Isn't this the same logic some rapist use? "Maybe she didn't deserve to be raped but she sure was asking for it!" I really don't think it works here very well either.
Your guess was far from the mark, my anger with corporations doesn't stop me from voting libertarian. My main problems generally involve corporations that exist merely to litigate, i.e. RIAA. Then again many of the problems involving corporations are directly due to government involvement. Although I am anti-corporation, that doesn't mean I want to tear down the companies that run them, I just wish they weren't so propped up by the government, and I wish the government wasn't so propped up by them. Understandable so as corporations generally have only profit on the mind and shouldn't have a hand in political affairs in the grand scheme of things.
I don't think lawsuits keep the world spinning, but they are a tool one wielded much more successfully by those with money than those without, and you are a fool if you don't think court cases don't create laws. So yes, lawsuits are very pertinent to me and anyone else who lives in the US.
Artificial person with the same legal rights. The case was an 1886 Supreme Court decision based on the 14th amendment, they never ruled on it but the precedent was set... "The Court does not wish to hear argument on the question whether the provision in the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution which forbids a state to deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws applies to these corporations. We are all of the opinion that it does." Even though it was presented as fact by the court reporter, still doesn't exclude that such statements were made.
You can sue an individual for more than they are worth, it happens all the time, most of the time though the person merely files for bankruptcy.
A huge amount of capital helps chiefly because it lets you convince people to agree with you and act on it. Is your position that I should be able to change laws without anyone else agreeing with my view? 'Cause that seems to be what you're implicitly suggesting and, for what it's worth, that sort of government is called a dictatorship.
Capital allows you to run period, partly because many lower level political jobs don't pay well, partly because it allows you to buy an education which increases your chances of winning elections, and lastly because it allows you a demeanor of success which people see as a winner. You CAN change laws without a majority of people agreeing with your view with capital, you run on a platform, then vote a certain way because a lobbyist told you to. Are you saying our current society is a dictatorship?
I would like to point out for example the problem between shareholders and a company CEO for publicly traded companies. The CEO is supposed to increase longterm profits for shareholders in order to drive up the price of the stock, but most often he is motivated by self-interest and would like to increase his salary substantially. Many companies try to solve this by using stock options but that only promotes a motivation for temporary increase in stock prices even if it screws the company in the long run. There was a bill in the house recently that allowed shareholders to make a non-binding vote on what they feel the head of the company they have stock in should make, salary wise. That bill was lobbied into extinction. Was that right, should one person be able to lobby out the opinion of hundreds of other individuals in order to get what they want. It almost seems like money and capital has replaced nobility as a caste system.
I disagree with you. I would not call our current society a dictatorship. I would call it a Corporatocracy. The government created the concept of the Corporation and allowed it to grow in power, and by regulation became enmeshed with the corporations. This has caused many of the problems we have currently. I wouldn't say everything the corporations do is wrong, in fact it seems there are many good facets. Unfortunately the current downside, is that there is a disparity between what the corporations want and what the people want.
As a prior beekeeper and honey aficionado myself, I strongly prefer Texas Wildflower Honey, a rich brown flavor. Clover honey has this green taste that I find out of place in my honey. On the other hand I've found several other local honeys that are great as well. Orange Honey, generally from the southeast, and Kansas Honey, not sure what by but it has a lighter mild flavor. I am interested in this Desert Honey you speak of, do you have a specific producer you prefer?
It never occurred to anybody that someone USING Google wouldn't want results from a competitors page. Sure when I search Microsoft I want the Microsoft page and I know I'm gonna get it. More often though, I am happier with what search results I get with Google, if I wasn't I would switch search engines. This feels like suing Mcdonalds for only serving Mcdonalds food, obviously a big anti-trust deal there. *insert rolling of eyes*
Honestly like every other president, Ron Paul would probably only get a quarter of what he promises done if he became president, we would either be up shit creek or doing pretty well depending upon what area he succeeds in. Also on top of that, most of the bills would never clear congress. If you honestly didn't like McCain and you don't like Obama you SHOULD have voted for Ron Paul. At least he would have vetoed bills that would curtail constitutional rights, and he likely wouldn't have been able to change much as president, which is fine by me.
No, because in that case we have competition. It isn't one company putting out multiple GPUs and CPUs we have two companies who put out CPUs and a few companies who put out GPUs. In most areas the ISP has a near monopoly.
