the morning, you must have ended the previous day spooning in bed with your girl.
All in all, I have yet to find a better way to start my day. Hell I could think of few better ways to start anything at all.
Of course not! How insulting. I was calling you and yours a sheep if anything! I made it quite clear that what I was saying, after you called _me_ a sheep, was that I am as much as a sheep for not being convinced as you are for being convinced. Of course I am convinced, neither of us is/are. The sheep are the people, no matter their belief either way, believe what they do based on what other people have told them and not information or research they sought themselves. They do not form their own opinions and rather pass on the conclusions from others as their own - having no real idea if the position they hold is right or wrong.
I believe the climatologists and the scientific community as a whole are shepherds if anything. The sheep of these shepherds being all mankind and not just who believes in what scientist X believes.
None. It is not my area of expertise. I am not qualified to know definitively what is going on either way, based on the information available to me. Of course I am still going to discuss my current views with others to try to form a better understanding of the subject. My opinions are not written in stone and I would happy if I was presented evidence that caused me to reverse my opinion. It has happened before and I hope it happens again.
Also, your reply makes little sense as I never alluded that my opinions are better/worse than anyone else's. What exactly are you trying to get across to me? Please let me know, as I am now very interested. I ask you please email me instead though, as this is unnecessary at this point. My email is my username @gmail.
So you call me a sheep, when really, you do not know if I am one based on your own definition. You are just as guilty of being a sheep in this discussion as I. How am I to know you have not read up on anything that presents facts that disprove Global Warming? I have no idea.
With all fairness most people have not researched anything on their own with regard to Global Warming. They listen to what the media tells them and they connect the dots with various assumptions. How many people watched Gores film, formed an opinion on Global Warming, never bothered to research anything themselves, and then start beating the Global Warming drum? That number could be and probably is in the millions... now those are the sheep.
It is better to demand definitive proof rather than blindly agree with a documentary or what the media tells us. No?
Ok sorry then. Please continue to argue the non issue here. Did you misunderstand my point?
It was merely an reference to a common "saying" that almost everyone here has probably heard and understands. It is a common phrase that is tossed around to keep people open minded on a subject. Sorry for alluding to the most common and most likely to be understood reference for that point.
Yes, you are correct, the world, generally speaking, knew the world was not flat. Forgive my transgressions against your well documented facts.
That statement goes to the point of showing that the world was convinced of something even though it was ultimately wrong. Not saying that that is the case in this discussion at all, but it is beneficial to us all to challenge these issues continuously.
I did not claim there was not a trend, just doubts over its cause. The Earth is flat reference did not need to be dissected... did you really have any doubt in what I was trying to say?
Forcing my conclusions? No. I expressed my doubts.
As for discussion on the subject - While many in my position may reject new evidence or discussion on the subject, I certainly do not. I welcome any discussion on the subject as long as whomever I am speaking too is able to think critically on his own convictions on the matter.
I know this of course. So can nuclear winter, an asteroid, or a really bad hemorrhoid!
I know it is serious, but I also know it is coming and that I can survive because of that.
If you are trying to say that weather can kill us all, then you need to not watch an Inconvenient Truth, but rather a special or two on Nuclear Winter.
Or that Global Warming is some word the media pumped up to represent so much more than it really should.
To me, it seems evident that the Earth is indeed warming and the Arctic is melting. It also seems reasonable to think that we have done nothing but aide and hasten that process. At the same time, we are naive to think we have any control over the weather and that we can stop, or curve the effects of what has been set in motion, man made or not.
That being said, we will and should continue to look at the facts and figures as we move towards a green society. At the same time, we are not certain what is causing this heating, be it greenhouse gases, or just weather. Earth has seen numerous global weather changes/ice ages and it will see many more.
Global Warming or Global Weather Change? They are different in my eyes. Perhaps one aides/causes the other(probably), but nonetheless, in the end, it is weather.
They are spreading only a small and rather insignificant of gaming culture really. The music from the actual game being played is not spreading the gaming culture. Instead, they are spreading the music gamers are familiar with from the games they played. How many people are really going to have gained any real insight at all into gaming culture? None.
Gaming culture is not the game theme song as much as what pumps through the headphones as you frag and warm up for your tournament or next match at a LAN party. In between matches you drink some BAWLS and try to tap the skills you gained from your numerous sessions of gaming for more than 12 hours. After that match you might log on IRC to chat with your teammates or friends about said match.
Really LANs, Tournaments, and assorted TV shows/specials are spreading the gaming culture. Have some nerd take his girlfriend to a LAN for a couple hours and then ask her about what she learned from her visit... I bet you everything she learned at that game music concert is out the window and never coming back.
No beating around the bush here huh? Global Warming Exposes New Islands in the Arctic...
So I guess we are not harboring any room for doubt on Global Warming here on slashdot? At this point in the whole Global Warming debate, I am still inclined to call it weather. I mean really, the jury is still out on Global Warming for many and posting articles with headlines like this is irresponsible.
Should we not read the articles and edit the headlines to be accurate and not...
My bad, forgot it was/.

Yea no joke on this one. There are few instances when this is good idea and this is not one of them. The fact that the width attribute they have is invalid really is not helping either... everything lost its aspect ratio:(. Though, in their defense, they wrote the program so their downfalls in web design may be null and void:)
What else are we looking at and taking images of that is actually nothing like it is in real time. This also boggles my mind with the fact that much of what we see of our universe is actually just nothing like it currently is since the light takes soooo long to get to us. Perhaps I am wrong with that assumption... maybe somebody knows better than I and can clue me in:)
Wait for Vista to come out to get a bigger discount (if possible to get any). Right now though, if you get XP on a new machine then you are probably going to get the Vista upgrade, which is going to be worth it considering the likely cost of a new license.
Also, do not expect companies to start selling OS free computers anytime soon. They make a good profit off charging for the OS (built into price)
The mainstream market is just being introduced to practical robotics right now. For example, the Roomba has been around for a bit, but is still a rather new product to most people. Robotics in the home are both expensive to consumers and to manufacturer right now. As the small market(now) grows over the next year or two, companies will be able to attack a larger demographic for these products. As people become more tech savvy and are comfortable with the investment, demand will rise and give way to broader and faster innovation in the market.
Bill Gates talking about what may happen to the world if robotics hit critical mass is rather dumb right now though. The industry(robotics), in general, may be established in the way of power and ability for tasks in the workplace, but robotics in the home has barely got its collective feet wet.

You are correct. It was available via nbz/torrent first and then trickled onto the public trackers and then YouTube.

Hopefully 2007 ushers in a year in which remakes, sequels, and adaptations give way to original and creative stories and ways to tell them.
