Pharmaceutical companies and other industries that produce "health" ads keep this money flowing. I jump up and shout "Huzzah" everytime I see the restless leg commercial (partly because of my resltess legs but mostly because I'm a fiscal liberal!).

Who knows if you should have a drug? The Doctors. Don't be silly!
Most americans believe in all kinds of crazy^H^H^Heative new treatments. I for one bathe daily in silver colloid while gargling tumeric. I never drink, but I don't see anything wrong with guzzling down homeopathic "medicines" that are 99.99% sugar and ethanol.
Have you ever seen a drug commercial that explains nothing about what the drug is for or who should take it? (No, don't answer out loud, this is a rhetorical question.)
Put that curiosity to the test and go hound your physician for a prescription.
It's not just the drug companies that are tapped into this revenue.
Oh say, have you ever considered scooting around on your own geriatric scooter? Like the ad says "I never expected them to be so nice". When some neglected senior in their 60s-80s whose children refuse to call or visit sees that ad, gee, maybe its worth a few grand in SS checks to hear some nice metrosexual chat with them about their African violets. After all, in only six months they'll be able to afford to eat again.

  7. Re:let's evolve together on Did Humans Evolve? No, Say Americans · · Score: 1

Evolution is a religion. The majority of those that believe in it haven't the foggiest idea of how it even (supposedly) works. They have faith in evolution. They don't want their to be a God and so they promote a scientific theory that, for them, fills that desire. The fact that others are swayed to believe also is due to the zealotry of these fundamental evolutionists.
For example, try getting a grant for a research project that if successful will support evolution and people will be throwing money at you. Not so, if your scientific research could potentially damage the theory. You will be laugh at and scorned, it doesn't matter if your idea has merit or not. Evolution is being cared for and fed by a large group of people who have no interest in science, and will be, as long as it is being used to deny the existence of God.
Have you ever noticed that whenever people defend the theory of evolution in the media they always promote Natural Selection as Evolution. They are not the same. Anyone can observe natural selection, try sitting through a freshman college course. Where the promoters of evolution become big chumps and expect everyone else to, is when they use their THEORY as an explanation for the creation of life, this is totally different from Natural Selection. They WANT to believe. Then they can bash people who believe in God with it. This type of evagelizism is becoming very common in "sciences", look at environmentalism.
People haven't evolved as much as they think they have. They still like pissing down on their "inferiors" from their conveniently self proclaimed "superiority". Real scientists accept that the only real answer is "I don't know".

Ipods, videogames, must see TV and music television are the bread and circuses of the masses. Even the educated argue and natter about the most specious and meaningless statistics and topics. Every mad man has his own crusade and fanatics running about to do his bidding. The environmentalists, evolutionists, techonologists, sophists and epicureans all worshipping at the altar of their choice.
To sum up: A lot of people living in a fantasy of "how things should be" who are either completely oblivious to the REALITY around them or worse, think it is irrelevant.
Optimistically there are an enormous number of poverty stricken people on this planet who don't care about anything except where their next meal is coming from. They're probably pretty pissed off.
I wouldn't be so presumptious as to predict the future. But some night when we're all laughing at some stupid animated and immature TV show in our smug superiority we'll get to enjoy a new distraction as the future comes knocking on our doors with lead pipes or whatever was handy. This article at CSIFiles reminds me of what my criminal justice professors said. People watch CSI and then expect to be handled the same way when the police come to investigate.
My professor (an excop) said that he knows officers now who are being asked to check for prints and DNA and bring in all the fancy gadgetry (which they don't have) to try to solve the crime. When the police cannot comply with these requests (due to time, money, resources) the victims feel that the police are not taking the crime seriously and are resentful.
The issue is manpower and priority. Law enforcement does not have the time to look for the people who stole your bike and TV or urinated against your house when there are more serious crimes to be dealt with.
Even high priority crimes will only receive the resource that a particular department has. Very few locales have a zillion dollar crimelab.

No sir. There is a well documented connection between actual violent people and violence. Guns are inanimate objects they don't make you do violence (ever read Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms). I have never seen actual violence (aside from documentaries) from a gun and only seen it simulated on Hollywood and videogames. I live in America and in the area I live in gun ownership is very high. If what you say is true why am I so comfortable when so many of my neighbors own guns. Maybe the media and "thinktank" groups you are listening to need to be a bit more honest about their propag^h^h^h^h^h Studies. Good point. Unfortunatly there are just as many fanatical, illogical, emotional, anti-gun zealots as there are gun nuts. Guns have been around for a long time. Pre-1963 you could own almost any type of military firearm in the united states. It was in the 60's when the Weathermen, SLA, and other american terroist groups began bombing and killing americans that these restrictive gun laws came about. Lots of people had m-14s, garands, and other "Assault rifles". Their kids just weren't taking them to school and blowing people away. Personally I don't think gun laws do jack to crime. Criminals are opportunists and they don't let laws get in their way. One thing to think about here is why the media is reporting when some white, suburanite, teenage losers take guns to school and kill their classmates. Yet we see nothing on the news about the literal war going on in American inner cities where many more children are being killed, however most of these children are minorities. How about the fact that 10 (3000:30,000) times more children are killed in automobile accidents than firearm accidents. Anyway my 2 cents.
