Why can't a computer turn on and off in an instant just like a TV?
Well, for starters, a TV is basically the same as a computer monitor...which does start up in fewer seconds than I can count on my two hands.
But a TV is a specialized electronic; basically a computer designed for one job. And because it only needs to do one thing, it only has one task to do as a startup procedure and it can be optimized for that task.
A computer can be used to handle an infinite number of tasks. Considering that, I'd say 30 seconds is a pretty meager time to wait for a machine that will do anything you tell it to.
Yea we've actually got alotta dudes who're east indian and they ******* love it when we get guys who call up and think their talking to a guy in india.
Hey, Canada has it's own version of Indian tech support, too! We call them "French".
*duck*
(get you're mouse off of that "troll" option, it was a joke!)
Of course it's "treacherous", not "trusted". It's about taking control away from the owner, the user; and giving it to a remote entity. Hasn't it always been?
Clear evidence of this comes to light when you think closely about the proposed "Owner Override" feature that would effectively disable an onboard TPM chip...or maybe not, depending on whether or not we're being lied to about that.
First off, if this feature is really everything we're told it is -- that it really disables the TPM chip -- then what is the entire point of this? To have software, music and video vendors build their content around a supposedly "unbreakable" remote control scheme in their power...only to be broken by a built-in flick-of-a-switch feature?
And if we are being lied to about "owner override", then it's clear there is something they want to maintain hidden from us.
Either way, it won't work. Somewhere on the motherboard, between the keyboard and the hard drive, if you will, data must be unencrypted. You just can't keep something that is exclusively mine and in my possession, a secret from me!
With such mapping robots, it's possible to capture accurate data for over 10,000 square meters per day and to easily integrate it with existing software.
There's an ad for PC World or Currys or something where the salesguy explains to some students that having an Intel (bing-bong-bing-bong) dual core processor means it can do two things at once - like sending an email and downloading music!
Well, yeah, but that's just dual core. Now you can do four things at once! Imagine the possibilities!
Operating a wifi technology should include things like knowing how to activate/deactivate the techlology, and how to add/remove their own devices to the net. Asking them to know how to shield the net from unauthorized access is asking them to be able to serice the technology and that's absurd.
Mmm...yes, because following two or three detailed and clear steps in an instruction booklet is so much more difficult than becoming a certified mechanic.
He has been lost for about three years to date, but a few people are still maintaining hope. Police are continuing to investigate his kidnapping by Clueless Politicians and Thoughtless Laws. He was last seen in captivity in a few various places in the U.S., but has virtually vanished from North America. Some say that his attackers have taken him across the ocean to other continents, but sightings have still been becoming continually scarce.
If you know anything of his whereabouts, please spread the word to neighbors, friends and family. Citizens are asked to contact their political representitives if they have any information on Common Sense's kidnapping.
if they give out a linux disc they would be responsable for elinux tech support, which is not something i would want to do over the phone that's for sure.
Good point, can you imagine trying to answer, over the phone, a question like "Where's this shell that I'm supposed to bash?"
As long as the network you're connecting to is named "linksys", it's OK, right? Right??
Internal clocks will freeze! Database servers will become unusable! Power grids will grind to a halt! Time as we know it will cease!!
...what? Oh, that's 2037. Never mind, carry on.

How do you recompile a car??

Now it's at...yes, yes...no, still 3KB a second.

USB Dongle's FM recording functionality revoked from "security" firmware update. RIAA spokesperson not available for comment.

Wow! That video downloaded at 800KB/s...I must be early.
I usually put my phone on hands-free, crank up my speakers and pull up a soundboard from a particularly stupid movie, usually Napolean Dynamite.
Some of the lines in that one are perfect for keeping a flowing conversation, but I haven't yet had the guts to click anything on the right side...
How hard can it be to beat someone who's sold their souls to the recording industry?
Lost: Common Sense.

I believe it's called a "USB Mass Storage Device".
What do we need that for on Slashdot?
Can they start dancing and repeat "feel the energy" when you press a red button?
'Microsoft', 'Free' and 'Patent' in the same sentence? In the same title??