Way to belittle what I consider accomplishments, we've wiped a number of times in ICC with the buff at 20%. We still haven't completely downed ICC, but weve gotten all the way to sindragosa with the buff where it is.
"Since then, all of us left. Scapegaming brought Blizzard a lot of business, but The Wrath of the Lich King ran them off. Only way I can tolerate WoW anymore is if I find an old TBC server now. Lasted till just before ICC was released on retail, but I just can't stand it anymore, it just isn't fun. Was fun back in the day raiding Kara, SSC, and the Eye just playing around, talking shit in Vent and having fun while half of them were wasted and still able to hold their own. Then 3.0 had to come and ruin it."
All my friends are leaving WoW. Cataclysm is running them off. Only way I can tolerate WoW anymore is if I don't pay attention to the Cataclysm stuff. It just isn't fun anymore. Was fun back in the day raiding Naxx, Ulduar, and ToC just playing around, talking shit in Vent and having fun while half of them were wasted still able to hold their own. Now this Cataclysm is gonna come along and ruin it.
Or maybe I'm just tired of playing WoW, yeah that could be it...
A bridge allows passage both ways, this allows the machine to read the cells, the other problem seems to be it applies to cells outside the brain, although I suppose an implant is the next step.
When you get an itch, thing about something else, when you feel like tossing and turning think about something you did during the day. Oh and get lots of excercise but not within 2 hours of when you want to sleep, if none of these things work. See a professional.
Not only does it download updates automatically, it also saves the fact that I bought the game and allows me to uninstall the game and reinstall it via download later. It is incredibly freeing, to not have to worry about a DVD, also on top of that, sometimes I don't want to have to go out and buy a game, sometimes I'm just sitting at my computer and feel the urge to play an RPG, so I go buy something off of steam download it in the time it takes to watch an episode of Family Guy or American Dad from Hulu, and then play it.
I actually bought the game the article is about because it was on sale for $5 before the Slashdot article came up. I personally choose not to pirate Indie games, because I know how tight their profit margins are, I heard excellent things about this game, and felt $5 was a good deal. After playing it I can say it was a good deal. In general I would not spend $20 on a game like this, maybe $10 but my budget is rather tight as a college student who works only part time and goes to school full time. $20 is sometimes more than I spend on food in a week.
Now as to pirating industry games, I have done it yes. The great games though, I end up shelling out the cash for after I've pirated it. Games like Oblivion, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, these games are worth 40-50 dollars, because of the enjoyment I get out of them and the quality of the product, on top of that I REALLY want them to make sequels because I had so much fun with the first game, so I show my support with my money after I know a game is good, not when I think it might be good or when I've heard it could be good.
Maybe its because people mistake me for a "[ Brutish, steroid-addled fuckface ]" but I have never had this problem. Generally when I'm walking somewhere people avoid me and go about their business. Honestly the biggest reason I responded to this post is because I support limited vigilantism. I don't exactly have a posse or anything but if I'm out walking around and I see a someone mugging someone else I'm going to step in.
Is there a parallel here between seeing a piece of art and recreating it in a new medium. That new piece is like the old piece but created with your flair and in your medium. Isn't this exactly the same, just with programming?
You must have been on a 56k modem with a 36 hour download time, or the servers were down, it took me all of 30 seconds. The digital download version, as was stated in multiple locations, was only usable after 10AM the day of the release. When I installed I had no problem adding Starcraft II to my Battle.net account which is what it really is, you don't really authenticate. You might as well be using Steam and complaining about Authentication. It makes sense they had a high number of calls and a 56 minute wait time in the time period immediately after a release. All of these things sound normal to me, sure its annoying and if I was unfortunate enough that the DRM kicked me in the butt I would complain too, but Blizzard has a history of 'doing the right thing' and if you get in contact with them are likely to get it worked out.
Firesheep is as legal as Limewire... Oh wait.
Isn't this the same logic some rapist use? "Maybe she didn't deserve to be raped but she sure was asking for it!" I really don't think it works here very well either.
I fail to understand how you would think I could disagree with you on any of the above points...

Right because you can understand my entire world view from one statement on Slashdot. Do me a favor and go troll someone else.

Also according to a judge's ruling a corporation has almost all the rights of an individual, oh AND they can't be sued for more than they are worth.

You must be someone with a huge amount of capital and/or someone who runs a large corporation if you feel you actually have recourse to change laws.
People still use CD-Rs? I just download all my audio data straight through amazon or whatever.
A. Doesn't the FBI have something better to do than ban children from entering the US?
B. I wonder if this will stir up the old hate machine?

Starcraft II is so awesome it can reveal whether your video card needs cleaning or is defective or not! Next up, can Starcraft II cure cancer?
The update file is not 7 GB. You are sadly misinformed.
