but on reading article.. it's more of the "good little consumer, you don't own anything, you just amuse yourself with what we let you have for a time" IP uber alles mentality.
And what the hell is "AMD intends to develop processors designed specifically to support Microsoft FlexGo technology." supposed to mean? Credit Availabilty Execute Protection that checks you are rich enough to continue enjoying your "rich media experience"?
No doubt this scheme will seem immediately cheaper than purchasing hardware and installing from a cdr with the latest ubuntu or whatever and of course it'll be all about "empowering global citizens by shrinking the digital divide!!" yay!!!
Goes to check the temperature of the frog.
yay for completely flawed business models

that provide nice cheap geek toys.
is there a website somewhere with a collection of such things, off the top of my head I can only think of that $10 digi cam that you took into a store to get your photos "developed" and also the i-opener.
Wasn't someone threatened with legal mess over the digicam thing? I wonder what transpires after playing with this video camera.
According to the cia world factbook that's "298,444,215 (July 2006 est.)"
Now, there's the cost of dvd cases, cover, inlay, dvd printing and mastering and I presume you'll want a covering letter from the director of nasa to say all about how great things are, though that could be part of the dvd inlay ( yeah! efficiency rocks!).
Now, even if it cost the completely unrealistic price of $1 per dvd (lets not forget distribution as well) that's a meagre sum of $298,444,215.
Pretty good going for a few minutes to post on slashdot, have you considered a career at NASA?
Yes, I'd noticed, I've also noticed some quality moderation to, "offtopic"? I'd prefer flamebait or troll please if it must be marked down, offtopic makes me think that some folks must have difficulty with (albeit weakly contrived) simple points, and I'd hate to think that of people moderating.
no doubt once perfected this technology can be used to make the undesirables (of the week) of society productive citizens by manipulating their cellular function to emit consumer goods, of course it won't do them any good but, look on the bright side, "CHEAP STUFF!!" and fewer undesirables polluting freedom, it's a win win.
in different states of the us? or Heaven forbid, other countries?!?!
No, we can't have that, it could destroy freedom and must be stopped.
and the children will be safer, now they won't get molested by strangers and terrorists, instead they can continue to enjoy the traditional abuse from a relative.
and via whatever metric of "person who talked to enough bad persons" you get a citizen score, the aim of the game is to get the folks with the highest citizen scores and give them the the prize of the game, the "Presumption of Anti" and if he's very lucky the "application of arbitrary sanction", there'll be enough of these prizes for almost(*) everyone.
You can also lower your score by "finding" secret items in other players closets, a spot gold farming could even be financially lucrative just like other rpgs.
Obviously people will want to have a citizen score as close to 0 as they can get, but to be honest, you don't want to have a score of 0 either, that wouldn't be wise, no citizen wants to be zero'ed.
*Remember, that some people are beyond reproach and are exempt from the game, after all they are bound by their own standards of honour and are beyond nefarious behaviour, they are way beyond mere nefarious behaviour.
I could have bought a dvd every week at a typical cost of £12.99 for the last year.
But I didn't, that means I have clearly stolen £675.48 from the movie industry. I could just as easily have not bought 2 movies every week, oh no, now it's over a thousand pounds worth of none sales that I'm responsible for.
Have I missed any mpaa logic?
Incidentally, I haven't downloaded any illegal mp3's or illegal movies either, but I have recently started downloading some indie made "please download and watch our production we made with no budget" things that might often lack polish but do provide at least some entertainment.
But hiding the technicalities and making it illegal to discover their weakpoints is the way manufacturers/**aa or whatever think they protect themselves.
Which is great but the whole thing about criminals is that they generally are more concerned with successfully committing crimes than legal issues surrounding their failure to successfully steal cars or even worse, download an mp3.
before this guy has a tragic accident or has a suprise heart attack? Or will it just be a good old traditional case of finding it difficult to get work due to unpopularity?

So you'll be able to conduct your field study from the comfort of your own bedroom/loft/basement/prison.
now?
makes it random automatic blogging? Not that I should really be concerned, nothing is secret now, unless you are an important member of society.
wet dream, or act of deliberate masturbation?
either way, when the complete truth is known, if it ever can be, we'll most likely all be dead, one way or another.

but compare playing a typical 3d game at the same resolution on a 14" monitor and then play it on a 21" or larger.
Despite the extra blockyness doesn't it feel like a better experience?
This is just taking that up a few levels.
I wonder if making a seamless round cave is the next level in this kind of visualisation/interaction system.
no... really....
it's a serious question, can anyone here say how serious? I'm quite sad to see sgi go aswell, sadly nothing is forever.
